Nor did I realize how often I'd end up going there as an adult. I first used the building to take a driver's ed class in high school, and later for a summer math course. That was just the beginning, however. I started taking college classes here in Fall 2009 to explore my interests, allowing me to earn credits without the high price tag of a 4 year school. Primarily I took science, art and general education courses that could be easily transferred. The classrooms are mostly the size of your typical high school room, some bigger than others. One was larger and auditorium style where I had astronomy. The chemistry and biology/anatomy labs were nice and on par with larger colleges, so keep that in mind if you plan on the science route. The art here was limited, I took pottery and loved it, but spent a few semesters down at the main Allegheny campus for photography, sculpture, painting, etc. Many professors are experienced and also teach at Pitt, Duquesne, RMU, etc so they aren't all blowoff courses as some kids entering naively assume. After deciding on biology, I transferred 60 credits to nearby La Roche University in 2014 to graduate in a few years with my bachelors! Now I'm back in 2023 currently to take a prerequisite course to apply for dental hygiene school (yes I change my mind a lot but that's another story). Currently the college has some nice renovations since I was last here. Solar panels cover the roof, there is a new digital entrance sign by the road, classrooms have red accent walls, and computers are updated. The main parking lot is in need of a good paving, and the landscaping is a bit overgrown, but overall not too shabby. I can't speak to the food or personal experiences some other reviewers had with staff, but again I'm guessing I've been here far more often over the years than many people who take a semester or two and leave. If you want to go to college, grad school, try to find a career path, or just want to take an interesting night class this remains the place to start! SUPPORT YOUR COMMUNITY COLLEGES! They provide access to education and training to so many and keep the region strong!

In less than 2 years' time, this school has gone through 5 different directors or assistant directors. Either corporate pushes these local administrators out (fires them), or the local administrators themselves choose to leave for a rival center (sometimes for the same pay, which is pretty telling). The policies have changed with each director. Some directors follow the corporate policies more loosely than others. This has created a problem of consistency for children, teachers, and parents. Many of the older, experienced teachers are no longer there. In fact, I can only think of 1 who has been there for more than 6 months. Last month (January 2015), 4 teachers or teacher assistants quit within a 3 week span. This causes me to wonder if employees are being treated well or compensated appropriately. To give an example, I have heard that one toddler classroom has been without a teacher for 2 months. They put a different assistant teacher in every day. A brand new person whom the kids don't know, and who doesn't know the kids. Then the next day it changes. I firmly believe that Doodlebugs is trying to hire someone, but they just can't get teachers who stay. Let me also say that every teacher has always been kind to my children, BUT, because turnover is outrageously high, the teachers or assistants are nearly always new, often inexperienced, no longer dynamic, and awfully young (18 or 19). At this point, Doodlebugs has exhausted its pool of qualified applicants and is now hiring anybody with clearances. On a positive note, the current director, Laura, is very good. If she stays, I feel that she will get the center back on track. But corporate must do their part to support Laura so that she has the tools she needs to build the center back up.

This was the worst experience I've ever had. The director was super unprofessional, she was rushing…read moreus to sign the contract. She expected us to pay for an entire month even though our child wouldn't be 6 weeks . I do not recommend this place . You can't trust her. she's very sneaky.

Other classes include ACLS, PALS, bloodborne-airborne pathogens, and pet emergency training. I used Start the Heart's website to search and register for a 3-hour in-person class. The owners, Brenda and Scott, emailed reminders about the date, time (to show up 15 minutes early, because people who arrive to class late must reschedule), location (in the back of the building), and requirements such as bringing a paper and pen. The first two classes were taught by Brenda and Scott, and my most recent class was taught by their employee Kelly. All three possessed a great amount of knowledge about CPR for adults, children, and infants; how to use automatic and manual AEDs; and how to perform abdominal thrusts and back slaps for people who are choking. The students watched videos, practiced on mannequins, and answered questions orally. At the end, we took a written test. If we passed, which I think that everyone did, then the American Heart Association emailed us our BLS cards. The cost for the entire class in 2025 was $75.

I took the class on April 28, 2024, and I was extremely satisfied with the educational experience that Brenda and Scott provided. The class was extremely well organized, informative, and thorough, including hands-on training. From the time I first called to schedule the class, Brenda put my mind at ease. And during the class, Brenda and Scott were patient and understanding while answering students' questions. They also took all the necessary precautions in cleaning and disinfecting all of the equipment that was being used. I was extremely pleased with this most wonderful course, and I think you will be, too. And as an added bonus, you receive your CPR & First Aid certification card on the same day before you leave. If you're looking for a great CPR/First Aid class, look no further! This one is by far the best in the greater Pittsburgh area IMHO.
