Incredible local family panadería! Our favorite weekend treats, but they also serve an amazing lunch. Strongly strongly recommend!

I discovered La Reynera Bakery after attending the FIFA World Cup Fan Festival in EaDo. I had parked at a nearby METRO Park & Ride garage and noticed this bakery on my drive out, so I decided to stop in and give it a try. The bakery has a small parking lot in front and specializes in Mexican breads and pastries. The employee who helped us was incredibly friendly, and we even chatted for a bit about the World Cup match that was being played that day. I was hoping to find buñuelos, but they didn't have any available. Instead, I tried a similar sugar-coated pastry for $1.50. It was a bit dry for my taste, but that's simply my personal preference. One tip: check the far left side of the counter for the day-old bakery section. They package two pastries together for just $1, making it a great value if you don't mind buying day-old baked goods. They also serve hot breakfast in the mornings, although it wasn't available during my afternoon visit. If you're in the East End area and craving authentic Mexican pastries, La Reynera Bakery is worth a stop. We stopped by this neighborhood Mexican bakery after visiting the FIFA Fan Fest because we were craving buñuelos. Unfortunately, we didn't see them on the display case. Since we don't speak Spanish, we picked a pastry that caught our eye. It cost just $1. We were expecting something crisp, but it turned out to have a soft, sugar-cookie-like texture with sugar sprinkled on top. It wasn't bad--just different from what we had anticipated. The bakery also offers tacos, other savory items, and a selection of drinks, but we weren't in the mood for a full meal during this visit. We usually like to get orejas (palmier-style pastries), but we skipped them this time. Great hole in the wall, hidden gem, or whatever you want to call it in this part of town. I only tried the Pan dulce which tasted great and it was so cheap! Either they didn't up charge prices due to inflation or they were way cheaper than before. I got the Marranitos (piggy) and pumpkin empanada for the family and myself. Piggy costed .75 and empanada costed $1. I hope this place stays alive because cause I notice the area being gentrified and this place is located between apartments. I went in on a Sunday morning! I was greeted as soon as I walked in. It gives very "mom and pop" vibes, a few seats on a counter inside, and picnic tables and chairs outside. I ordered 2 tacos, sausage egg and cheese and chicken fajita. Both were good but the chicken fajita was as better! They made both to order and it was pretty quick. They had a vast variety of pastries in the bakery area, next time I return I will try one! read more

The reviewer from 6 months ago said that the piggy price was 75 cents then. It is $1.50 now!! They tastes a bit different than what I'm used to, but they are ok. Their prices are not written down anywhere, so I wanted to make sure that they weren't charging me differently? The barbacoa tacos on homemade flour tortillas were good, but I've had much better in Corpus Christi & San Antonio. They use a lot of honey in their maranitos and huernos, which tends to oversweeten them, leaving an aftertaste in my mouth. read more

Small EADO Mexican Bakery and Tacos and more well worth a visit. Breakfast tacos got me hooked but the wonderful fragrance of cinnamon in baking goods drew me in when I lived in the neighborhood. Lunch tacos are also excellent and my favorites are the al pastor, lengua and beef fajitas. The bakery items are quite nice but the selection is fairly limited. Prices are reasonable and there are often day old pastries for a reduced price that are still tasty. Coffee is pretty disappointing but will do if you really need a cup. You can also buy large bags of fresh tortillas. Be aware that the kitchen closes earlier than the bakery and that they do run out of items particularly weekend only specials. read more

We love to start our morning with breakfast tacos - favorites are the chorizo and egg, potato and egg, and bacon, potato, and egg always with verde sauce! Their concha's are delicious. My rating may be a bit biased since I have been eating Flour Tortillas from this place since I was 5. You can eat them plain and are still amazing even though they no longer use pig fat for flavoring. They also added whole wheat tortillas. I had their desserts when I was little and they were really good. The best time to come is around 1:30-2:45pm because that is when the tortillas are hot off the machine and you can ask for a dozen or two fresh ones! You need to spend over $5 to beable to use your credit card. read more

Hidden gem! Serves authentic tacos and baked goodies. I love Tacos Tierra Caliente, but this may top that Homemade flour tortillas, and warm savory fillings! I got the picadillo, and it was delicious. Hearty ground beef with carrots, tastes kinda like a stew but obviously without the broth. Great option to try if you are tired of the usual Barbacoa or fajita meat tacos. Hidden gem is an understatement. Authentic flavorful simple Mexican food. The staff were so friendly being completely patient with me as I ordered in Spanish.( I'm still learning and make frequent mistakes). Are you familiar with the old Reese's peanut butter cup slogan: "Two great tastes that taste great together?" Well, this place puts two great tastes (a panaderia and a taqueria) nicely together. If you've been keeping up with my antics, you know that I have a publicly admitted addiction to baked goods. And, I've also developed a shameful attachment to breakfast tacos. Luckily, its only a weekend recreational thing. So, being a creature of efficiency, I was naturally intrigued with a place that promised to feed both addictions at once. Set in Eastwood (developed around the same time as the Montrose), this place was a former Allbritton's cafeteria (credit to Danielle S for this knowledge) and is cheerily painted with a yellow exterior. The customer area isn't very big and is designed for more of a "to go" crowd. Large fans move the air around but since there's a lot of heat generated, be warned that this place is good for t-shirt and shorts. Not the place for your fancy ball gowns and tails. The taqueria is open until 3 PM everyday while the bakery is open until 8 PM. There are four stools and a short counter if you want to eat in, which I did. I've tried out the huevos con chorizo and the huevos con papas on all of my visits (each $1.50). Lunch tacos featuring carne guisada and other staples run $1.75 each. They also offer tortas, gorditas, and plates, too. Meanwhile, the cases are laid out so that you cannot help to look at them coming or going. A wide array of cookies, muffins, and other baked goods beckon you. I've tried out the empanada de pina (60 cents) as well as the concha (85 cents). The former was fresh and full of bursting pineapple pleasure; the latter was okay yet forgettable. So, if your split personality cannot decide on whether to have a taco or have pastries, just split the difference and try this place out. OMG, am I ever grateful Chris' step-mom told me about this place; how is that we lived in EADO for a year and a half and never knew of this place?!!?!? Oh how I love that they are open until 8pm which is fantastic especially with this crazy Houston weather we have. Ya know what I mean? You wake up to 65-70 degree weather, but when you leave work, it has dropped drastically to 40 or below, lol. On those cold nights, I would think about hot cocoa or mexican hot chocolate and pan dulce (sweet bread). I would go and order 4-6 pumpkin empanadas which are Chris' favorite. This has to be the first and ONLY panaderia that actually stuffs their empanadas with filling where most skimp and you get mostly dough. The filling is creamy, sweet and perfectly spiced without being overpowering. I love their bolillos or small french bread loaves which are typically used for mexican tortas (aka sandwiches) or in my case for dipping in my hot chocolate. They have this great pastry called a Novia (or girlfriend lol) which is covered in sugar and has a nice little crispy edge and slightly resembles the pan de huevo (egg bread) or concha (shell); different people call that particular pastry by different names, but they are the ones that come in white, pink, yellow or brown sugar patterns on top. Their sugar cookies are crumbly and delicious. The churros are tasty. The marranitos (little pigs) are soft and tasty. OH yeah, and they also sell tortas, tacos, tamales, gorditas and champurrado (which is very delish and warms the soul). My only regret is that I didn't find them sooner because I would've been here ALOT for sure. If your order is $5.00, you may use your credit/debit card; otherwise, have cash handy. Typically I would always make sure to carry cash because I never seemed to reach that $5.00 mark regardless of how much I would stop and get!!! (not that I'm complaining). I walked half a mile to come to this store because of great reviews. I walked in at noon and received the hardest chocolate chip cookie i've ever had. You can tell they had the day or two old cookies first and the fresh ones in the back. If the cookies are turning pale and hard throw them away! Definitely don't serve them to customers. read more

Love this place! Can get a little tight in the parking lot but they are faster than many of the taco places on Navigation. I enjoy coming here for Breakfast tacos because they have COOKIES! I grew up going to this place recently it appears that they may have been bought out by someone else. They have change bakers and the pan dulce is now horrible. And the bolillos after you ate them feels like you ate a brink. Sad about it. Unfortunately I will not be going back unless they get a good baker or their recipes improve. They have definitely lost my parents business and my friends business. I could not believe it so I went and sadly they where correct. Tamales used to be very good . Not worth a single star. 14$ a dozen . Store bought fajita meat you can easily see in photo and added a nasty Poblano pepper inside . They were masa. Tacos are still okay but don't waste your money on their seasonal tamales . read more

Simplicity in form and function, with a throw-back to that South Texas panaderia feeling that you love. Now they do have tacos, and the folks do line up for that. HOWEVER, what brings me here is the Panaderia (bakery) aspect of the store and (disclaimer) I have never eaten the tacos. The array of pan dulce (sweet bread) available here is wondermous. They have a great selection, and if you have ever been the type to do Panaderia for breakfast (with coffee and/or milk), then you are in seventh heaven, as they have the full spectrum in cases with that look that screams "Yes, I am bad for you, amigo, but oh so delicious!" and you will not be disappointed. From traditional sugar cookies to the conchas, cuernos, empanadas, elotitos, ojos de buey and more, this is the definitive place in the area to pick up some delectable dulce that takes you to a special place in the foodie universe. My goodness taco gods, you really blessed this one. Still chewing but feel the need to expand on what 11 other people have begun--this place is fantastic. Because the ambiance and ordering style have previously been described, I'll jump right into the heart of it: la comida. The must-order list: Chorizo y papas y huevos--earthy and balanced Carne guisada--deep, rich, flavorful, tender Deshevrada--literally the exact same qualities as above I've never felt this way in my life, but salsa isn't even necessary. We also did some jamón y huevo and fajita de res, and while tasty, the first three will forever outshine them. Honestly, that was the best chorizo I've had in town. Was doing some work training down the street and asked a friend who grew up down the street if he knew of a place with great tacos. He mentioned these guys and said I would not be disappointed....I wasn't! Granted, the store-front doesn't give much of an appealing flavor to the eye when you first drive up, but as the saying goes - It's what's inside that counts! - Try not to bring too many people with you when you come though because all they've got is a small bar at the front of the store with four or five bar stools to help you sit for a while as you devour your lunch. Their main thing is sweet bread (pan dulce) and boy do they have a good selection to sweeten your palette. I believe they also sell fresh corn tortillas, but i could be wrong...they might also have REAL flour ones as well. Their taco business is literally to the right of you as you entire this place, and even though it doesn't look like much- you will not be disappointed with what they give you in return for your hard-earned money.
