If its your first time just know youll be there for a couple of hours. The only con I would say is they dont allow strollers inside the buildings (theres a parking area for them in the front if needed). So if you have a baby make sure to bring a baby carrier. I understand why they have that policy, but it just makes it a little hard for parents with small babies. P.S. make sure you say hi to their tortoises outside!

First off, I love the concept of free admission on Thursday. That sure brought people in to see what this place has to offer. We got tickets for the free admission night. It's great way to enjoy the place and then you can go to the village fest market right afterwards. There's parking in the covered parking structure across the street but there's a couple of parking lots all nearby. The entrance has a beautiful sculpture in front with the mountain as a backdrop. It was really busy last night with the free ticket and the heatwave. People wanted to be inside. I was surprised to see how big it was inside. Main part is three story with art and sculpture on all three lever. Each room showcase some beautiful artwork by artists from everywhere. Some unique pieces, amazing and beautiful sculpture, light fixtures and pieces that you wonder how they came up with that. I don't know how often pieces get replaced but I think some are permanently home here. Top floor was my favorite as it had some amazing sculptures and a nice collection of Andy Warhol pieces. Also they had a little game going on for kids when they checked in. I think anyone could have played but it was like a scavenger bingo hunt. Nice to have kids interacting with art. All the staff were very friendly and sweet. If you had any questions, they were there for you. Of course there's a gift shop inside. From the outside we noticed that they had a little eating area in the lower lever. I think it could be a cafe with the tables set up around a nice pool feature. The museum is beautiful and great for an afternoon out. Do try to take advantage when it's free admission on Thursday so you can check it out.

My boys loved reading about the different planes and all of the docents are So sweet. One helped us understand the map and where things are, and another docent talked with my boys about all the fast planes in the rotating exhibit area. We really liked him, he was very knowledgeable and patient. We did the tour of Miss Angela and our docent was so fun, he really liked talking to us but liked telling our kids about all the different jobs the pilots had on that plane. I wish this museum was closer because I think we would come more often. This museum is really fun and we got to watch some planes take off too. I am very happy we decided to stop by.

I believe it's $25 a person, but it's so worth it. To start, everyone working here is extremely kind and passionate about what they do. We were greeted with big smiles and directions telling us where we'd want to start off. The museum itself is amazing. There is so much history here and it's amazing to think about what these aircraft's were apart of prior to their retirement. I think you could easily spend a few hours here! We decided to visit Coachella Valley Museum yesterday after hoping to go for a while now…read more The grounds and exhibits are so great, only surpassed by the warm welcome by the docent volunteers. My husband, a stroke survivor walking with a wheeled walker, had no problem getting through to the entryway on the long paved path from the external gate on Miles Street. Inside, the exhibits are so interesting and the facility is bright and clean. We love Indio, so seeing the history of the city's populace enriched our understanding about life in early days. They have a beautiful shop which is now added to my list if cool places to obtain unique gift items. Parking is right across Miles on the corner, directly facing the big museum gate. A ramp connects the parking lot to the roadway. While the property is not a massive one, Coachella Valley Museum is a rich cultural walk through the olden days and you are still close to the downtown area and hidden foodie hangouts like Gabino's Creperie and the Friday Night Food Trucks or the sweet Farmers' Market.

The owner drives a bright yellow banana color Camaro that will be parked out front. Everything about this place spells bananas with lots of souvenirs to be had and other little knickknacks that the owner has collected over the years. He also serves several different ice cream's including, you guessed it, Banana Ice Cream, I have heard that the banana chocolate shakes are amazing but have as of yet not tried one myself. Next visit. He charges a $1.00 a head to come in and take pictures. Spend as much time as you're like there is plenty of little things to look at. All in all this isn't a bad little attraction to spend a little hour of your time. Enjoy.

The place was once a bar that belonged to the owner's family, until he turned it into the Banana Museum it is now. I wouldn't recommend traveling 30+ miles just to go to this place alone, but if that's what you are into, go for it! We visited while traveling back from Salvation Mountain & East Jesus. Please do call ahead! We got there at around 1:30pm and the place was still closed, but the owners happened to arrive as we were about to leave. So we got lucky!

It is actually a must visit for your Joshua Tree trip because this is quite a unique spot. There was a lot to see and take pictures of interesting sculptures. Installations were made out of scrapped materials turned into unbelievable arts you would never think of. I wish I had gone on a much cooler weather to actually walk around and take our time more to explore each piece. It's definitely worth it to visit the exhibit in Joshua Tree.

His workshop and living trailer are still there, surrounded by his artwork. The grounds are unfenced, and there is a dedicated parking area on both side of the dirt ride, towards the West part of the exhibit (coming from the East, important to keep going until you see a small parking area on the south part of the road...otherwise, you will be parking on private property.) You can get up close and personal, and touch whatever you like (since it's part of how the exhibit's age). But it can also be dangerous, with many pokey and sharp things, so need to watch out while wandering. Art is a subjective thing, and I would not have guessed that I would have enjoyed his exhibit as much as I did (especiallyl the exhibits involving bowling balls and/or toilets as the main materials). But as I continued to look at his pieces, kept wondering 'What was he thinking?....How did he envision this would look 20 years after creation, as the desert enveloped?', both from an overall macro level, but also from a detailed, day-to-day accomplishment perspective. The setting of the desert is as integral as the recycled material itself. And I couldn't help but think...'is this what a end-of-the-world scenario would look like?'. And as certain parts of the exhibit degrades, will the foundation fix it...or is that the natural progression of his art? There is a handout near the entrance that tells the fascinating story of the artist's life. It's well worth reading.

And for fans of Pee-wee's Big Adventure, this is a must-do stop -- it's the filming location where Andy tries to kick Pee-Wee's ass by the dinosaur. That alone makes it worth the visit. Fun, nostalgic, and great for a quick stop -- just go in with the right expectations and enjoy the weirdness.

Parking and walkways are shared between visitors and students alike. The museum is bright and airy, having a nice flow from room to room, through timeline to timeline. The displays are beautifully constructed with thorough yet engaging text to explain each finding or display. The exhibit rooms are large enough to give that gasp that comes with being in the presence of creatures of such size, but cozy enough to linger and read without being overwhelmed. There are hands-on activities for youths and those young at heart, a children's play and explore area, and a theater/presentation area. We really enjoyed the presentation that brought the area to "life" through a realistic, animated depiction. We sat on molded rocks, which was fun. When students came, they sat on the floor. It was cool and quiet. The bathrooms were clean and easily accessible. There's a small gift shop with some eye catching toys, jewelry, snacks, etc.
