    La Quinta bathroom Macon
    Will P.

While visiting Macon, GA for a friend's event it's proximity was a key in selecting La Quinta. Boy do I wish I had kept looking. I travel for a living and I'll say I've been in older hotels that need remodeling and touching up. Which this hotel is in desperate need. But even aging facilities are to be clean, this hotel was not. The overly stain mattress, to the peeling room fascia, most disgusting roaches in the bath room. Stay away of bring a can of black flag.

Not sure what it is, plus a gob of something white?

Pass up this hotel if cleanliness is important to you. I don't think doors or counters have ever been wiped down. The bathroom counter had stains on it as well as the tub. The doors had filthy dirty hand marks on them. The comforter has stains on it. The towels not clean or just stained?? Bleach, people, bleach. Luckily, we had 2 comforters in our car and used them sleeping bag style so as not to sleep on the sheets. This is the La Quinta on Riverview in Macon Georgia, stay away or at least ask to see your room before taking your stuff in. I only picked this place because of the Wyndham name attached, and, now I know that name is not what it used to represent..sad. Just stay away

Looks are deceiving. The lobby of this hotel is lovely. It was updated and modern. I should have know better, however, when we drove up and the grounds were weed-infested. Nevertheless, after a day's-long drive, I overlooked it. We were tired and had a reservation. When we arrived at our third floor "King Suite" it was smelly, dirty, and discouraging, to say the least. The hide-a-bed mattress was dirty as was the yellow-stained pillow. There was only a top sheet and no fitted sheet or blanket. At least the desk clerk, Anastasia, was able to get us clean pillows, a fitted sheet, and a blanket. I have never felt more compelled to leave a hotel, but wasn't willing to risk forfeiting the night's fee or the possibility of jumping from the frying pan into the fire at another hotel. I was beyond disappointed. The bathroom walls were splattered with a brown substance (see photos), as were the curtains. The shower was moldy. The floor was sticky. I customarily start my day with a shower, but was so uncomfortable with the bathroom's cleanliness, I passed. We couldn't get out of the room faster. At least we got a semi-good sleep. I would never stay here again and, frankly, this experience has soured me on the La Quinta brand overall. I could add to this review, but I think any reader would get the gist of my stay.

First I would like to start off with my compliments. Rachel was a wonderful representative to the hotel! She greeted us with such warmth and kindness. I enjoyed the clean smelling large rooms. The hot water and shower pressure was much appreciated. Now unfortunately my complaint. We were about to fall asleep when my husband noticed a bug crawling on him. After catching and doing a search it was unfortunately a bed bug. I went immediately down to the front desk to show Rachel the saved bug. She was apologetic (it was not her fault at all) comp'd our room and put us in a room near ours. We would have chosen a different hotel, but it was after 11pm and we had been driving for 10 hours. Our second room (421) had a mattress that needed to be replaced since it made the feeling of rolling down the hill. The walls are thin so we heard the dogs barking which caused a baby's crying.

When we pulled in we thought this was going to be a nice Laquinta. From outside and even the lobby looked very nice. That all changed once we headed towards our room. I'd give it negative stars if I could. We've stayed at Laquintas all over the US so I understand their standards can be quite different from hotel to hotel. This is by far the nastiest Laquinta we have stayed at. We got a pet friendly suite on the third floor and as soon as we entered the room you could smell dog pee. I truly don't think they even bothered to sweep the floors because there was what I believe was candy nerds on the floor. I was afraid of letting my cats even touch the floor but we were so exhausted from traveling and it was late so we didn't have time to find another place. We tried to touch as little as possible and put a sheet over the couch because we didn't even want to sit on it. There is layers of dust on everything. The sinks and bathtub barely drained because they were full of hair. Garbage behind the bedroom dresser and under the couch. We also smelled weed constantly during our stay. And to top it off they don't even offer a sack breakfast in the morning like other Laquintas are doing during covid. I'm glad I pack my own Lysol and Lysol wipes and if you plan on staying here, definitely bring some! And maybe nose plugs for the urine and weed smells.

This La Quinta was absolutely filthy! From the overflowing trash in every outside trash can, to the hallway carpets that hadn't been swept in weeks, to the dirty room, this place was a complete mess! We spent an hour cleaning just so we could unpack! We are most definitely done with LaQuinta...

What really set this experience apart, though, was the people. From the moment we checked in, we felt welcomed. Hevert, the night manager, along with the security team, went above and beyond--sharing insights about the city and the rich history behind the building. That level of engagement makes a difference. We also had brunch at Loom, and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent, and Lucas at the bar crafted cocktails like a true professional--balanced, intentional, and memorable. Our server, Jay, was equally impressive. His demeanor, attentiveness, and genuine warmth made the experience even better. He's the kind of person you remember after you leave.

Now the actual lot is not fenced or gated, and in the area was quite sketchy. The hotel itself is modified well, the onsite restaurants are chic and the hotel is in a great walking distance to restaurants. The hotel is dog friendly with a $150 fee, which is pretty steep considering there is no actual designated dog area or amenities for them. Not to mention the hotel cost on a random Wednesday night for a double queen was around $300. Most of the restaurants and shops closed around 5 pm. There was no access to vending machines or snacks within a close distance. If you wanted anything it would have to be purchased through the upstairs bar. I will say the staff were welcoming and polite, but upon checking in we were given a room key that already had guests in the room. My son was the first to open the door and I can't imagine if he had walked into a room of a person getting changed..... so big mistake there. The rooms are nicely updated, I love SMEG appliances but our mini fridge was loud when the motor kicked in. It's no 4 seasons but probably the classiest establishment in Macon, GA.

On the plus side, the staff has always been friendly and helpful. Rooms have been clean, and the beds comfortable. I appreciated that the A/C worked well, and the common areas like the restaurant were clean and up-to-date. Breakfast was fine -- they offer both a buffet and cooked-to-order options. It wasn't extraordinary, but it was good and did the job. I didn't use the pool, but it looked well-kept. My main complaint is with the bathrooms. On my last stay, it was clear that there was mold that had been painted over. I could actually smell the paint and see the mold starting to come through again. On top of that, the bathroom fan didn't work, which only makes the problem worse. While housekeeping does a good job with day-to-day cleanliness, the bathrooms really need a full renovation instead of temporary cover-ups. If those issues were addressed, this would be a solid and reliable hotel stay. Until then, I'd say it's "okay" but not up to the standard I expect from Hilton.

Concierge lounge was up and running. Loved the regular sized bottles of water. Staff there did a great job--cleaned tables and wiped them down. Location was convenient to a variety of places to eat near by. In general, I try to stay at places that don't charge for parking. You are already paying to stay there, so glad there was not any additional parking costs. Nice sized lot so it was awesome I didn't have to drive around and around looking for a spot to park. Did I say the staff was super nice? Well I am saying it again since it was refreshing to have folks who really seemed to do what they could to ensure you had a nice stay.. Room was clean. Towels were my favorite absorbent ones. Water pressure and temperature were on target. Nice long counter in the bathroom. Larger fridge in the room. Bed and sheets were comfy and inviting. Lots of outlets for charging your devices. Definitely more pluses than challenges!

We spoke with Megan, who told us the cancellation had been "released on their end" and specifically instructed us to contact Hotels.com for the refund because the hotel had already handled their side. Now Hotels.com is claiming the hotel NEVER canceled the reservation, and when we called the hotel back, we were told there are "no notes in the system" and apparently no record of the conversation at all. Trying to resolve this with Hotels.com and the hotel has been a nightmare. Multiple calls, being transferred around, language barriers making communication extremely difficult, endless "so sorry for bad experience" responses, yet absolutely NO actual help or accountability from either side. The hotel says it wasn't canceled, Hotels.com says the hotel never notified them, and meanwhile the customer gets stuck paying for a room they canceled TWO DAYS EARLY in person. Beyond the cancellation issue, the stay itself was not pleasant. The beds were hard as a rock and incredibly uncomfortable. The bathroom was so tiny you could practically touch the door while sitting on the toilet. You had to walk to another building entirely just to get breakfast. To top it off, the toilet clogged during our stay and nobody could even bring a plunger until the next morning. Overall this was an extremely frustrating experience from start to finish, with poor communication, poor customer service, and zero accountability. We absolutely would not stay here again and would strongly recommend others think twice before booking here, especially through Hotels.com.
