We were referred to another restaurant (Bistro or Café B??) that night, but apparently the restaurants alternate who's open and who's closed on which night. I only surmised that because the previous night, we had been referred to L'Insolite, which was open and very good. The following evening we walked over, but many of the restaurants open the night before were, in fact, closed. So, after perusing the various menu stands, we settled on La Poterne, and we were not disappointed!
The service was great and very attentive. The outdoor seating, in a covered porch area, was quite cozy, especially with the plastic sheeting down to protect from windy conditions, and also the standing portable heaters were great.
We had great steaks and the French fries, of course, were delightful! The cheese plate was very good, also, with a very nice offering.
We noticed that many of the restaurant diners were French, and had a feeling that most were locals, which always makes us feel better about our choice. If the local residents eat there and appear to enjoy themselves, what's to lose, right? That is what we found. Lovely groups with their puppy dogs leashed and cuddled under the tables, having a great time.
We were not rushed, we had a leisurely dinner, and a nice conversation later with diners at a nearby table. We were impressed! read more
