However, the building that we see today, although incorporating some older structures, dates essentially from the 18th century. It is named after the ancient Capitol, the temple of Jupiter. Its interior courtyard and the Salle des Illustres are well worth visiting. In the Donjon (former keep) is the modern tourist office.

Best pictures are from taken from Quai de Tounis or the opening Avenue de la Garonette, downstairs from Rue du Pont de Tounis. At night, the bridge is enlighted and the nicest colour is green, in my opinion. At night, later, especially on Thursdays, the area benefits from the Bar Les Filochards, showing live concerts and attracting lots of the local mixed youth. You can take your drink out in a plastic cup and drink it up on the Pont Neuf.

Jean de Bernuy, juif d'origine espagnole, avait eu des démêlés avec l'inquisition. Implanté à Toulouse, il devint un riche négociant dans le pastel, dont on tire le fameux bleu par la décoction ses feuilles. L'édifice est réalisé par l'architecte Louis Privat et possède les principales caractéristiques de l'architecture du début de la Renaissance française : une cour intérieure et des appartements desservis par un escalier en vis bâti dans une tour hexagonale. Seules la façade et la cour sont visibles, le reste est interdit d'accès au public.
