Super concept. Complete meals ready to take home and heat up. Or you can dine in. How convenient!…read moreThe owner, Moses, noticed us struggling with our Spanish and immediately suggested, "Is English better?" It was a relief because our Spanish is still limited and we had a lot of questions.
We have been passing by the place for about a year, always vowing to check it out, but we always seem to have a destination and kept putting it off. I've had a cold for several days and wasn't up to dining out until the late hours, so we checked Yelp, by map, and found Vinto Tinto, we we knew is just a couple of blocks from our house. Fortunately, it's open until 9:30 PM. There were several people dining in (counter seating) and others coming and going, taking their orders home. A good sign, we figured, and we were right.
We discovered that many of the entree items are packaged/sealed in plastic bags; stored in a refrigerator. All you have to do is heat them in water, cut open the bag and serve. We boiled some water, turn off the heat and let the bag sit for 7 minutes. Perfect! I noticed that he has wine available for dining in, but I'm not sure if it's available to take out. If not, who cares ... there are stores selling wine within a block or two no matter which direction you go.
In addition to the albondigas, we also ordered half of a tortilla espanola, a slice of mushroom quiche and a very tasty mix of green beans/carrots/pears. I was impressed that the vegetables were not overcooked and could nice stand to re-heating. Everything had a unique, complex flavors. The sauce that the albondigas were swimming in was divine; dee, rich flavor. We also bought some bondiola (pork shoulder) to have another evening. We're so happy to have found this in our neighborhood. We'll definitely be going back again!
