Both my partners parents called this place "the best restaurant they had in Veracruz"…read more Our favorite dish here, the one I highly recommend, is the "Camarones estancia" which had shrimp, cheese and peppers/onions in a creamy green sauce (pictured below). That dish, which was 240 pesos, is a solid 5 stars. We also ordered their signature dish, the "molcajete del Rey" which was an octopus, shrimp and garlic soup served in the restaurants traditional stone wear bowl made from volcanic rock for 378 pesos. It was good, but I definitely preferred the "camarones estancia" more. We also tried some tacos de pulpo, which were a little too spicy for me but my partner and his parents really enjoyed and I ordered the "ensalada berros" for 100 pesos which had peppery watercress greens, pine nuts, goat cheese with walnuts, little crunchy bits and cherry tomatoes. It was good but I had wished that it would have come with a salad dressing. I especially enjoyed the goat cheese balls in it and used some of the sauce from the "camarones estancia" to dress it since I really liked that sauce and it was not too spicy. The "liquado de papaya" was also good but it appeared to be mixed either with a thick yogurt drink or sweetened condensed milk which made it very rich and likely high in sugar and lactose so it is not for everyone. One thing I will say is that if you pay using a card make sure they are not overtipping you since they kept calculating a 50% tip on our bill and we kept having to repeatedly correct them for it - so just make sure you don't get scammed, particularly because the prices here are more expensive than many of the other restaurants in the area.

We all ordered different things from the menu, and all of us shared a hige platter of carne pastor. It was enough pastor for six people and we made our own tacos with the tortillas. In fact, I think it was more than 1 kilo. Another friend ordered camarones with coconut and it was remarkable! It made me want to order the same even though I am not a hige fan of seafood. You have to be careful to pick out all the fish bones. My partner also thought the head of the fish was good but I was too nervous to try it. It came with limes, refried beans, tortillas and rice. It was suppose to come with salad as well but they ran out so they gave us extra rice and beans. We didn't know the rice and beans were extra since there was no salad and we thought it was a replacement. They didn't charge us for the extra limes however and we took the extra tortillas with us. I liked the beans a lot more than the rice. Overall it came to 100 y 20 pesos or about 6 US dollars for a meal we both shared. Very worth it to try the local fish. Pro Tip: I recommend taking bug spray with you since I got a couple bug bites while I was there. They didn't have running water there so we had to use a bucket of water to wash our hands over the sink. There was no soap so you may want to bring your own. Also, the toilet was a bit gross so I recommend avoiding it if you can.
