Great food, place was recommended to us by a friend. Getting a reservation can be tricky during busy season so plan ahead.

La Gourmandine - French onion soup deconstructed!

They were even able to accommodate a table for 16 people for us with only 2 days notice! It is a very small restaurant so either come early or make a reservation.

The cheese comes on the side. We loved it! So we decide the make ressies to come back for dinner on Wednesday when the chalet staff was off. Our party of 6 shows up for our ressie and it turns out they screwed up or ressie and didn't have a table for us for two hours! To our rescue was Damièn who was the owners son. He recognized the staff mistake and did what he could to get us a ressie at another resto (since this was a tiny resto we would have literally had to wait two hours for the next free table) within 45 minutes. While he was making calls to other restos, he had his staff make sure we had glasses filled with good wine and gave us two amazing charcuterie plates filed to the brim with meats and cheese et al at the BAR. We would have stayed there but it was a bit cramped for 6 of us! He managed to get us a table at a nearby equally good resto so we left. But when we ce back a few days later for lunch was the the crew he remembered us and make sure we got round of drinks on the house once seated. We ended up ordering all the things we wanted to try and everything was magnifique! Thanks for your warm hospitality good food and amazing service! Til next ski season!

We managed to enjoy our last day here with an amazing 29 euro prix fix lunch! The quality of the food was super fresh. Lynch was in the more casual cafe area of this restaurant. Dinner is upstairs in the fancier dining room. But this is perfect because for lunch most people are rolling in casual either partly in ski gear or in jeans. The duck rillette that I had came in a jar and was so tasty esp with the perfect baguette. There was a decent amount to choose from in the lunch menu. We paired it with an excellent bottle of Beaujolais! Definitely want to come back for the tasting menu dinner the next time we're in Val D'Isere. This is the reason why we come back year after to year to ski in the French Alps.

La Folie Douce is the go-to place for Apres partying in the Alps. In my review of La Folie Douce at…read moreVal Thorens, I wrote that getting bottle service here would be refreshing for any American sick of sneaky upsells, snooty staff, and fees piled on top of fees. I found this to still be true at the Val D'Isere (Tignes) location, though this location is lackadaisical perhaps to a fault. If you are trying to book a VIP table (for which no minimum is listed but would generally be understood to be about 500 euro), you want to use the online form for "La Veranda." The main differences in setup here compared to VT are that the elevated VIP section here is split into an outside portion (4 tables) and an inside-ish portion (6 tables?). The outside portion doesn't have a direct line of sight to the DJ booth. Also, you can't order food here. We ordered burgers from the grill (which were delicious) and ate them before coming up. I would have loved the oysters (etc) that I enjoyed at VT instead. The one *positive* difference is that there is more space here and there is a stage for live performances, which is really cool to witness even if you're just skiing past. The bottle menu is not particularly expensive and there are no hidden fees. Service was great and the party went until 5pm. One thing I found weird here was that in the inner VIP area, there was a family of 20+ with children (not just under 18 but also much younger). It was surprising that the kids were allowed in to begin with, but they were also allowed to commingle with the dance floor and with the outer VIP area. Other weird thing was that we wanted to purchase one more bottle before last call. My friend got tricked into buying a magnum with the classic "we're all out of 750s." Though the staff was friendly in their parting, they didn't really provide any instructions as to getting down the mountain or anything and we found the bouncers to be rather cold when it came to the end of the day (big difference from Cloud 9 and others).
