I do love my independent movie theatres. I am even the kind of person that shamelessly goes to a…read moremovie by herself when it's in a nice indie theatre. Located in an renovated church, Utopia boasts a nice selection of european and international lower budget movies, as well as international blockbusters, (I recently saw The Revenant and The Hateful Bastards there), but always in their original version (which is a must to me). The house rules are a bit strict, but that is also expected in this kind of theatres: it's strictly forbidden to enter a projection after the start time (which got me to miss a movie once!) and you cannot bring anything to eat of drink in the room (which got me to gulp a bubble tea in 2 minutes another time). Mind you, the upside of this is that you really have a quiet and respectful audience. The movies also start on time, which has become more and more hard to find: you typically have just 5 minutes of trailers, not even ads. Lastly, if you fancy coming in a bit early or stay late for a bite or a drink, there is a very cute cafe and a terrasse, which is completely full in the summer - and I don't think you need to go to a movie at all to enjoy the cafe. I haven't tried that many other movie theatres in Bordeaux but I am pretty sure this one will remain one of my favourites :)

Constantly wearing your headphones and going to each section and then listening to what the display is about can get exhausting. My favorite part was the smell test which was a very smart idea. I spent most of my time where vs learning about the history of wine during ancient times. This bored me out. Screens that displayed area where most grapes came from all over the world was very interesting. Different types of grapes on display was fun to look at. The rooftop where you can get a complimentary glass of wine was cool. Open space overlooking the city of Bordeaux, wine with a view was my favorite part. It was good experience but what you pay to get in versus how much you will be interested in what you see, wasn't worth it for me from a price and time point of view.

All topics are covered: general history of wine, specific history of wine in Bordeaux, fermentation and bottling processes, grape varieties, modern trends, relationship with religion, and more. I thought the hours and price were reasonable for even a short visit to Bordeaux. You can spend very long here, so you will have to prioritize exhibits. The experience is individualized through your audio headset which is available in many languages. Capturing smells at a museum is difficult, but this museum has perfected their atomizers to help you identify notes in both red and white wine. Bordeaux is not a very tall city (built on swamp land) so the view from the museum allows you to see all. Getting to the museum is easy with the B street tram. A food hall is right next door with a variety of cuisines, and restaurants are available inside Cite du Vin. One of the braille city maps is outside the entrance.

You'll instantly feel at ease thanks to a great staff Moreover the theater is located in the very downtown of Bordeaux which is quite convenient to have dinner and enjoy your evening! Quite important to know that the tester has air conditioning. Sits are comfy too. The program isn't exhaustive but is renewed quite often w great comedies and other kind of plays.

Jardin Public is very centrally located; it also has a nice cafe with a decent bar…read more Despite it's obvious initial advantages, the primary purpose of visiting a venue like this is to enjoy it's various outdoor areas. Unfortunately, several large areas of the park are now completely inaccessible, and half a dozen other areas are in obvious need of maintenance and care. On the plus side, they seem to be building a new children's play area here, but simply based on the existing attractions I really can't recommend paying this park a visit.

Soothing, Restful, Invigorating…read more The Jardin Public was around the corner from where we stayed at Le Petit Hotel Labottiere (see my review, highly recommeneded historic monument). What a beautiful, serene, yet invigorating park this is with streams, vegetable gardens, flower beds, palms, rolling grasslands, and benches. Strolling through this oasis is a favorite pastime of locals and tourists alike. Adajacent are cafes, museums, and more. It's free and a great place to catch your breath and inhale the fragrance of nature.

This is a small museum in Bordeaux but it has quite a few interesting artifacts. Things like old…read morewine bottles, (many are full) a canoe built without any nails, lots of various wine making equipment, old business logs, old barrels, and on and on. It's worth a stop just to see the things that they have.

Enjoyed the wine tasting and history provided at this magical place. Would return in future.read more
