We first visited Honfleur, France, in 2012, during the quiet off-season when many businesses were…read moreclosed. Wandering the picturesque streets of this historic town, we discovered artwork displayed in a boutique window--and felt an immediate connection.
We fell in love with Philippe Géraud's whimsical, original perspective and the wonderful blend of traditional and contemporary pieces. Each work seemed to tell its own story, drawing us into questions about imagination, the worlds we don't know we're missing, and whether we can dream of something beyond our little bowls--all woven together with humor, emotion, and humanity.
We returned several times over those two days, peeking through the windows, eventually realizing we had made friends with two of the pieces. After returning home and reaching out to Philippe by email, we were touched by his kindness and professionalism as he carefully arranged international shipping. Those two works have held places of honor in our home ever since, bringing us immense joy.
Fourteen years later, we returned to Honfleur to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Naturally, we found ourselves drawn back to his shop, hoping to meet the visual storyteller behind the art. This time, our wish came true!
Philippe is every bit as magical as his work: charming, kind, attentive, and warm. Meeting him felt like making a new friend, and I finally understood why his art has always spoken to us so deeply.
Spending time with his work is like running into an old friend--one who brings a smile, a hearty laugh, an unexpected conversation, a warm embrace, or a beautifully bittersweet memory. That, to me, is Monsieur Géraud's magic. He doesn't merely capture your imagination; his art begins a conversation with your soul.
We now have two more pieces to add to our collection: one delightfully whimsical, the other capturing a sense of yearning I could never have articulated so beautifully myself. We look forward to many years of discovering new stories within them.
If you visit Honfleur, do yourself a favor and seek out Philippe Géraud's work. Take your time. Look closely. Let the stories unfold. Allow yourself to be surprised, amused, and moved. And if you have the opportunity, meet the artist himself--you may leave feeling you've made a friend.
His art is more than something beautiful to hang on a wall; it is something to live with, return to, and rediscover. Philippe Géraud creates art not simply to be seen, but to be felt. We recommend both his work and the experience of discovering it wholeheartedly. Fourteen years after our first encounter, returning felt like coming home to an old friend.
Bravo, Monsieur Géraud--and merci du fond du cœur!
