This small cafeteria is located inside of an Exxon gas station on 49th Street but don't let it's location deter you from grabbing a quick bite here. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner during week, the prices are hard to beat. Monday-Friday they are open from 5am to 9pm making it a great spot to grab a good early breakfast or mid afternoon cafesito. Steak and eggs with toast for only $4.50, coladas for $1.25 and completas for $5.99, how can you beat that?
There is counter space available to enjoy your meals as well as bigger tables. The service is always quick and friendly. Up until recently i hadn't tried anything other than their great coladas and café con leches but that all changed today and honestly, the boyfriend ans i are officially hooked on this place.
What We Tried:
- Burger: we weren't sure what to expect from a cafeteria in a gas station that offers burger and fries for $5.99 but my burger loving bf ordered it anyway. Much to our surprise, this burger was way bigger and tastier than we imagined. The 1/3 lb beef patty comes topped with bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes on a sesame bun. Although we expected the burger to be small, it was definitely large enough to share and satisfy two people. The fries were tasty and crispy and not overly greasy which i always appreciate. My boyfriend said he'll be ordering this all the time!
Mango Shake: you have the option of ordering juices blended with ice and water for $2.50 or made into creamy shakes combined with milk and ice for $2.99. We opted for a mango shake and it was everything i wanted and more. Not too sweet but perfectly creamy and thick.
Mashed Potato Bowl with fried chicken, cheese and corn: At only $4.50, i didnt have high hopes for this dish either but it wasnt going to break the bank either so why not? This thing was pretty freaking big... ha ha, that's what she said. It comes with a huge portion of potatoes as the base, a generous amount of corn and cheese and what seems to be homemade breaded chicken strips. It's like a bowl from KFC without all the additional sodium.
At one point or another we all need to stop and grab a bite to eat on the run. If you happen to be in the area and you need a quick bite, i would highly recommend this spot. For $14 we munched on a freshly made bacon cheeseburger with fries, a creamy mango shake and a huge bowl of chicken, potatoes, cheese and corn. Best part about it is that you can easily grab a can of two of soda from the gas station coolers for a dollar each if you want to make it a complete meal without having to walk more than a couple of steps. Definitely one of the best little cafeterias I've stumbled upon in a while. read more
