Fantastic local Europea with a ton of selections from wineries all over Spain, France and South America. Surprisingly small selection of US wineries (esp California - it's RIGHT there, right?).
Unfortunately - unlike most wine shops in the US, there is little guidance in selecting from unfamiliar wineries. There are no clippings from "Wine Spectator" touting the number of points or awards, and though there are plenty of staff on hand to "help" - they don't seem to have first hand knowledge of the wines, only the varietals. As in "Have you tried this wine from this winery?" they would say "Well I have had lots of rioja and it's a good variety." That doesn't really answer the question - right? They are helpful in pointing out things that are on sale and I did equally well there as at Surmesa on 60-150 peso bottles of wine (which is to say - there's some good cheap wine to be had).
They also have some Ritter chocolate (yum! Marzipan!), nuts, bread and other foods -- it's like a mini-BevMo but without so much guidance on the wine part. Definitely a good place to visit if you need a good bottle of wine. read more
