What an undiscovered gem! Unconquered citadel in the Franco Prussian war of 1870. The self guided tour with headphones starts in an unassuming building with mini theaters throughout. You head down into the various bays and rooms of the citadel where the story of the siege occurred projected in mini screens. It's very nicely paced and comfortable temperature down below grounds. It would be extremely difficult for handicapped visitors as there's no ramps, just deep stairs in places. But the whole tour (1hr) is informative and well done. Time flew! read more

Impressive fort built in 1700s but history of fortification goes back to 1200s. Saw action in 1793 and again in the Franco Prussian War in 1870. Majestic views. Entrance until 5PM on weekdays and 6PM but can walk around grounds for an hour after although cafe closes at 6. read more

This is one of the best audio tours I've ever been on. The headphones get activated by proximity to the area where they will share parts of the story when it was under siege. If you wonder off from one of the rooms it will turn off. They did a great job telling the story as you walked underground through the different rooms. It was sad and interesting to see how they lived while standing off with the Prussian forces. 10euros was all it costs. What looks to he the chapel inside has an excellent virtual reality view of the grounds in full restoration of the place. The snack shop has basic ice cream, pretzels and beer. The shop itself had some nice glass work and lots of fun stuff for kids. read more

When we came here it was closed for repairs so sadly we didn't get to see much on our stay. We did get to see some views from the first inner-level and the views of the small town below were really lovely. If you like touring old buildings and nature escapes then this place is a great little trip in a cute town. I would love to come back here to really experience the full space. read more
