With a minimal amount of staff, they were able to take our orders and get them cooked and delivered quickly and without any mistakes. One of our favorite Mexican restaurants. We stop in frequently when in Arthur. The food is good quality and some of their options are a bit different than the usual Mexican fare. I love that they have a tilapia option on their lunch menu. Very tasty and perfect size. Their chips and salsa are very good, as is their cheese dip and guacamole. Only had their margaritas a couple of times, but enjoyed those, as well. Service is always good, too. Great to have this place in Arthur. read more

I'm the lead drummer in The High School Heads, an ACDC tribute band, and we played our hearts out a gig (a bar mitzvah in nearby Atwood, Illinois), working up a man-sized appetite. Our gracious hosts fed us, of course, but I had a hankering for something a little spicier, and so when I saw La Cascada, I begged D'Arcy, our female bassist, to pull over. She did and the rest is history. They actually have more than your standard Mexican fare, but I can only speak to the tacos and burritos. I'm a big guy--6' 6", three bills, a former grammar school double-striper--and so I had three tacos and two burritos. The meat was a little salty but pretty dang good, and I'd have to rank this place with the best Mexican restaurants in Chicago (where I moved after being paroled). Actually, some might be surprised, but there are Mexican restaurants and taquerias all up and down the I-57 corridor in Illinois, and this is probably the best one. Prices are good, too, and the place is pleasant inside. Definitely worth going here. And as for me? Well, I'm still drumming. A drumming fool, some might say #lol But on a more serious note, I'm still trying to make a life for myself, to rebuild things, to find that elusive sound, to lead my team of drummers to new heights, to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. La Cascada down in Arthur, Illinois, has given me some of the needed (and delicious) calories to enact such a project. read more

I used to come here frequently with my friends before football games/marching band performances and while you would think that Mexican food was bad for performing, it sat surprisingly well. The portions were always good, the service was great, and the general vibes were immaculate. I am literally always craving their food, it's that good. food wasn't bad but they put a 20% tip on the bill and said I had to pay it, which I didn't but they argued with me and told me not to come back because I wouldn't give that much of a tip to someone who filled up one of my parties drinks once. I asked them to get a manager and they said none were available asked them to call a manager still told none are available. Check your bill people, tips are not mandatory. read more

I called ahead to see if they had indoor seating or carryout, (during pandemic) and she said both. Not so! They only had carryout or outside seating. I don't do carryout and not a fan of al fresco dining. Decided to eat on the patio with the bugs, otherwise the only other choice was fast food. Employees were rude and there was a huge language barrier! The salsa was watered down and flavorless. The service was ok but not the speediest. I ordered the beef taco salad and when it arrived I was shocked at how small the portion was, including the taco bowl! Way too expensive for what you get! The last time I will ever step food in this place. I called my order in at 6:52pm and was told it would be 15-20 minutes. I ordered the Steak Jalisco and the Chile Colorado. I didn't end up leaving this place with both meal until 8:25pm. I got the Chile Colorado after a 20 minute wait and preceded to wait for my other order. Meanwhile the Chile Colorado meal got cold. I watched many people being served at tables and leave in all this time. Several times other people who waited for their food complained about the wait time and I would tell them my call in time which was earlier than anyone that came through the doors for a to-go order. I was told that I would get a gift card for the wait, but the lady at the front gave me the bag and only supplied an apology. Getting the food home finally. The Chile Colorado was dry and cold. And the Steak Jalisco didn't taste fully cooked. read more

I'm originally from Arthur and I didn't have high hopes when I heard there was a Mexican restaurant in town. We went on a Friday night though and the food was surprisingly good. It's, apparently, the place to be since I ran into three former classmates while eating there. It looks like your typical Mexican restaurant and the prices were good. The next time we travel back to Arthur we'll probably stop in for a bite! read more

La Cascada is located in a newer building near lots of other businesses. We chose it due to a long wait at Yoder's Kitchen. The food was decent and the portion sizes are what you'd expect at almost any Mexican restaurant. The only think keeping it from being at least a 4 star was the slow service. I am shocked and EXTREMELY disappointed. This might be TLDR for most, but I urge you to read if you want to eat here. I want to start this out by saying that my family and I have eaten here 20+ times prior to this experience I am reviewing about. We loved the food. Now on to my experience I just had tonight. My family decided to order carry out because we just simply did not want to leave the house tonight. I ordered a Burrito Grande with no Pico and no Lettuce. The burrito typically comes with Queso on top, Sour cream inside, Pico and lettuce inside. I also ordered my 4 year old son 2 soft shelled tacos with just meat and cheese. My fiance got something as well but hers was made fine. I got home to realize they gave us 2 hard shell tacos and they had the works on them. I then opened my burrito and realized that there was no Sour Cream on it, I was not mad, I returned the food to the restaurant, these things happen and at this point I wasn't aggravated. My first trip in there to correct the order, the clerk at the front was very nice and asked what was wrong with my food. I explained to her and she apologized for the mistake that I would have my correct order right up. I was happy with the way she handled it. My food then came back up to the front for me to pick up and take home. The manager and another male staff member was up there as well. I glanced in the bag to see that they gave me back my ripped open burrito and put a container of Sour Cream on the side with it. Now I am getting annoyed, the male asked if there was anything wrong with it and I said, "Is there not supposed to be sour cream on it?" he replied, "There is sour cream on it, just not all over it, you didn't check all of it." I responded with, "Oh okay, if that's the case I am sorry I did not realize that there was sour cream on it." They brought my son's replacement tacos up and I took my food home. Once I get home I open up my burrito COMPLETELY this time and realize that it DOES NOT have any sour cream on it what so ever. Now I am looking at this situation like, "They were EXTREMELY busy and probably didn't want to fool with making me a new one because they assumed I wouldn't care enough to come back a third time." At this point I am extremely angry. Not to mention my son's tacos had lettuce on them still but were corrected to soft shell. We pulled the lettuce off and he ate them. No big deal. I return to the restaurant for the third time to request a new burrito and at the front desk was the manager/part owner Maria Ramerez. Who was at the register previously when I came the second time. I had the burrito completely ripped open to show that there was indeed no Sour Cream on it anywhere and that my complaints and suspicions previously were valid. She then proceeded to ask me how I wanted my new burrito with an EXTREME attitude as if she didn't have time for my ****. I then said, "You know what, I want my money back, and I want you to answer a few questions for me." She proceeded to get my money out of the register but did not respond to the fact that I wanted to ask her questions. I proceeded to ask her these questions despite the lack of response. I asked her in a calm non-expletive manor, "Why do you guys feel that it is right to deny that an order was made improperly, and then bring me out the same burrito with the bite taken out of it instead of just making me a fresh new burrito they way I asked for it in the first place." She handed me my money completely ignored me and walked away without a response. Needless to say, I was shocked and quite POd at this point. The front desk clerk returned after this conversation or lack there of, I had with the manager. She asked me what was wrong because she could see that I was upset (I want to reiterate that I held my composure and did not even so much as raise my voice during this entire thing.) I explained to the nice lady what had just happened with her manager and she apologized. The manager handled herself so poorly, in fact her front desk employee was more help than her. We ate there on Feb. 27, a family member became ill later that evening, not the first time this has happened in the last year after eating at this restaurant. Some of the server`s are not very friendly. Also a "Thank You or even Gracias come back again", would be nice after paying the bill. Very disappointed! read more

Driving through Arthur on a Sunday evening, noting that all the Amish places are closed, La Cascada stood out with cars in front and people outside. OK, the decor is homemade and a bit run-down, but some of the best Mexican food can be obtained in places like that. About half the diners were speaking Spanish, with a mix of Amish and other locals as well. The menu is long, with a whole page of specialties. I had Pollo Acapulco: 2 thin chicken breasts, about 6 shrimp, a nice cheese sauce, grilled veggies, and the usual rice/beans. The cheese sauce was not just molten Chihuahua cheese, but had better texture and spicing and went well with the meat/veggies. My wife had a burrito and enchilada with a sweet sauce, and veggies, lettuce, tomato on top. The waiter was friendly. Diners were enjoying the summer evening outside after dinner. Not bad for a small town in Amish country on a Sunday. read more
