Bottom-line up front: pretty good food for the area, clean, but not Amazing... 3.5 out of 5. What you'd expect from a traditional, "Tex-Mex" with a bit more on the "Mex." which made the food a better place in our opinion. The place has a great location with tons of parking and what looks to be a great patio for when it gets warmer. Everyone was nice, but we had a slight language barrier with our waitress that was a small hurdle on getting info on our orders this being our first time. The queso was okay tasting but over-priced. I've paid more for queso but it was better. I've paid less for queso and it was about the same. We'll come back but I don't think it will be our "go-to" for family dinners. read more

If I could give no stars, I would. I don't typically go to La Carreta, our primary choice was super busy, so my daughter and I decided to give it a try. The food was fair. not a lot of choices. The service was very poor. We got our chips immediately but then we waited for a good 7 minutes before we were ever attended. I began to wonder as server plus server passed us by looking on, who was our server. It happened to be one that kept passing us by and even made eye contact with me and was taking drink orders from people that came in after me. She was never pleasant. She made me feel like we were an inconvenience. I tipped her a decent amount despite her lack of customer service. I have to say it's in the environment because if they don't know you, it's not imperative to treat someone with good quality customer service. Side note. It's a Mexican restaurant, you think you'd hear Mexican music. Next time I will wait at our preferred local Mexican restaurant. read more

During our week stay in the Lansing Holiday Inn, my family and I ate at this restaurant almost every night! Maybe the Mexican food helped us be less homesick for California - or maybe we just liked to eat at a restaurant that was in the same parking lot as our hotel! Either way, this restaurant kept us coming back, and we were not disappointed. Their chips and salsa is amazing, and I would sometimes eat so much of it before my meal that I could barely eat my meal. The food was great, and we quickly learned that the portions were huge, so we could even split meals. They have giant blended margaritas that come in a variety of flavors, and my family would order them almost every night! The restaurant itself was very inviting and had plenty of space for the amount of people that it brought in every night. They also had a good amount of seating on the outdoor patio, which was very nice on those warm Kansas evenings. The staff was very friendly, and even seemed to know us by the end of our week in Lansing. I'm sad that I cannot go back more, but if I come back for a visit, I will definitely be back. read more

La Carreta gets 5 stars on the sheer fact that it is the only palatable place in the Lansing/Leavenworth area. More than palatable, though, it is DELICIOUS. We eat here almost weekly, and we never had a bad meal. The service is outstanding. The owner really knows how to run a business and keep his customers happy. It is always clean, we are always seated right away, and the service is really, really fast. The salsa is so fresh and tasty, but don't fill up on it, because your entrees will be even tastier. Two pieces of advice: 1. Listen to the server when he tells you that the plate is hot. It is approximately as hot as the fiery wisps of gas coming from the sun, and it will melt your flesh off. 2. Order the arrachera tacos on corn tortillas. You will not be disappointed, and you will definitely not leave hungry. read more

My favorite Mexican in the Leavenworth area. Huge portions so be warned you will have left overs. Lunch portions are more reasonable, but heavy for a lunch. The drinks are great. Great selection of beers and the margaritas are the best I have had since moving here. Warning they do not skimp on the tequila so pace yourself. I almost always get the same thing, but I have tried a few different things. I think the seafood enchiladas are a pass. I just don't like imitation crab and rubbery shrimp. That being said the rest of their enchiladas are outstanding. The spinach and cheese are fantastic and the plain old cheese is as good or better than mine and my family use to own a Mexican joint so I can make an enchilada. the fried tacos are awesome and so is the chips and salsa. The guacamole is just the way I like it!! Only complaint is I wish they had a better Al La Carte menu. Since the portions are so large I would eat there more often if I could just get a few things. Good food, good prices. BUT, the service is (and has always been) very poor! We have eaten at this restaurant several times. Hoping each time that management would work out the issues with poor serving staff. Went to eat here last night at 7pm. We had braced ourselves for a lengthy wait, and hopeful for better service due to weekend crowds. We actually were seated within minutes of arriving (They weren't actually that busy) Here's where our "2 star" rating comes into play. And to be fair, the food has always been very good! We waited for 10minutes for our drinks. We waited another 10minutes to place our order. The food was brought out in a timely manner. Our server did not ask once how our food was, nor wether we needed anything. We actually asked another server if we could get refills on our drinks. Then at the end of our dinner, we had to stop our server for a to-go container, and our check (taking into account that he passed by us SEVERAL times, and that 2 other tables that were seated AFTER us and had already left). 20minutes after asking for our check, I asked to talk to the manager about their consistently poor service..only to find out that the person serving us WAS THE MANAGER! Delicious. One of my three favorite Mexican restaurants all time, and Mexican food is my favorite. I love their chili rellenos which taste even better after they have been frozen and reheated. We have yet to find a Mexican restaurant nearby that we love. We had high hopes for this place, but it hasn't been consistent on the quality. A couple of months ago we went there. I ordered the chimichanga. While it did not resemble anything frozen, it wasn't anything to rave about either. The inside was filler - beans and rice. The sauce was odd... It tasted like chicken bouillon. I would definitely recommend against that plate to everyone. Other than that, the service is decent, the price is cheapish, and the chips and salsa are good. I would recommend La Fonda in KC, MO or a long haul to Carlos O'Kelly's in Lawrence before coming here though. read more

This restaurant is gross- another disappointment in Mexican food. The service was terrible- I understand that they were short staffed but we felt like we couldn't even ask for napkins or silverware. The waitress wasn't friendly at all but we decided to show her grace anyways. We had to wait a long time just to even order. All of the staff members were not wearing masks over their noses and would pull the masks down when they entered the kitchen. I just wish they would follow proper covid protocols for their customers. Service was very good and the food was delicious. The lunch menu served from 11am to 3pm is given a great portions and the service was quick. I recommend trying the homemade guacamole paired with some pacifico. I would of given a 5 star, however when I asked for double rice instead of beans.. I still got beans. Overall though. . Not bad. Took my children for a night out. My son wasn't very hungry so he shared with me. I ordered a combo platter so there was plenty of food to share. The portions are huge. I did not care for the beef in the burrito. It was overly seasoned and the texture was grainy. We liked the salsa and the rice was good. Service was terrible though. We sat forever before anyone came to take our drink order. Soda got spilled on our table and we had it all cleaned up before the waiter ever came back around. Holy (expletive)! This is the best Mexican restaurant I've ever had! And I just came from El Paso/Juarez. The chips were warm and crispy. The salsa was mild but full of flavor. I asked for spicier salsa and I got it! My fajitas came out sizzlin. The beans were great and the rice wasn't dried out. I stole a slice of chicken quesadilla from my kid and thought it delicious as well. A couple of friends from El Paso, that relocated to Lansing, told us about this place. Their comment was "Authentic !". I have not being to Mexico yet, but the food here is flavorful, without being overwhelming. The portions are big, but not NFL sized, which is good. The chips and salsa alone are reason to visit!
