This place has the most DELICIOUS fajitas I've ever had!! I'm from California, and I've had my share of fajitas from fancy Mexican restaurants to hole in the wall places.. this little place wins by a landslide!! The service was great, the restaurant was nice and clean, the atmosphere was very pleasant and the decor was very TASTEFUL.. Interesting experience. We walked into a very empty restaurant; on a Thursday to boot. A woman walked by us and never said anything to us. We proceeded to the bar, as we always do, to sit and order a beverage and browse the menu. Within minutes, we were advised by the woman who watched us walk in (fairly rudely at first but tried to recover saying "since it isn't busy it's okay"), that we had to wait to be seated. We were a bit baffled. We travel the country. 33 states, and I've never not been able to walk to a bar and self seat. 33 states, we've never felt "reprimanded" for sitting at the bar. For a town that appears to be hurting all around on their restaurants, you would think they'd be more welcoming. I can't rate the food or anything else, but I wasn't sticking around if that was a sign of the service we'd experience. read more

Food was fast, great quality, and our server Maria was fantastic. I love that the menu had plenty of choices for our picky eaters but wasn't so overwhelming like most Mexican restaurants. Even our 4 and 8 year olds were happy with the food, which is a feat. I had shrimp fajitas and they had tons of shrimp. read more

Salsa: pretty good, it's SALSA! Not thick chunky pico-isque jarred junk. Although there was a spice in there that was unusual (swear it was basil) Chips: again pretty darn good, served warm (which is a plus in my book) although never received our second basket Atmosphere: low key with homage to Mexico with cute, yet not tacky, items like sombreros and other metal decor. Beans & Salsa: Okay, newsflash I DO judge a Mexican restaurant by their beans and salsa. My philosophy is is you take extra care to make something as mundane as the side dishes then attention to flavoring all other menu items is there too. So verdict is: beans really good, spot on on the salt and viscosity; rice--not a huge fan, the rice had random veggies throughout (Jax pulled out a pea, a Lima bean, and a green bean in his but I only found a few peas in mine) the rice was more of a pilaf flavor and never been a huge fan of that. Service: no bueno, ordered items and never received them (but she wrote them down cuz we had to tell them we aren't paying for them)asked for more chips....never received those either. Server didn't know the menu very well. Never saw her once she dropped the food....we had to just assume we had to get up and pay somewhere. Overall food: I ordered the special, fajita chimichanga and it was really really good. The queso blanco sauce over the chimi is a nice surprise (i hate red sauce!!). Good food, overall good experience (except service, but don't forsee her remaining in the hospitality industry with her personality) . We'll definitely come back soon! Bonus draw: is a Mexican restaurant, that serves Mexican food and not a hodgepodge of cuisine (yes, this is an issue I've found) which makes me feel they are a GOOD at what they do and aim to do that WELL. It's 3 stars because of the service, but overall food was really good ESPECIALLY for a South Dakota restaurant. read more

I have been to a lot of Mexican food establishments and this by far is the best I have had for this part of the country. Love tamales and they use the beef and not hamburger. So when it's says "beef" you will get real beef. Next time when I'm in town I will definitely bring friends and family here! The service was good not excellent but good. read more

Best Mexican around. Literally around! The salsa and chips are one of the best I have had and I have been to many Mexican places around the US. The service is ok. We got one server who I don't believe understands English well. We ask for certain things and then it doesn't come and we ask again. We ordered dessert but he gave us our check instead. The Jalisco Burrito is advertised as a 'BURRITO', not a burrita! I finished it in 2 bites. Seriously the size of a street taco-at best. Because the flour tortilla was so TINY, they served everything else in a bowl next to it (the cheese, pick de Gallo, & guacamole); no beans or rice included in this meal. Not very tasty, and certainly not worth close to $10. read more

Ate here on December 20, 2016. I ordered a bean burrito with no cheese and no sour cream. It came covered in cheese and I asked them to take it back. It came back and I ate it. That night I was throwing up all night and had diarrhea for about 3 days. Food poisoning. They must have done something horrible to my food. read more

This was our first visit to La Cabana since we are new to the area. We are a family of 6 so I feel like the price was reasonable for 4 adult and 2 kid entrees. The food was tasty! The queso was the best we've had. We actually ordered a second bowl of queso which is something we have never done before. I ordered the pollo rancheros and the chicken was excellently seasoned. The waitress demonstrated great patience with us when we weren't sure what to order and did not rush us or act like we were bothering her. She was quick with refills and checked on us often. We will most likely eat here again :) read more

In town for a week or so and had tried just about every other place to eat in town, we stopped into this place on our last night, and oh so much regret that we hadn't stopped in sooner! It was far and away the best place in town to eat, in flavor, service, and value all three. Firstly, the service was great, very nice and attentive to keeping drinks filled and chip baskets full. This seems to be the only place in town that isn't widely understaffed. Secondly, the complimentary chips and salsa were plentiful, warm, and very good! Thirdly, the food. Several of our group tried the nightly special (beef or chicken fajita chimichanga) and said it was tasty, others had the special dinner off the menu (a burrito, chile relleno, taco, enchilada, and rice and beans), or the chicken fajitas, and all were delicious! And lastly, the prices were quite affordable for the portion sizes and good quality. 7 of us ate a hearty dinner with some leftovers for under 100 dollars. We travel around the country a lot and we think this restaurant is among the top 2 Mexican restaurants we have eaten at. Excellent flavor, interesting menu, and reasonable price make it worth stopping if you're in the area or even for a day trip. Authentic. Far superior to chain restaurants! read more
