I am so excited about this new discovery! Serving up fresh soups, quiches, and local farinata,…read moreSoup's On is a great place to get a quick quality meal. Lucca is known for its food, and this little eatery doesn't disappoint. The wait staff is friendly and helpful, and the spot itself is cute and tastefully decorated. There is both indoor and outdoor seating looking out on the bustling piazza. I got spinach quiche served with couscous which were delicious. There is a display where all the foods they've made that day are on display so you can choose what looks best. The staff is good about explaining each dish and helping you make your choice. Will definitely be coming back on my next stop in Lucca.

We really enjoyed our Buddha Bowl as well as the soup of the day. It was served with AMAZING warmed bread slices. The prices were a tad higher than expected. We spent about 30 euro between two people (without getting any wine or additional sides - just a bottle of water.) It was worth the money to introduce a little flavor variety in a town otherwise offering a lot of classic Italian fare. The portion sizes were also very generous. I will be going back on the next trip to Lucca! Thanks to our waitress for being so helpful and patient with our language barrier and explaining the menu to us in English.

We were visiting the beautiful peaceful town of Riomaggiore Italy today. We stopped in this little…read morecafe unaware of what to expect because as travelers we have no WiFi. Seeing they had an open table we sat down checked out the menu to my surprise they listed an American hamburger. I inquired what is all on the burger? The waitress described a bacon cheeseburger deluxe, with tomato, lettuce, mayonnaise, on a seeded bun with a pickle and French fries. I said sounds good. After eating Italian noodles and pizza for the last three weeks a good old fashioned Deluxe bacon cheese Burger is what I needed. I kid you not. I don't remember having a burger this good in the last 60 years! OMGGGG it was that GOOD! I told the waitress that when someone ask tell them it's a bacon cheeseburger burger deluxe. Every American will know exactly what it is. I even told the owner that she needs to change the description on the menu to read. Juicy Bacon Cheeseburger Deluxe American style with Tomato, lettuce mayonnaise pickle on seeded buy with fry's! Delicious. Bon appétit You will enjoy it

This place is seriously overrated... and maybe it's because there is a scarcity of good restaurants…read morein Riomaggiore, but there is usually a line to get a table, but I can tell you it is very likely not worth the wait (we waited around 30 min). Beef ravioli (€15) - Really really disappointing. It clearly tasted just like frozen ravioli with sauce likely from a can. In fact, I think most frozen ravioli I've gotten from grocery stores tastes better than this. What a shame. Steak (€36 for 260g) - It seemed like steak was this place's specialty, so I was hopefully this could redeem it from the ravioli... but I was wrong. For €36, I would have expected a high quality steak, but instead I got a very mediocre, kinda chewy steak that was of no higher quality than the cuts that I can buy from the grocery store. The owner is American (maybe with Italian heritage), but I still expected better from a place like this with the popularity and reviews that I saw. The interior of the restaurant is cozy without many tables (hence the line to get in). Bottom line is I think you are better off finding a different place to eat in Cinque Terre / Riomaggiore with actual good quality authentic Italian food.

Dinner in a cave in Riomaggiore? Sure, why not?!…read more La Grotta is a really cool restaurant that is well lit to showcase all the historic pictures they have on the wall and the windows they have to expose the cave that exists and once was? before they built the restaurant. I'm not too sure on the history of the place but it's a very old, interesting, and casual place to have dinner. Service is as to be expected in Italy. Have patience and enjoy the ambiance as well as savor the food. We arrived late (well after the dinner crowd). The restaurant was pretty empty except for a few tables finishing up. For dinner, we went straight to the main dishes. We had wanted to start with minestrone soup but the kitchen was out. We ordered a grilled fish and the Cartocchio di spaghetti "alla Grotta" in bianco al tocco di crostacei. It would be an understatement to say they were outstanding. The fish, which was simply grilled, and flavored with nothing more than a sprig of rosemary and a lemon wedge was perfection. The pasta was wrapped in foil and lit on fire in front of your eyes. I've only seen that done once before in the Italian section of the Bronx. That's when I realized that this was how it was supposed to be done and how it is done in the "old country". When dessert rolled around, I was excited to get the cake I spied in the dessert case before we sat down for dinner. Since the desserts did not have labels on them in the glass case, we did our best to guess and got the honey walnut cake. We guessed wrong but were nonetheless happy with our selection. There are great restaurants in all of Cinque Terre. This is one that I will recommend to anyone who is stopping by Riomaggiore for a bite.

It was just ok, probably my least favorite of my meals in Italy. I did taste my wife's shrimp risotto and that was pretty tasty though so I might have liked it a little better if I got that.
