The hair salon / barbershop opened recently across the National Bank in Antwerp and what a place it is! Steven Richard and Sigi Roels, the hair masterminds behind Sir Richard, have created an environment that comes close to the perfect hair salon, if you ask me. No annoying spots while you have your hair washed, but a ceiling with playful white bulbs. Every material and detail is making you feel at ease. My favourite? The magnificent cowhide chairs. Though it is one salon, Sir Richard has two doors: one for men, one for women. The decoration and use of colours divides the space further optically in a playful yet stylish way. One thing I was particularly excited about, was the traditional shave. It was everything I hoped for. For over half an hour I got pampered by skilled hands, with lotions, massages, brushed, warm towels and sharp blades. I felt reborn. You'd expect that for this kind of salon you have to make reservations. Yet Steven Richard reassured me that you can just hop by if you suddenly want to get rid of your extra hair. That's the thing about Sir Richard: though everything is classy and luxurious, it has the feeling of a warm local business. Finding a hairdresser that fully understands you is hard and Sir Richard has definitely managed to get into my very selective list.

If you can grow it, they can cut it, style it, and make it look great. II dabble with this salon intermittently when I cannot make the trek to the Amsterdam area to maintain my, ahem, sew-in weaves. Recently, I've weaned myself off of weaves and graduated into Keratin straightening for my naturally unruly kinks. I was concerned, as this was my first chemical process on my hair in over four years. The owner gave me a consultation on my options, duration of the treatment, and estimated cost for the length and thickness of my hair. When I walked out of the salon, my hair looked glorious and possessed a body and sheen that I'd never witnessed on my humble strands. As of today, my keratin treatment was administered over 4 weeks ago and my hair is still manageable. No more angry kinks, only soft curls when I choose to wear my hair in its unstraightened state. Brands such as Global Keratin and Mizani are available for purchase and home care/maintenance. The best multicultural salon in Southern Netherlands No parking lot. Paul Mitchell products are the best in hair treatments and products for all hair. If you are willing to invest in yourself, then I would firmly suggest taking the Paul Mitchell route. Ladies and Gentlemen once you go Paul Mitchell there is no going back to any other hair products, especially cheap ones! When you buy Paul Mitchell hair products online or at one of their salons, then you are guaranteed that it's the real deal. Be aware of counterfeit vs real Paul Mitchell products, you will run across those type of products from time to time at a few Salons. Counterfeit hair products means the product is watered down, missing ingredients or extra ingredients. I also notice some unethical hair salons in Amsterdam double the price for the hair products. So it's probably best to just stick with the real Paul Mitchell salons. FYI: Tip for men in Europe, please stop buying Head and Shoulders and check out Tea Tree Shampoo, you will so love it! And even though it's expensive for Antwerp, it is really cheap for someone like me. Only bad thing I would say is that even though the hairdresser realised I wasn't speaking Flemish, they were joking around in flemish and looking at my face making me feel uncomfortable and also irritated the back of my scalp while shaving it. I'll still go there because they do a great job. I would although appreciate to feel more valued as you pay the price for it.
