We absolutely adored Honfleur, yet this meal and service was the worst we had in our two weeks traveling around France. The hotel manager warned that the restaurants around the harbor weren't the best, but that she'd heard good things about this restaurant from other guests. We made reservations a day in advance for two people, yet were stuck behind a bamboo thing that blocked the view of the harbor and kept threatening to fall over.
We ordered the plat du jour--oysters, fish, and creme brulee. The oysters were mediocre at best (we had oysters nearly every meal in the three days we were in Honfleur, and these were by far the worst), the fish was decent, but the real disappointment was the creme brulee, which was pasty and inedible (if you can imagine such a thing).
In summary, stay away from l'Ostrea--there are many very good restaurants in Honfleur, but this is not one of them. read more
