The food was fine. Just what you expect from a good local neighborhood restaurant in Paris. Neighborhood places that depend on regulars don't survive if they are not good. I had steak tartare, a favorite is mine, and it was just as it should be. What made it memorable was the overall experience. The owner is a former Olympic Judo competitor (Barcelona, 1992) and, even 30 years later you have not doubt which one is him- the wiry, well muscled, high energy guy bouncing around the place greeting everyone and hugging and kissing the regulars. At the end of my meal the server brought me a tiny shot glass of good dark rum - apparently a custom of the place. That was very nice. Then, 2 minutes later, the owner came over to the table with another tiny shot glass of VERY good rum and gave me that. It was the first day of huge strikes in Paris and it seemed that giving me this really great little drink was sort of his way of apologizing for any effect that the strikes might have had on my experience. The ambiance of the place was just fun, with olympic memorabilia on the walls and the feeling that most of the people there were neighborhood regulars and knew each other.
