You can visit this place for a 6 hour stint, which unless you are trekking to a remote corner of the island is plenty more than enough. The small main town has some charming cafes and you can take a horse and carriage round one end of the island.
(However in the summer the horses don't seem very happy, and the tour guides seem to work them pretty hard so I wouldn't recommend it.)
Napoleon was exiled here and there are a couple of museums in this honour... there is also occasional live music (I saw a marching band last time I went!) and one off events.
This island is tiny with hardly an inhabitant. If you want a totally deserted beach, you'll probably find one here! read more
