Nivå - Meat greets you when you arrive

What gives with all these low ratings? To me, this restaurant is as good as it gets…read more After my first day at work on a Monday, I wandered over to the downtown area of Karlskrona, figuring out that there is a theatre and nightlife. I accidentally passed by Niva, where my colleagues and I would be having dinner the following night. On Tuesday, my colleagues and I first visited the Marine Museum before we walked over to Niva. All that walking revved up my appetite for dinner. We were a group of fourteen people. Our hosts were kind to tell us to order anything off the menu. Wow! I tried not to be a pig. Speaking of pig, when you first walk in to the restaurant, hanging, chilled meat greets you. This place is super proud and serious about the meat that it uses. We were all handed Swedish menus. Luckily, our server had English ones, which I desperately needed. I ordered a Carlskrona pilsner beer, which is made locally. It was pretty good. I liked how light, crisp, and smooth it went down. I originally wanted to have fish. However, the sirloin steak caught my eye. My former intern had wondered whether I eat steak. She always sees me ordering chicken or turkey. Yep, I do eat steak! I provided her with proof the other day, which got her approval. My sirloin steak came with shaved garlic butter, gravy, coleslaw and greens, and potato gratin. This meal was outstanding. The steak is locally raised. It was tender, flavourful, and delicious. I loved the shaved garlic butter. It was fancy and had so much garlic flavour that no vampire would cause my group harm. The gravy was perfect and tasty. I loved getting a mix of greens and coleslaw. Finally, the potato gratin was over-the-top yummy. It was rich, cheesy, and scrumptious. For dessert, there was vanilla ice cream with raspberry sorbet. I am a huge raspberry sorbet fan and asked that I just get the sorbet. Sure enough, I got two quenelles of raspberry sorbet. Just when you think that things couldn't get any better, they do. This sorbet is the best raspberry sorbet I have ever had in my life. It tasted like ice cream, but it was sorbet to this borderline lactose-intolerant woman. We had a fabulous night chatting and eating with good company. We were treated so well by staff. If I am ever back in Karlskrona, I'd come back here to eat again. (324)

So. All alone on the trip to Karakoram. I was looking for something to excite my taste buds. Not…read moresure why but this place emitted sophistication. Against my better judgment I went in. The server was very nice. But from there on all was down hill. I ordered olives for starter and it was good. It's hard to get olives wrong. I ordered for my main course rib eye and cream potatoes. Potato's were amazing. But my staik was dry. Even that it looked cooked well they had to thin cut. I don't believe this was 300g in any point in time. Due to the thin cut all tasted way to rubbery. I don't know much else here but try and avoid this place if u don't MUST to eat now.

A large black & white sign with "Cozy kitchen bistro & catering" above large open windows and a door, but looking in it just seems like a small and brightly lit white and red-colored hallway. Opened, walked in, and a dark staircase into the basement appears. It's just a few steps, but walking down there's a quite small dining room that appear in front of my eyes. A few dark wooden tables (approximately seven or so) of different sizes lined on both sides of the long milled room with the bar in the far end and the closed-off kitchen behind the bar. I was immediately struck by how quirky and utterly charming the place appeared! Me and my dad were seated at a table and given the menu. And no, holding the menu in our hands wasn't quite an option. Instead, a large black board of at least 1.5 meters in height was put next to our table that featured the menu. I love stuff like that! The number of choices are quite few, approximately three each of starters, mains, and desserts, and I also prefer that than an insane amount of dishes. Make a few and make them perfect is a recipe for success in my book. For starter I opted for a plate of charcuteries and I was served olives, aioli, smoked ham, chili sausages, salami, baby spinach, parma and more. Delicious. My main was a serving of tenderloin steak, roasted Idaho-potatoes, bearnaise, sauteed root vegetables and red wine jus. Simple straight-up pub-food that satisfies pretty much everyone set for a good piece of meat. My dad had the red wine braised beef cheeks with cheddar mash and ragu of mushrooms. My beef was cooked to perfection, but my dad was absolutely floored by how good his beef cheeks were. I had a taste and I'm inclined to agree (though they're never able to beat Rolfs Kök beef cheek staple in this regard). I definitely didn't "need" a dessert as the servings are on the quite generous side, but I couldn't stay away from a trio of raspberry with a warm cup of cappuccino to round of a quite satisfying meal. In all, the food is excellent and the attention to detail is more than adequate along with a quirky and modern dining-room. Maybe not the best serving staff, but my guess is that she was fairly new on the job and I won't let that influence my rating. I'd be more than happy to come back, as the experience was both pleasant, rewarding and well-tasting. Three strong(!) stars.
