This place was so disgusting and disappointing the chicken from my chicken teriyaki tasted like fish and had so much sauce you'd think it was a soup ! My tempura Chicken was 90% tempura and 10% chicken I'm being 100% serious when I tell you these things where just batter. And the egg rolls where so nasty I couldn't take another bite . It's a Saturday night. My husband and I walked in and waited 10 minutes to be asked how many people. We picked private table and waited another 10 minutes to be asked what to drink. And after 25 minutes we still didn't order food. The 40th minute, finally got soup and salad. They ran out of sauce so both ginger sauce and yum yum sauce had a lot of water in it. Could already predict the dinner wouldn't be good. Meat tasted weird and the waiter didn't ask how we like it to be cooked. Shrimps had pieces of shell on. I noticed we were not the only customer who left unhappily. It's such an awful idea to come here to waste time and money. There are lots of fake reviews from new registered accounts on this restaurant's page. Well, you can only trick people to come once. First time eating here since genji sold it so was a little skeptical at first but I'm glad I came to eat here! New owners and management is awesome and very friendly also interactive! The food was better then before with them adding more vegetables to the mix. We had a daughter's friend that was allergic to fish and they did a great job separating her food from the other with sea food. They improved the yum yum sauce which I didn't think was possible but they did it. It Is a little sweeter and not as full or hard on the stomach which is good because I used 4 cups of it! I was very disappointed in Kyoto, I had reservations for my birthday and not only did they give our reservation away do a communication issue on there, they also made us wait in their lobby for almost over 2hrs and kept saying they would seat us soon and disappearing when we looked to ask them for time updates for how much longer it would be, to which they never gave a direct answer. Not only that, when we were faced with no other option than to order our food to go because they were making us late to our next event, we received several meals that were incorrect and in which they had shrimp in them when we did not order shrimp in our meals. We specified what we would like and did not receive that, and then only to be met with a very rude employee working there, he gave us attitude and told us we could not have our money back for the 2 meals and hung up on me! We are very upset and take this matter seriously due to 2 of the members of our party having seafood/shellfish allergies are were given the meals with shrimp with them despite them not asking for it! Thank God they noticed before it was too late! I have never more disappointed in my life that a restaurant as much as I was from this place. I will never eat here again and if you care about your time not being wasted and not having the incorrect meals that could possibly kill you, I wouldn't either! read more

Went as part of a group of 6 with reservation, made to wait in the lobby until whole group was present (not long, one person a few minutes late) but then ushered into an all but empty restaurant to sit with 3 others already seated and waiting. This group then had to wait while we ordered drinks, appetizers, and dinner. Did not make sense to me. Service was then slow, inattentive, and not well informed about the menu or bar options (what is the one craft beer on the menu like -- I don't know). The showmanship of our cook was pretty weak -- not much style and no conversation with any of the diners. Food was cooked and put on plate in an odd order that detracted from the experience -- I ended up with a plate full of vegetables getting cold while I waited for first my protein, and even longer for my steamed rice. Had a dispute about how many shrimp we should have gotten with dinner and appetizer (in part because one of us could not eat shrimp and bec/ appetizer is served with the main dish). Got surly reaction and no relief from the staff. Won't be back - too many other options to try. read more

This is where Genji use to be, 100% downgrade if you are expecting the old restaurant. Staff isn't as professional , and food isn't as good. Always beware of a restaurant that has a huge open sign on it . Server spilled an entire trey of soup, salad bowls, and drinks on my dress clothes. Completely ruined a dinner with my wife and daughter. The manager was nice enough to take $25 off our bill, lol. I didn't complain but that showed me they are desperate for cash flow. Had a 6pm reservation that they insisted was for 7pm... whatever. We can work with that and occupied ourselves in the waiting area. Not seated by 7:15 then 7:30 passes and still not seated. I think we were being played by the hostess who just plain ignored us. By 7:45 I was afraid I was going to eat the sushi guy so we just left. Yes, I realize you should have reservations on a Saturday night. However, the kids were super excited so we called. They said they had a 40 min wait and would put us on the list now. We arrived 25 minutes later to be told we needed to wait 30 minutes. We had already bought tickets for a movie and it would be tight but figured we could still make it work. 20 minutes later, I checked on the wait. She told me it would be 30 minutes? I'm not quite sure how that math works. I totally get if they can't take tables outside of reservations, but that should be told to people when they call and/or their time estimates should strive to be much more accurate. I had bought a Groupon deal, so my wife and I decided to check this place out. We had not made a reservation, so when we found that the wait would be at least half an hour, we opted to dine at the bar. Our server was a very nice and prompt person, though she and everyone else there seemed extremely rushed. I had gyoza and my wife had tofu as appetizers; the tofu was mediocre, but the gyoza were excellent. My wife ordered steak teriyaki; I ordered two sushi rolls. The steak came out around 15 minutes before my rolls were brought, and so my wife sat watching her food get cold as we waited for my rolls to arrive. The truly annoying part was that the sushi chef had been standing right there in front of us with his armed crossed the entire time, doing next to nothing. So, I failed to understand why my rolls had not been made earlier. Even more, it felt as if they had jacked the thermostat up to hellish temperatures. That said, the food was good. It was not spectacular. There are much nicer Japanese restaurants in Columbus, with much better food. So I doubt I'll be back to Kyoto. read more

My boyfriend and I recently went here purely because this restaurant was on Groupon. We got there and told the waitress we had a groupon and told her what we assume the groupon was from reading the title section and using many other coupons titled the same way. We ordered and the food was average. It wasn't bad, it wasn't good, but if we didn't have a Groupon we would have gone elsewhere. So after we are done eating some random guy comes up to our table and says "you have a Groupon?" and I say yes and show him it. He then asks where our check was and we hadn't received it yet. So he leaves and comes back and says we have to order $50 worth of food in order to get the groupon which said $30 worth for $16. So after already paying $16 for the Groupon we would have had to pay an extra $20 on top of that making it $36 plus a tip, as if that's a deal? I don't understand why our waitress questioned the groupon and what we thought it was but waited until AFTER we ordered and ate. If we would have known we would have left or not even gone to begin with. The conditions in the groupon fine print are not even very clear. I later found out my friend had gone and ran into the same exact issue. The groupon title is 100% misleading. Even without that the restaurant wasn't good enough to ever consider going back. The food was forgettable and the experience was frustrating all around. Thankfully Groupon gave us a full refund. read more

This place is good for sushi and Nigiri. However, the noodle soup and fried rice is very salty. They have fancy shows in front of the table for fried rice, which I don't enjoy much cause of the heat...The round table literally leaves less privacy for different groups of people. If you are a group of five and above, you want to make sure that you come at the same time, otherwise they won't let you in. Plus, they pre-charge 18% tip for group. read more

My husband and I ate here today, loved it. We got the sampler appetizer to start. Had 3 tempura shrimp, 2 California rolls, and katsu chicken. We also ordered the coconut nigiri sake warmed, delicious. The coconut sake was a special but if they have it the next time we come I will be ordering a large. If you like sake and coconut....yum. For dinner, Chris got the Yaki Udon with seafood, the noodles were good and it was loaded with shrimp. I ordered the chicken and filet mingnon hibachi dinner. The hibachi dinner comes with a show. You are seated near the grill and can watch the chef prepare it and do tricks with some of the food. It was neat to see and most definatly took skill. We also had some dynamite rolls which my husband plans to order again. All followed by some mochi ice cream. I love mochi ice cream. The waitress was attentive without being in the way. My husband and I had a nice quiet dinner. We were the only people there at opening time on a Wednesday. The interior had some nice wall are and kimono on display. I will be going back. read more

Went Last night with friends for my birthday, when we arrived we were told it would be 30-40 minute wait. No big deal we went to the bar and had a couple drinks. An hour later we checked in with the hostess and were told we were next, 30 minutes later we checked in again and were told we would be seated with in 5-10 minutes. We were finally seated about 15 minutes later. When we were seated we waited a while and our drink order was finally taken and the waitress came back with waters and soda and said the bar was busy, not a big deal. She asked what our alcohol order was again because she didnt write it down. 5ish minutes later she came back with the beers that were ordered sat them down and and asked our cocktail order again and still didnt write it down. When she left we realized none of the beers were open and they were not twist off. We waited several minutes for her to come back to have the beers opened and when she came back to take our orders and open the beers we were asked about or cocktail order for a THIRD time. A friend that was with us went to speak with a manager and all he had to say was it was only her second day, which we understood but why wasn't she still being trained. When she returned again without our drinks we got up and left, we stopped at the bar in our way out and spoke with management again and they blew off the entire situation and we left. The other half of our table seemed very unhappy with the experience and the chef was unengaged. This was not what we expected for a hibachi restaurant. My party arrived for our reservation and were told the table would be ready shortly. After an hour of waiting we were seated to not only not be greeted by a waitress but to unfortunately have to get up after waiting 30 minutes to ask if someone was going to take our order or even bring waters. The staff was unprofessional by speaking poorly of other customers and tables while they were still in the restaurant. We waited and additional hour, no one checked on our table or asked to refresh our beverages. After 2 and half hours after our reservation was intended to start no food. We left shortly after a family states they waited 3 hours and received no food. Would never recommend or return. read more

Visited for the first time for dinner. Service was very good. I had the filet and shrimp and my wife had the filet and chicken. The filet's and shrimp were excellent. We were disappointed with the chicken and the vegetables as they were sauteed with something sweet and not the usual soy sauce. I wish they would tell people up front about it and give them the option. It wasn't that bad, it's just that we're not a big fan of sweet sauces. Besides that, would definitely recommend. read more

This was the worst customer service experience I have ever had in my life we are a part of a large party and I understand being short staffed but not setting the expectations for what is going to happen is inexcusable. We had to wait over an hour for our chef to even come to the table and before he got there I asked the manager what was going on and instead of being apologetic he told me that he let the host (of our party) know that he was holding off on our order but never let us know. He then preceded to argue with me and was extremely rude. Excellent! I normally expect a Japanese Steakhouse to have slightly dry chicken, but this was the most moist and flavorful I've ever had! The steak was also spot on. Kyoto is usually one of my boyfriend & I's go-to's for lunch so today around noon we decided that's where we would go. To our displeasure, AFTER waiting the 15 minutes to be seated, and nearly 10 minutes to even get a drink to be served, the guests sitting at the table next to us got their bill(they had been served before we sat down) and was upset because their bill included all dinner pricing, so they asked our table if we were told by anyone that it was supposed to be dinner prices only-even though it was during the lunch hours. We said no, and so did everyone else they asked. This was frustrating because even though they supposedly "served dinner portions" they informed no one prior to beginning service. For those of you unfamiliar, the lunch meals range from 10-13$ and dinner 20-26$. That is literally absurd that they were going to charge us double the price that we had planned on paying, but not mention it to us when we came in. The sign for the holidays said "dinner menu only", but only next to christmas day & new year's eve. It did not say that New Year's day or Christmas eve were dinner prices all day only. Because of this issue, we left immediately. Didn't even take a sip of our drinks. Very disappointing and a waste of our time. read more

They charged people dinner prices on New Year's day without informing anyone that they were not serving lunch at noon on a Wednesday. We spoke to the other table and they were not informed of it being dinner only as well. When we spoke to the staff, they stated that we were given dinner menus. The menus have the lunch menu printed inside of them and the staff acted like they had no idea. She tried to argue again that we were given dinner menus. We were then told that we were given dinner sized portions of meat, as if we were supposed to know how many ounces they serve. They originally did not want to adjust the bill in any way, but then "discounted" 30% off. We received our bills and they added 25% gratuity. I was a single person paying for only myself. The food itself was mediocre as the steak was cooked all the way through when it was supposed to be medium. There was a lot of water on the bottom of the salad. The bean sprouts had only a burnt flavor. I would not recommend as they were not customer friendly when a problem arose and the prices are high for mediocre flavors. read more
