It somewhat boggles the mind that a business claiming to specialize, among other things, in Texas vehicle inspections hires employees who lack the most basic understanding of how a headlight system functions -- and refuse to even consider the fact that they're wrong -- but that was exactly my experience at Kwik Kar yesterday. My car, a somewhat older BMW, needed its annual inspection. Having just had it fully serviced a month earlier, I knew there was nothing wrong with it. Imagine my surprise when, right AFTER paying for a vehicle inspection, I was told my car didn't pass, for the sole reason that my high beams were "broken." (To go off on a bit of a technical tangent: BMWs typically have two front lights on each side of the vehicle. The outside lights are the primary ones, and operate in both normal and high-beam mode. The inside lights are secondary; they act as daytime running lights, if you choose to keep them on -- I don't, personally, since Texas is sunny the vast majority of the time during daylight hours -- as well as "bi-xenon" lights in selected models. Bi-xenons expand the overall area covered by high beams, but they are optional and under no circumstances mandated by law. My particular vehicle does not have the bi-xenon option.) Anyway, the inspector -- who was clearly unfamiliar with Texas code regarding high-beam requirements -- said I failed but was welcome to come back and try again after getting my lights "fixed," presumably for another $40 charge. I realized immediately that the inspector was in the wrong, and brought him over to physically show him that my high-beams on the outside lights worked perfectly. Didn't work. He further claimed I had to be wrong because they happened to have a different BMW model in the bay at the time -- one equipped with the aforementioned bi-xenons -- and since *its* inner lights had high beams, then mine must clearly be "broken." Since obviously there was nothing I could do to "fix" a nonexistent problem, I simply left and went to an inspection place in the Heights; their technicians were as shocked as I was that my inspection failed for a non-reason. They concluded, as have I, that it was likely some sort of scam, and issued me a new inspection sticker post-haste; they were actually apologetic that I had to pay a second time for inspection when I had done absolutely nothing wrong. The interesting irony here is the fact that Kwik Kar has an old newspaper article posted on the wall of their waiting area discussing how "honest" they are as a business. I think it's safe to say the article is either fake or woefully outdated. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Do not come in on a Saturday and expect speedy service. Called a day early to get a quote for front brake pad repair. They quoted me at 45 mins and said they had the part in stock for my make and model on Sat morning. This was perfect since I had plans to drive to Dallas at 1 pm on Saturday, and I wanted to make sure my brakes were in tip top shape. However, I received shoddy service/work from Kwik Kar, I could never reach the shop for an update, and I ended up receiving my car 5 hours later. I dropped off my car a little before 10:30 and left my phone number. When they did not call within 45 minutes, I started to get a little worried. I called right around the 2 hour mark and there was no answer. I called again, and yet again, no answer. Since it was after the 2 hour window, well after the originally quoted 45 mins, I figured the car would be ready. We get there and the mechanic says they are waiting on the part. Evidently the owner of the shop was on his way to get the part from the part shop. Not sure why we were lied to the day before, evidently they did not have the part that was needed. We were told that it would be another hour before they would get the part and fix it up. So, I took an uber back to my apartment and after an hour I called the shop again. There was no answer. I waited a few minutes and called back, again no answer. After the third call, someone finally picked up and said that the part had not yet been received BUT as soon as they received it, it would only take 15 minutes to put the new pads on. The mechanic assures me that the part is going to be delivered in the next 5 minutes and that my car will be ready within 20. When I arrive at the shop, to my dismay, the part has still not arrived. Furthermore, I saw all of the mechanics sitting outside not doing anything. This might be the reason that the phone goes unanswered so much of the time, nobody is inside manning the phones. The part FINALLY arrives, and it takes the mechanic no time at all to put the pads on and lower my car. Make note that this is 5 hours after I dropped off my car, when I was originally quoted at 45 minutes and no longer than 2 hours. The total was about ~$50 for the brake pads and then close to $90 for 1 hour of labor. I honestly believe had I not been following my car so closely, they would have tried to charge me for more than 1 hour, even though the total time actually spent on my vehicle was less than 30 minutes. All in all, a terrible experience with Kwik Kar. They are neither quick or courteous, do yourself a favor and take your brake job to another shop. read more

When I get there a guy says "what you want " I say an oil change. "What kind?" Whatever was in it last time. It's in the computer or door sticker. "No" I don't understand. "Regular or synthetic?" Regular. "Go inside " a little while later, "You're done " That's it? Did you change the filters? "Oil filter " cabin filter? "Didn't look. Want me to check them?" Not now. So I think I paid $44.09 for five quarts of oil and a new filter. Not certain. Definitely no mention of topping of fluids or anything else. Do not recommend. Service by thugs with no customer service skills. read more

BEWARE THIS SHOP!!!!! I went there for an oil change that cost me $1200. After getting my oil changed there that took about 15 minutes i came to find out that while i was not looking my car was ransacked and i was taken for about $1100 out of my glove box. Furthermore there was no one there that knew how to use the camera system and nothing has been done about this atrocity since. The only thing i got out of this entire experience was a major personal loss and a piece of paper with a case number from the HPD. read more

I've been here a couple of times, and both times were great. They are nice and polite and best of all, they get the work done efficiently and quickly. I've never been asked to get other work done on my car. And, I remember the first time I came here an older woman in the waiting room told me that she's been taking her car here for a while. It's not shiny and new any more, but I love it enough and try to take care of it to last me another 130K as a daily driver. They're curtious, fast, friendly and not once have they tried to trick me into buying things I don't need for my car...which I find places like this tend to do to unsuspecting car-idiots, like moi. They even have "ladies specials" on certain days of the week. Ok, I'm not entirely sure what that means, but I think if you're a girl you get a discount on Tuesdays? I asked one question, and got such a rude response that I decided to leave quietly and go to the other location, although I live closer to this location. I will never return! I love this place! I have been getting my oil changed here every 3 months for the last 2 years and I have always been super pleased with my experience. (I also get my annual inspection sticker here.) Yes, I am sure I could get an oil change somewhere else for cheaper (it usually costs me a little less than $40), but the employees at this location are polite, super fast and most importantly they have never tried to take advantage of me by telling me I need to replace a filter or some other item that does not need to be replaced/fixed. I have been to several other places where they try to sell me extra services that I don't need and I have never gotten that at Kwik Kar. A couple times I have taken my car in for something (like a leak or to change my headlight) and when they aren't able to address the problem, they tell me instead of saying they did something or doing a half-way job and they have never charged me just for looking at it (which the dealer always does). I also like that they vacuum out my car and clean the windows when they change the oil. It is like the cherry on top! I plan to continue going to the Washington Kwik Kar location and I would definitely recommend it. read more

Been coming here since I've moved back to the downtown Houston area. The guys here are fast and transparent. I drive a VW and the tech made sure to let me know my oil change would cost me more since they take a special oil (same for Audi). I was grateful he let me know instead of just doing it and not considering my expected cost. I think their normal oil change is like $20-30. Mine cost $80. So if you have a VW or Audi (or another German car) expect a high cost but very well done oil change. read more

I have gone to them 3 times and have yet to have any problems. I saw that they had good reviews on here and decided to try them out. I will only go to them for now on even if it is out of my way. The staff there is nice and they don't try to sale you extra services. I made the mistake of going to another Kwik Kar on Richmond in the Galleria and they ended up messing up my power steering. At the time I didn't know it was a franchise. I will only go to this location because I know they will always do a great job and they give me a $3 discount with my little card. I would have given 5 stars but my only issue with this location is that the men there hit on me. Its nice but I feel its unprofessional. Since they do such a good job I won't make a big deal over it because I really don't trust taking my car anywhere else at the moment. read more

I've been getting my oil changed and inspections done here for several years. They are serious about Kwik, and the guys here are awesome. They will also put a scanner on your vehicle to check for error codes. My check engine light came on a while back and they told me exactly what caused it. They were not able to fix this specific issue, but there are a few things they can do right here. And.... They vacuum the floor boards!!! read more

Very quick, but expensive! I was on my way to Take 45 and passed this place instead- saw something on their marquee advertising "Great coupons!" so I googled them to see what they offered- $10 off a full synthetic oil change. I had a $7 off oil change at the other place and know how long they can take so I thought I'd give this place a try. I pulled in and told the attendant what I wanted and showed him my coupon, he said "ok they'll handle that at check out just show it to him when you pay, go wait inside while we do the oil change". I go wait inside, it's clean and quiet, they immediately service my car and it's done in maybe 20 minutes total, the cashier calls me to the desk and I show him my coupon and he tells me "oh we're independently owned, that doesn't work here you have to go to OUR website". Their website only offered $5 off and apparently the oil change is more expensive at Kwik Kar so in total it ended up costing me $100. Next time I'll just wait a little longer and go to Take 5 and save myself some $$. read more

Went in on a Tuesday afternoon. Wasn't sure where to park so I parked on the side by Sonic. No one really came up to me so I had to walk to the workers in the garage and they seemed annoyed I asked for help. So make sure you pull around to the back and park there. Anyways the other man that helped me with my state inspection was very nice and helpful. I was in and out before 20 mins. I will definitely go here again but hopefully the smoke smell of the lobby area will be gone. read more

DISGUSTING BEHAVIOR: For security reasons, I will not be putting my name or real Yelp account on here. All I wanted was my oil changed, not to be hit on. Some guy working there (I didn't catch his name) would not stop being creepy from the start! When I asked him to check my power steering as well, he responded "I'll check out anything you want" with a big smile. NO, absolutely not. That is NEVER how you treat a customer. And then, he walks me out to my car after the service is down, wouldn't leave and hangs in my window giving me some business card with his number written on it and telling me how he wants to take me out and take me "horseback riding". I was in and out within 15 minutes but you can definitely check that they were going around my car and making sure everything was right it wasn't a lack of quality just efficient which I like. They printed out one of those stickers that was very useful including the last oil used which sometimes is hard to keep track of. I had Joe and he was awesome very personable and knew what he was talking about. Someone had mentioned that they had just fired someone and they still manage to get three cars in and out in a timely manner. So maybe any of the complaints that you see her on Yelp would have been about that fired employee because everyone I met here was great! 3-6 pm you get 5 off for oil changes. I grew up around cars and I think the price was reasonable especially for the ease. Thanks y'all! read more

Take a while for them to greet you and smoking cigarettes while I'm looking at them to greet me. Service was great little pricey, but extremely fast; even with cars already their. What a HUGE disappointment! After reading reviews for this place I figured that for something as simple as an inspection, I'd be able to give an equally stellar review. Au contraire! I went early on a Monday as I figured since most people are at work by that time, it would be the perfect time to get my inspection, license and registration. So, I drive in and am greeted by a mechanic who was talking to another customer in the parking lot. I tell him I need an inspection, he tells me to put my info on the dash and leave the keys. I ask him how long it would take, to which he responded 30 minutes. I notice at that point that there is NO ONE ELSE waiting and that two other employees are sitting, chatting in one of the bays. I also notice that their sign says "two machines" for faster service. The boyf and I decide to take a walk down to walgreens to check out redbox and get some teas. We walk back, only to notice that the bays are still empty-NEITHER machine was being used- the employees are STILL talking in their chairs, and another is STILL talking to the previous customer in the parking lot. My car is STILL in the parking lot. I was hoping that my car had been finished in the half hour, as said. We ask them if its finished. Nope, an employee walks out to the parking lot, towards my car, but instead stops and talks to the guy who is still in the parking lot. Wtf. Seriously. Pissed. They had four employees, all entirely lagging on the job and not doing anything near what they are supposed to. So, finally, after the ONE employee who decided to get off his a** finishes his obviously so important conversation (note the sarcasm) with the guy sitting in the lot, goes and gets my car and brings it into the empty garage. Awesome. So I get to wait ANOTHER half hour for one of four employees to finally do their job and stop wasting my time. Seriously. What a let down. I will NEVER. Never never ever go back there. Nor would I recommend anyone going there. read more

Good for a quick oil change. The workers seem to hate their jobs here. Service is very crappy. I know I'm going for an oil change, but goodness you can smile a little cant you! I asked for an inspection and showed my insurance card on my phone and I they said they needed a paper copy. Huh!? They told me I can fax it in.....its 2015 people. Now I don't know if this is a kwik kar policy or some legal issue, but what I do know is that it makes no sense. Regardless there are plenty of other places where you can get your oil changed with better service. read more
