Kusadasi, Turkey - when I am in Turkey, of course I'll have to try a hammam (Turkish bath)!
This place is quite close to the port and you can easily walk here in 10-15 mins. It's a historical place meaning it's old and rundown...
It's an interesting experience but I wouldn't say it's unbelievable because first off it's a bit unorganized. Maybe because of the language barrier, I wasn't sure what to do. So turns out I would have to wash myself for 5 mins and the lady would come in and massage me with lots of bubbles.
Oh yeah this part was the most interesting! After I washed myself (just briefly because I didn't know what to use besides water lol) I lied down on a big warm marble platform. She had this giant cloth bag and she filled it with bubbles and squeezed them out on my body! Then she proceeded to use a loofah glove to scrub me with the bubbles. Her hands were very quick and it's done pretty soon. But it's very enjoyable! My skin felt so soft afterwards! (But I was a bit dubious about how clean her loofah was...)
Oh and yeah the changing room was not very clean. The slippers didn't look like they were sanitized and they weren't even placed tidily inside the changing room... anyway I was there for the experience so whatever.
After I dried myself with a low-quality towel, at least I was dry, I lied face down and waited for my massage to happen. It's the same lady who did the bubble thing on me. She got strong hands but she's moving very fast again. Maybe that's her style. But nonetheless it was relaxing. She massaged my back and also my front which was rare and I really liked it. I wasn't a fan of the oil she used though. Afterwards I went back to my room for a shower.
The roughly one hour experience cost 45€ a little pricey for Turkish standard but it's close to the cruise port at least.
Definitely worth a try! read more
