The Heymann in Eppendorf is a medium-sized bookstore spanning two floors which seems to be the only moderately-sized bookstore in the entire Hoheluft-Ost/Eppendorf area. Truth be told, I'm more of a Thalia fan. I find Heymann to be a bit chaotic as far as store organization goes, they're got a weak discount-book selection and not much by way of English books. There does seem to be an abnormally large selection of travel books and occult-related topics, so if you're into these, you might want to check Heymann out. I'm largely interested in books related to Graphic Design, and in this regard, the selection at Heymann is of the slimmest I've seen (unless you count Photography, Interior design, Plastic Arts and Architecture into the mix, which I don't).
Heymann does, however, come up with some rare gems once in a while, and I have found some great books there. Unfortunately, in my range of interests, this doesn't happen much.
I don't like the service at Heymann. They seem to be largely disinterested and normally chat away amongst each other without paying much attention to customers.
What's nice about Heymann in general is that they have book signings and readings. This particular Heymann is too small for these, but it does advertise these events for other Heymanns in the area. Next time you're in Eppendorf check their store window for any upcoming events. I've had a friend come all the way from Berlin for one of these events, so they should be good! read more
