Kupp is a very colourful modern airy restaurant with beautiful views of the canal at the Paddington Basin. High ceiling and large floor to ceiling windows makes it the perfect place to wind down during the day whilst enjoying the sun shining through or at night and seeing the light reflect of the water. Seating is plentiful and well spaced out with plug sockets available to laptop users.
Their menu has a big focus on Scandinavian cuisine and every Sunday they offer an excellent bottomless brunch menu for £30 each which includes unlimited boards of Scandinavian food ranging from fish, pork to a roast beef board, paired with traditional breads, salads and Lekland Knacker crispbread. Their bottomless brunch is limited to 90 mins per seating and includes unlimited refills of their two cocktails and beer.
Their Bloody Mary was pretty strong, slightly too heavy on the bitter notes for me but with some extra salt and sugar in there and after the ice melted, it was pretty decent.
Their Scandi Collins was much preferred. The bitterness worked well with the lemon, almost like a grapefruit. Very refreshing and one we refilled on a couple of times.
The Fiske Board
Probably my favourite board of the brunch (we ordered two). The salmon gravadlax was amazing, perfectly cured, fleshy and slithering smooth. Smoked trout was slightly dry but I enjoyed it;s flakiness, sweet flavours and well seasoned marinate. Atlantic prawns were deliciously fresh and plump in a nice mayonnaise dressing. It was all accompanied with a delicious pickled pepper and carrot slaw, fluffy potato salad, plenty of other salad leaves, crispy rye bread and Lekland Knacker crispbread.
The Kupp board
The house smoked meatball were quite standard, lacking depth. But they were meaty and kept moist by the mustard coating. Potted rabbit however was too dry and didn't do much for flavour. Chorizo sausage roll was also lacking moisture too, quite dense and flavours quite subdued, even the bits of chorizo itself. The ham however were sweet, tender and succulent and paired well with the rich Västerbotten cheese which was similar to mature cheddar. Accompanied with nice fresh fluffy white bread which was much welcomed to mop everything up with.
The smokin' roast bord
The fore rib of beef may not have been the most tender cut, in fact it was quite tough being quite fibrous. However with a bit of gnawing I very much enjoyed the sweetness of the medium rare cuts, incredibly juicy and rich in flavour. Paired with it were delicious honey smoked beetroot, creamy buttered smoked onions and roasted potatoes. The lingonberry jam didn't do much for me, very oily but the red wine gravy was out of this world, rich, complex and salty.
On another board which accompanied it were lovely leafy cabbage, sweet rusted butternut squash and leeks, although the leeks themselves were quite old making it very tough to chew through. Still I enjoyed them after discarding the first layer.
In the space of 90 mins we managed to demolish 5 boards between us which is pretty good. I felt I ate and drank my money worth. The staff were even kind enough to remind us to make our last order before our time was up but sadly by then we were too full to fit anymore. For a bottomless brunch I definitely feel less guilty as the food was much healthier compared to other brunches out there with all the unprocessed meats, grains, vegetables and salads. Nice to have a good variety too. None of the food was mind blowing but combined with the atmosphere, friendliness, lovely views outside and it being laptop friendly, I can see myself returning again quite soon. read more
