I'm practicing as an adult but I've seen some of the children's classes and they also look wonderful. The owner and instructor, Dave, is also a really incredible person. He is kind, patient, and extremely good at breaking down the moves and teaching in a cohesive and fun way. Whether you're a beginner or have some martial arts experience (I do) this place is absolutely worth checking out. Pricing is also competitive for SCV and does not require a contract, which I appreciated since a lot places try to lock you into some crazy terms. An amazing friendly and wonderful place to learn something new.

I found this studio on Yelp searching by distance from my home, and was delighted to learn it was so close to where I live! After reading the overview of the studio, I contacted them to see if I could about learn more about their style of Kung Fu to see if it was for me. David was informative and enthusiastic about EVERYTHING Mindful Kung Fu offers, and quick to respond (always a plus in my book)! We had a great chat and encouraged me to come in and try a class. Tucked in a shopping center just off Sierra Highway, catty corner from Dunkin' Donuts is this gem! The door has a giant logo that states "peace through confidence." And when you walk through that door, you are immediately transported into a zen temple. I was home. It was peaceful. David was finishing up the junior class, but greeted me immediately. Man, those little guys looked like that were having a blast! And, wow, David was just as friendly in-person as he was on the phone. He has such passion for the benefits of both Kung Fu and Tai Chi not just for self defense, but for inner peace. You could tell he could talk about the Kung Fu and Tai Chi for hours, and you want listen. You will want to try it, and so I did. David was so patient while teaching me techniques (who doesn't want to learn something called monkey or dragon?) and encouraging, and I got to fight him on my very first day?! I couldn't believe how quickly the time went in just an hour, and knew I had to commit for myself. Training the body, mind and spirit, while finding peace through confidence. Yes please! RUN, don't walk to sign up to change your life through studying at Mindful Kung Fu. A beautiful, and safe place that offers classes for all ages - Pee Wees (ages 4-7), Juniors (ages 7 and up) and Adults. And another perk? Classes are offered morning and evenings, with a bonus Saturday morning Tai chi and Push Hands class for two hours. You're never too young, or old, to learn a new craft. A new business to the area, but David has been training the system (suh do kwan) for many years. You can only benefit from a studying with David! Your first two classes are free, contact them today. Trust me, you won't regret it. It's a new year, a new decade, come discover you while "training only to master yourself" (the school's motto). Thank you for bringing an authentic martial art to Santa Clarita.

All three of us have been taking Kung Fu, and my son who is 12 and I also take Kenpo Fighting Sticks. About a year ago Master Dave brought Krav Maga into the studio, and it is AWESOME. This is the Israeli combat/defense system taught to their army and defense forces. It's an unbelievable work out with lots of cardio, but very practical in terms of self defense. They offer a variety of martial arts, so you'll be able to find whatever you're looking for. Krav maga, kung fu for all ages and levels, shinkendo, "fight club", weapons training. I've taken many krav maga classes, one kung fu class, and many shinkendo classes. Their schedule is updated weekly and can be found online, so you'll always know what class is happening when. Master Dave (who I've had krav maga classes with) and Sensei Lynch (who I've had shinkendo with) are both incredibly respectable and respectful, friendly people and great teachers. Master Dave always explains the reasoning behind the movements you're learning and how they apply to a self-defense situation. Sensei Lynch offers LOADS of insightful history about samurai and Japanese swordsmanship. Both classes are a great work out. And even with all their experience and expertise, both teachers are still humble about it and love to see their students' progress. If you're interested I very much recommend taking one of their free classes to try it out and see how you like it. Unlike some places I've been to, you won't feel pressured about anything.

Lastly, I have visited many different dojos and styles, the one thing I am looking for is the ability practice even if I am in my 80s, if it cannot support me while I am aging, then it is not a style that considers life seriously nor long term. If you see a dojo that has people from all ages and walk of life, something to take note. People are serious and it's doable.

There haven't been many recent reviews, especially about tai chi specifically, so I wanted to share…read moremy experience :) I've been taking tai chi classes here for about a month, and so far it's been amazing. Somehow at the end of every class, I feel happy, energized and relaxed all at once. I took tai chi about 10 years ago (Wu style short form) so I'm familiar with some of the basic concepts and stances, but it's been a long time... so it's been great to get back into it. Sigung Carrie and Sigung Jennings are the best. They're patient, professional, funny and warm. They have a lot of wisdom to share, and they really help you to learn all the details of the form as you go through it. Each class is one hour, and there are two classes per week. We spend the first ~25 minutes of each class doing warm-up exercises (which really help you to focus and connect with your body), and then the next ~35 minutes learning the next part of the form. I feel that everything progresses at a good pace, so I have enough time to practice each move / stance before moving on to the learning the next one. One thing to note is that White Lotus shares a big open space (in the JAM facility) with other tumbling / parkour / tricking classes that are going on at the same time. When I first came in to observe a tai chi class, I was a little concerned because the other class that was going on on the other side of the room was pretty loud so I thought it would be distracting. But honestly, once I joined the tai chi class and started doing the exercises and focusing on the form, I found that I barely noticed the other class happening next to us. Maybe others would be deterred by it because they'd prefer a quiet and meditative space, but I don't find it to be a major issue since I can just kind of "zone in" on whatever we're practicing. Anyway, if you're looking to learn tai chi I think this is a great place to do it! I had tried other "tai chi" classes at yoga studios in the SFV and found that they were really just yoga classes with a few random tai chi moves sprinkled in, which wasn't what I was looking for. At White Lotus, you will learn the "48 Forms of Taiji." It's a great way to build strength, balance and flexibility (and improve your mental health, too, in my experience). Come check it out if you're interested... everyone is super friendly :)

My first impression of this place is very positive, it's like a giant playground for ninjas! ;) It might be a little intimidating at the beginning, with everyone flipping and flying everywhere but there is so much room to move around it's crazy liberating. First I worked on my punches, nice how they have little doughnuts around the punching bags for uppercuts. Then watched some of the guys do some freerunning, the moves they do are so sick! The fact that they are 6-pack fit with no shirts on has absolutely NOTHING to do with my staring *ahem* observance. =p It seems like most of the people here are courteous and friendly a few Bboys even taught me some moves. I learned some basic top rock, up rock, 6 step and baby freeze. The wall of mirrors help with self-adjustment of poses and let me know how goofy I look with my arm wave. =) At the end I tried out the spring floor, jumped on the various mats they have and flopped about on the trampoline. The only gymnastic move I could do is an awkward cartwheel to my right. My uncoordinated jumps across the large blocks were landed with heavy face plants and belly-flops. The large trampoline was thrilling with how easy it was to catch so much air. I didn't even try out the scaffolding they set up because my most recent attempt at a pull-up just had me hanging with my feel dangling for a few seconds. o_O; Despite all my shortcomings as an athlete, working out at White Lotus was pure fun and had me laughing and grinning like a kid in a candy store. I have to say the $5 fee for open gym was well spent, you can't even buy a bag of popcorn at the movies for that price. There's so much good stuff that could be said about "Regan's Martial Arts" that it's hard to review without sounding like a Fanboy. First of all Dan is an unassuming all round great guy from the east coast. He has vast knowledge of many styles and believes in building on the skills and experience you come to class with. If you're a boxer or BJJ expert, no problem. Bring that skill to class and he'll show you how to compliment what you know with Kali or Wing Chun or Muay Thai etc. For those who don't know, Kali/Escrima is a style from South East Asia that emphasizes weapon-based fighting. It is not exactly in the mainstream like BJJ, MMA or other Karate type arts. The empty-hand techniques also taught in these styles translate directly to weapons-based techniques. You'll have to see it to know what I mean. Classes are fairly small, new comers are welcomed. They rent space from a plush Karate dojo so most of the time training is indoors despite the pics on Yelp. I recommend you bring your own MMA style gloves. If you don't have all the cool toys when you arrive for the first few time you can borrow sticks or training knives from one of the students. We're all very friendly. The monthly fee is absolutely worth it and there is a drop in fee to "try out" the class. If there is a bad thing to say it is only that I wish I had heard of Dan's classes 10 years ago.
