Wow, what a great find. It's a tiny tiny shop reminding me of the small shops in Japan. Kuma has 6-seats at a bar like counter and one small high top table.
The prices are very reasonable for the portions, quality of food, and beer is half the price you'd pay in San Diego! We stood in line and waited about 25-minutes. The owner came out and took our order so it was ready shortly after being seated.
My husband once again ordered the best item! The chicken karaage was marinated, grilled, and so damn good. It wasn't fried like in the states and while I wish it was cut into smaller more manageable bites, I have zero complaints. The katsu curry was good, the breaded chicken could've been crispier, and that egg was creamy and delicious.
The curry itself reminded me of golden curry which I ate growing up, but had a kick that hit the back of the throat. It was a nice heat that stayed with me until the end.
Kuma is a nice change from the bread and chocolate of Paris. Their takeout window had a rotating line of customers who appeared to be local and regulars. I'd recommend trying this place if you're looking for something different and would suggest going off peak, around 2pm like we did. read more
