Its position on the edge of the Bosphorus must have made this the perfect summer residence for Ottoman Sultans Abdulmecid I to the Balyan family from 1849 to 1855. It was used it for short country excursions and hunting expeditions. Since the palace was constructed strictly for a summer home for the royal family.
Built in the mid-19th century, the Baroque palace has two main levels and a basement, with a footprint of 15 x 27 meters. But don't be fooled into thinking it's simple. The Küçüksu's interior is very grand, with its Italian marble fireplaces, many Bohemian crystal chandeliers, impressive Turkish upholstery, and an incredible array of paintings and other art.
It has been open to the public since 1944 and even appeared in a James Bond film in 1999.
Headsets are free with admission ticket. I highly recommend taking advantage of them. Take your time strolling through this beautiful pavilion and take in its deep history.
It is located a bit out of the way. I was staying in the Fatih district. I had to take a ferry and a cab to get to the pavilion.
