You'll get a beautiful industrial view in addition to public displays, cafes, and museum. Regardless of what day you visit, you'll find plenty of frequent visitors, but will also find good spots to relax alone. I recommend this spot for engineers, those curious of Essen's history, and others who want to sight-see. You'll also find Germany's longest escalator nearby on the way to the museum.

But having visited this place last weekend - WOW what a surprise!!! IT'S MASSIVE!!! We just went for a quick visit because I didn't expect much but now I'm a fan of this place. It's difficult to describe. It's a museum. A monument to the industrial past of the Ruhr area. It's a great place to visit - picnic. I need to go back again. English tours are available and last about 2 hours (possible to reserve for free by calling ahead). The tours cost 10€ and incorporate video for great understanding of the old systems. The tour guide was very nice (our tour guide was from the Netherlands). A great spot for learning a very important part of our modern industrial history. Those interested in architecture will also find many aspects of the site very interesting, especially some areas looking like a perspective drawing and the buildings as steps leading to the main tower.

Strange how this particular site was not dismantled and sold to the Chinese like the others sites. If you enjoy industrial abandonment as much as I do, then visit. This site is one of mankinds stepping stones to life as we know it today. WONDERFUL, p.s., this is still a project under construction.
