First let me say it was Mike's idea to come here. :-D Krave is just like the other "gourmet" and "specialty" burger joints: long-winded in their descriptions of their locally-sourced, no-fillered and super-duper meat, but short on taste. The resto itself looks like a fast-food version of an Apple store: very white, very pristine and very soulless. We both tried the traditional burger and fries combo. At over $20 for two combos? I was expecting something pretty good. Unfortunately it was very "meh." I like the portable table numbering system. I like the TVs showing sports (although they were all on the same station, which is not the norm). The staff were all very friendly and we were given a sample of chocolate shake. I like that we can leave the trays on the tables rather than having to sort everything in the different garbage/recycling containers. But the food wasn't that great. The burgers had little flavour and were quite small for the price. The fries were overcooked and tough. Mike is much more forgiving than me when it comes to eating out, and even he was disappointed. Plus the washrooms aren't clean, or they weren't when I tried to use them. I'm sure I've said this before, but if I want a good burger? I'll stick with Durty Nelly's. read more

We stopped in here during Open City and were lucky enough to catch one of their last "back door takeout" meals - pulled pork mac n' cheese with crispy onions. YUM! This was enough incentive for us to venture inside to try some food too! I like the atmosphere here - it's very clean and the pop of red keeps the modern furniture/look fun. There are tv's showing various sports matches, which I don't really care about (and it seems to me a bit generic, perhaps), but I can appreciate the fact that they want to give this place more of the cozy, gathering place feeling of a bar. It's smart to give it more of a "hang-out" vibe, compared to the (many) other burger places around town. I would come hang out here! USB ports at the tables so you can charge your devices? Genius! I had the Bork Burger with onion rings and it was all delicious. I really liked the bun - definitely not your run-of-the-mill frozen, grocery store bun here, which was refreshing. The service was also really good - the staff is friendly and attentive. The prices are a tad high but I don't mind paying a bit more for better quality ingredients and service (this is NOT McDonald's, people). Hey Krave, I like you guys. Great service, super helpful, clean and inviting atomosphere. I will be back to try the mac and cheese that everyones raving about! When I was in I got the veggie burger and the onion rings on the side. The positives: The onion rings are killer! Would love a dipping sauce with them, but they are amazing. Charging stations are a total plus. Love the selection process and customization for the burgers. This is always a plus at gourmet burger joints. My disappointment with the veggie burger was that I found the burger quite small for the price point. The veggie patty is delicious, a southern seasoned blend with black beans, sweet potatoes, corn, and lentils. I just wish there was more of the patty! I've bought bigger veggie patties at Costco. Tweak this for the veggie lovers and I'll be a regular! read more

Good burgers albeit pricey, with Rockbottom only a few steps away I'd prefer their burgers. I got the steakhouse burger and a poutine. Both were delicious but I was surprised the patty was rather small for a burger joint. The horseradish mayo was also pretty overpowering which isn't up my alley but I can see the appeal. We went to Krave Burger on a Tuesday night, pressed for time before heading to a concert. It was about 6:30. The restaurant was not busy at all. The Good Staff was friendly. The restaurant was clean, bright and modern. There is a dedication to locally sourced product, which sounds good to me. However, I am not exactly sure what that means here. Are we talking just local beef, or are we talking hormone, steroid, antibiotic free beef? I am thinking it's probably just local but maybe someone can clarify that. There was a nice creative burger menu with decent options. And I like that this is a burger restaurant that doesn't mind if someone wants a salad. They also have a mac & cheese menu so there are options for the non-burger eaters. Those who didn't want beef also have the option of chicken or veggie. We were tempted to try the Smoked Goat but went with the suggested Charity Burger - 10%of profits go to charity. The charity burger featured mushrooms, bacon, mozzarella and spicy mayo. It sounded good and I liked that they were doing something for charity so I went with it.. I made a combo with some regular fries and a drink. The Just Ok My burger and fries combo rang up at nearly $18. I found this quite expensive. If the quality of the ingredients lead to the higher price tag, well okay. I will pay for really good local ingredients. But I didn't really see anything here to justify the heftier price tag. It was decent, just not rave-worthy. There was definitely more than enough food. I wasn't looking for bigger portions. There was no lettuce or tomato - which I consider burger standards. The cook at the counter told us they could add it if we wanted it. I opted not to, because I thought it might make the burger too big with the mushrooms. I was expecting to see the mushrooms since they were a feature of the Charity Burger, but I had a hard time to find them. They must have been sliced extremely thin. And they were hidden under the cheese. Overall, not much of a mushroom flavour. The bacon was good. Nice and thick. The cheese was perfectly melty. But the burger itself, I found a little bland. I found myself adding ketchup about half way through. The fries also seemed a little bland and like maybe they had been sitting for just a little too long. My friend ordered the sweet potato fries. We did like the siracha mayo that came with them. And I think it was this mayo on the burger. I will definitely give this place another try - mostly due to the friendly cook at the counter. I like where this restaurant is going with their dedication to local. I went there based on the good reviews. But next time I will give the smoked goat a try. Keep in mind that this review is by a vegetarian so it is biased accordingly. This place is located 50 feet away from me but I've only gone once. Their vege-burger has an identity crisis. It's like a salad hamburger and I guess the use beans or lentils or something. Anyway, for me, the best vege-burger sadly in Halifax is still Harvey's. The fries and onion rings are decent but overpriced. I would give the place three stars if it weren't so expensive. The customer service was good. Again, for meat eaters, their hamburgers might be something to krave, but I just ended up wishing Harvey's was still on Spring Garden Road like back in the day. Decent food and nice atmosphere. Unnecessarily expensive for what they offer. Not very clean either. They really need to clean up on a daily basis. Their bathroom was gross at lunchtime before the lunch rush even began, which means it wasn't even cleaned since the night/day before. Tables amd chairs were stained and had food on them, walked out with more stains on my pants and back of my jacket than I realized. My wife and i both left satisfied but kind of icked out. I experienced awful customer service. The first time I went in I ordered an extra thick milkshake and a kind employee fulfilled my request. Unfortunately, I went back the next day and a grumpy, sarcastic, hostile and rude employee said that he does not know what an extra thick milkshake is and said that all their milkshakes are standard. Now that's just ridiculous! I kindly gave back my watery milkshake and asked for a thicker version and to my dismay he gave me back a new milkshake that was even more watery than before. So the food is great but the customer service was horrible. I'd never go back there again nor would I recommend this location to anyone. So go to any Krave Burger but this one. read more

I'd personally give here a 3.5. Tried it for lunch on a HOT Tuesday in June at noon b/c my friend and I wanted cold milkshakes. The place wasn't very busy when we walked in, maybe three tables taken out of the dozen or so there. Very friendly service from the guy at the counter and the second guy walking around. You get a numbered cardboard red sign that you put on your table and they bring the food to you. I tried the Buffalo Crispy Chicken Burger ($9.49 for the single crispy chicken tossed in hot sauce, topped with lettuce, tomato and garlic mayo) made into a combo with half fries/half rings and a peanut butter shake. My total came to $20 something after making it the combo and then extra for the shake, so not a cheap meal, but satisfying for sure. I love spicy and found the hot sauce had enough of a kick to make it spicy, but not too bad. The fries I considered pretty standard, the rings good in the A&W crunchy style. The shakes were great, creamy and thick. My friend had the Bacon Cheese burger and I tried a bite, then wished I had ordered that instead. My chicken one was good, but their beef is ground on site and very flavorful, juicy, etc. I'd definitely go back here anytime and would like to try everything on the menu to be honest. LOL read more

A bit pricey with meals at 15$ for a "burger + sides+drink" but it tastes much better than your average burger. I probably go here once a week on average because of my fave the smoking goat burger which has goat cheese on it. Note that they have a free toppings list when you order so add those if you want more than what's already on your burger. read more

SO fantastic. Very friendly staff, who patiently helped me decide what to order. I had the Krave Burger combo, and upgraded to the half fries/half rings on the side. The burger itself was very fresh, and one of the best burgers I have had. The sides were both excellent, and I really liked the onion rings. The seasoning on the rings was great. I like the service of having the food taken to me, and also not having to worry about clearing myself. I was checked in on very soon after receiving my food - not so early that I didn't yet have an opinion, but not so late that any problem couldn't have been addressed. It is a smaller than many other burgers, but they are going for quality, not quantity. IMO, they nailed it! read more

I have been looking for a decent burger place in Halifax ever since I moved and I found this place to be quite satisfying. I ordered the Krave burger with cheese with a side of poutine. The poutine was quite good. It is as good or even better than what you can get in Halifax. The burger was extremely satisfying in terms of taste. There are several choices of dipping sauces and Mayo that you can ask for on the burger or on the side. I asked for the Siracha mayo in the burger and I found that to be delicious! The bun was soft with a good crispy buttered flat side. The meat was extremely juice and tender which was incredible. They also added lettuce, tomato and sauteed onion. All in all it was very tasty. I would most likely get a second beef patty the next time I go just because I found the sandwich just a tad small. Nevertheless the quality of the food was awesome. The ambiance of the restaurant was quite nice. There is a bar area and regular tables. The tables by the wall are within range of wall in USB plugs which is really convenient for charging devices. They serve milkshakes which I didn't get to try as well as gluten-free and veggie options. The price was okay in my opinion, not expensive but you do pay for what you get. read more

What a fantastically refreshing restaurant. In the last couple years, gourmet burger restaurants have taken over the city, and so far this one has been the best I have visited. My first impressions as I walked in: very clean, chic, yet casual simple design and dinning area, friendly staff. The staff were fully able to help me decide what to order with my dietary needs and allergies in mind! I ended up choosing the staple Krave Burger. It was cooked beautifully and seasoned perfectly. I especially loved the special seasoning the use on the in house cut fries! The recharging stations for cellphones, PDAs, iPads, etc. made a great touch, I love the fact that I was able to re charge my phone during my lunch break. I recommend their milkshakes, one of the best for flavour variety in the city. Great place for a date, or dinner and a movie since park lane cineplex is just a few steps away! read more

It was awesome! Had Krave burger tonight for the first time. I'm going to be completely honest. It wasn't as good as it was hyped up to be. I mean don't get me wrong it was good. But sadly Cheese Curds is better. I had the double Krave burger with bacon and cheese. It was good but I found it fairly dry. I like grilled onion, but I think some crunchy white/yellow onions would be better suited. I would not get the poutine again. Maybe 5 or less cheese curds and very salty. I will try this place again. But when I come back I'll change up the burger toppings, try a milkshake and the onion rings. It would all be better if the prices were a tad more reasonable. See you next time. read more

They really hit the ball out of the park with this place. Great service, great prices, great burgers. Every detail was thought out, including quality beef that's ground on-site, a bright, comfortable atmosphere, the focus on local ingredients, and very welcoming staff. Krave is youthful, creative and fun. I was surprised by the negative comments about their prices and serving sizes! For around $35 we both had burgers, premium sides and a soda. Just a few dollars more than fast food for so much more! The servings were perfect. We were full but didn't waste a single delicious sweet potato fry. (If you want a pile of cheap frozen food, MacDonalds is right down the street.) If this is the future of small business in Halifax we are headed in the right direction. Best burger I had during burger week. I had the bacon jam burger. The perfect burger in my opinion, and onion rings and fries were delicious too! A little pricey, but well worth it. They are also licensed, which is a plus. It's very well decorated inside and they have charging stations which is a nice touch. It was super busy, (because it's so good I'm assuming) but the line moved fast and they bring your order to your table. read more

Went to the Krave on crazy Burger Week! It was so busy to the door with people none stop. We went with friends who had never tried Krave! I know hard to believe! You would think OK so crazy busy the food might not be as awesome as it always is! It was awesome! Our bacon cheese burgers and donair burgers were awesome! The onion rings were awesome and the milkshakes were awesome! On the busiest days for them their food is still awesome! That's says it all. The staff are always great there.Even on Burger week. FIRST AND LAST TIME! I was walking on Spring Garden Road today with my three children looking for a place to eat when my 10-year old son asked me for a hotdog on our way to the restaurant. When we passed in front of KRAVE BURGER, we all decided to give it a try. The restaurant has a fast-food format and you have to order at the counter before you seat. When I got in front of the cashier, he pointed his finger to my son and said: "SIR, WE DO NOT ALLOW CUSTOMERS TO BRING OUTSIDE FOOD INTO THIS RESTAURANT". I told him that my son did not want hamburgers and that the rest of us would buy food there. I also said that his comments were not welcoming at all. He replied with a loud voice: "IT'S NOT ABOUT WELCOMING YOU OR NOT, IT'S ABOUT THE RULES SET BY THE HOUSE!" We had to leave the place with a sarcastic: "YOU HAVE A GOOD DAY". This embarrassing situation taught me ONE RULE: If you have a group and not everyone wants to eat at KRAVE BURGUER, you better not even try to bring anything from outside. They have trained staff to enforce their rules in the most embarrassing way. I wish "the house" would teach its staff about the rules of RESPECT TO THE CUSTOMER. read more

Also, was not happy to be told that a substitution of similar products was the same price and then charged $2 on top of 3.49 for a grand total of $5.49 plus taxes for a handful of onion rings and watery fountain pop.
