I'd give them four stars for the actual rehab, one star for their billing practices. I'll round up to three stars because I had one physical therapist there that was really worth going there.
I've got an injury that needs help. I went to KORT because they have a good reputation, and I got a mixed bag, but mostly good, about the actual physical therapy.
One guy I saw was really, really good. He was on-the-spot with helping, gave a detailed and insightful analysis of the actual mechanics of my injuries, and explained how they'd work to fix them in the long term. I wish I'd been dealing with him all along.
The rest of my therapists were well meaning and friendly, but juggling treating me with someone else at the same time, and just putting me through the same old exercises and leaving me to them while they ran off to see other patients. I was left wondering how some of the exercises even helped since they were for the wrong part of the body than my injury.
However, they did a HORRIBLE job of communicating expectations about billing. I gave them my insurance card, they said I would be covered by my insurance for up to 80 visits in a calendar year. I went there for a couple of months, and had physical therapy weekly. They never asked for payment, or even told me anything would be due, just saying that "you're good" and they'd see me next week. Not at my initial assessment, nor at any other point, had anyone talked about costs, just saying that my insurance would cover physical therapy.
Then, after I'd been going there a couple of months, I get a bill. Hundreds of dollars. Apparently there was a large co-pay for each visit, that they never told me about. So, I paid the bill, but I stopped going. Yes, it was helping me, but I couldn't afford to pay hundreds of dollars a month to keep going there constantly, when they said it would be a long-term matter to get me back to my old self.
I begrudgingly paid the bill, only a few weeks later to get another bill, for another month of physical therapy, that was even larger.
I can't spend a week's pay on a month's physical therapy. Even with insurance going there is costing me around 1/4 of my after-tax take home pay. I'll pay the bill, but if they'd made the costs clear up front instead of just implying it was all covered by insurance, then I never would have gone and I would have tried to fix myself. read more
