This lovely little gallery is only a short hop from the National Museum and Gallery of Wales, Cardiff, and well worth a look if you are having an arty day in the area. Established in November 2004 by Rhian Kooy and Roger Wood, its aim was to support emerging talent as well as established artists. The exhibition space mixes regular solo and group exhibitions with a revolving display of new paintings, sculptures, ceramics and limited edition prints and lithographs.
The gallery exhibits a number of established painters and sculptors including the recent show by Ifor Pritchard (70) whose paintings focus on local slate quarries and 'claustrophobic' mining communities. The current show (until August 31, 2010) reveals new paintings by artists who have contributed to the success of the gallery since they opened, including Gareth Parry, Ifor Pritchard, Robert McPartland, Stephen John Owen, Frank Collict, Liam O'Connor, Andy Short, Matthew Snowden, Clive Burnell, Robin Boyd, Phil Parry, Audrey Johns, Shirley Ann Owen, Mark Samuel, Peter Winstanley, David Knight, James MacKeown and sculptures and ceramics by Helen Sinclair and John Blackwell.
