I had a wonderful time. My kitty of 15 years recently crossed the rainbow bridge, and since I was in New York, I needed some "cat therapy". It's $30 to spend an hour with the cats (a little bit less on Wednesdays,) and they take reservations. Be advised that if you cancel your reservation less than 48 hours in advance, you do not get a refund. I showed up as a walk-in on a Friday just before noon, and they were able to take me in. However, there are no guarantees, but you could always call in advance. There are three areas to interact with the cats, an upstairs, a downstairs, and also an outdoor " catio." The day I was there, the. Catio was closed because of the weather, but I still had plenty of great interaction time with the other two rooms. The cats come and go as they please, and they also have their own separate area from where you interact with them, so there's no guarantee on how many cats you will have to interact with. The day I was there, there was not a large number of cats, but there was enough that I had some good times. They do not let you pick up the cats, but if the cat wants to jump up on you, that's more than fine. They provide toys to play with the cats, and in addition, I also downloaded a "cat toy" on my iPhone, that had things such as mice, and fish going across the screen. A few of the cats, found it fascinating, and we had a great time. The cats here are older kittys, so you may not get the energy of a kitten, but you will still have a wonderful time interacting with them. For anyone who is earning to pet some cute kittens, definitely check out Koneko and be wowed. To visit, you just make a reservation before hand, and it normally last for 1 hour. There is an outer cafe section, which is just like any coffee shop with a variety of drink options, but only cuter. The inner section is separated for kitten petting sessions only. When you come in to the inner session, someone will help you to hang you coat, and store your shoes and bags. They also ask you to sanitize your hands. Wonderful wonderful wonderful. This is a Japanese-inspired cafe in the front with the cattery in the back. We made a reservation for the cattery at 11am and arrived a bit early to have breakfast. The cafe has super cute cat decor and a mix of Western pastries and Japanese snacks. We ordered Belgian waffles with fruit, a few pastries, and gyoza, as well as pretty typical coffees and teas. Everything was tasty. For the cattery, you swap your shoes for their slippers and leave your belongings by the entrance, but you can take your drinks in. There's an upper level and a lower level, as well as an outdoor catio. The cats were sooooo lovely. The attendant told us their names and answered our questions about the types of cats they were. They are rescue cats. Some are shy. I thought there would be more but I think they were adopted, so that's a good thing. You must remove shoes prior to entry. Use hand sanitizer. The cats are all adorable and very personable and the woman overseeing us was very informative on the history of the cafe and the process of the cats finding homes. I went for their halloween event last night and left disappointed. First, the drinks were extremely overpriced, the man who was giving out free sake tastings was extremely rude. Regarding the cat time, it was honestly just sad. The cats are rescues from shelters which explains their behavior but it just felt so exploitative. Almost all of the cats were visibly scared and kept hiding, fighting each other, attacking humans if they just tried to pet them, and overall extremely skittish. The human to cat ratio was overbearing and from what I saw, no one had any true one on one time with the cats. It gave me the same vibe as a zoo, just sad exploitation of uncomfortable scared animals. Would not recommend if you are empathetic. I love cats but don't own any pets, so I was looking forward to being able to relax and pet some kitties. We opted for the happy hour experience, which includes a drink. The cats were adorable, but most of them were sleepy and not in the mood to play. When the cat room is fully booked (which I assume it was when we were there), it can be hard to find a comfortable seat or a cat to give your attention to. I love cats. I am a proud cat lady! Of course I have to visit a cat cafe in NYC after learning about it from my sister. So originally I thought this was a traditional cat cafe where you can dine & drink in the same room as the cats and play with them when appropriate. Your food purchase would count as your ticket to see the cat. This place functions a little different. The front of the store is the cafe which looks like a coffee shop and they have a good selection of food and drinks. At the back of the store, is a section of spaces reserved for the cats. To enter that area you would have to purchase entrance tickets ($20), with no requirements to buy food. One ticket grants you 1 hr of cat playtime. It made me happy seeing how comfortable and nicely taken care of these cats are! They take naps with their belly exposed. This place provides enough space for cats to freely roam around - 2 indoor spaces and 1 outdoor spaces. (And I think there are separate sections for the litter boxes that's not visible to public) Some cats might be more sensitive than the others so pick your choices carefully when approaching to pet them. I had a lot of fun visiting the cats although most of them aren't very interactive! I still highly recommend for a therapeutic cat session. read more

This is a nice cat Cafe a bit of a walk from Chinatown. The cat room at the back have three levels, with the middle level being an open air catio. Most of the kitties enjoy being pet and are very mellow, which makes me wonder if they only screen certain cats to be placed in the cafe. We came at 11am and all the cats are lounging around or sleeping and they seem comfortable with people and aren't afraid when people approach. I had a lot of fun at this cat cafe and met so many cute kitties. The price is higher than other cat cafes around the country, but it is NYC. There's an upper and lower level and most of the cats were on the lower level when I was there because their living space is in the basement area. The outdoor patio was closed, but this is one of the only cat cafes I've seen with an outdoor space for the cats, which is nice. The cats were not in the most friendly mood when I was there, but that's fine since they are cats. It was funny to see how much they loved the cat TV when the staff turned that on. Came here specifically for the kitties and I've been to one other kitty cafe and this was a bit different. The space for the kitty cafe was split between an upper and lower room which weren't that large. When I arrived most of the kitties were napping, so...took a few for some to wake up. Sirena was a young kitten and I just so happened to get a toy that she loved, so I got to spend most of my time playing with her. The number of people in the kitty section vs cats seemed to be skewed and most people didn't get to interact with the cats. I believe all of them were open for adoption and if I didn't already have a fur baby, Sirena would have come home with me. On vacation, you always start to miss your feline companions, so we decided to fill the void with a visit to some other cats. When you walk into the café, it's divided into 2 parts: the café and the cat playground. Anyone can come to the café for a drink and a treat and watch the cats through the glass. Booking a half hour visiting session with the kitties requires a reservation. You can bring your drinks into the cat room, but not food. When it's your turn, you go through a staging room where you're read, the rules (no picking up cats, etc.) and take off your your shoes. Then you're welcomed into 2 levels and 2 rooms of kitties!! There are some cats who are a little skittish and don't want to be petted, but for the most part the cats were friendly and ready to play. I would definitely go back. Had a great experience at Koneko Cat Cafe. We did a one hour visit with the cats (which we had reserved in advance) and had snacks and coffee in the cafe before and afterwards. There were about a dozen cats during out visit and they were spread out over three areas. Some of the cats interacted with the people while others stayed quiet or were sleeping. The snacks in the cafe were yummy (the okonomiyaki and the chocolate cake were terrific) and the latte was solid. The staff was also extremely friendly and helpful. Such a cute, well-decorated cat cafe with adorable cats! I came here in the afternoon (around 1 PM) and expected the cats to be exhausted and unwilling to interact with us. While some of the cats slept, 80% of them were playful at some point and they were all SO cute. Even more heartwarming that these cats come from shelters and are available to adopt. The staff member working there was incredibly friendly and informative. When she noticed some people were just sitting there, she would go to the back to find a certain cat's favorite toy so they could play with that cat. Super thoughtful! The space itself is also super cute -- 2 indoor cat rooms and one outdoor patio and the cats roam in between. There's also absolutely no smell, which was fantastic. The cafe section of Koneko (which means "kitten" in Japanese) cat cafe is clean, relaxed and comfortable with a wide range of beverages and Japanese pastries/snacks if you just want a place to rest somewhere after walking around the gritty streets of the LES. The baristas were super chill and friendly, easy to talk to if you truly love coffee, tea or cats! I was early for my $25 12pm cat visit but they checked me in and I bought a cup of mint tea. I only had to wait about 5 minutes before a man gestured me into the glass door at the back of the cafe, showed me where to park my bag and shoes before I entered a 2nd glass door into the cat area. This street-level "upstairs" cat area adjoins a cat-tio patio area which was closed due to rain (Tropical Ophelia remnants). As a result, all the other cat cafe visitors were squished into the room trying to get their hands on a cat to pet. I wandered downstairs to the basement level and found myself alone with 3-4 sleepy cats. A staff person sat quietly in a chair on the perimeter. She went back into a staff area to retrieve more cats, enticing them into the room with treats. It was so relaxing to just sit and play "catch the string" with a lazy kitten. Then a couple of other people discovered the sanctuary, followed by even more people who loudly entered the room. The room started to smell stuffy. Like stale smelly socks (remember it was a rainy day). If you know cats, you know cats strangely seem to like the smell of stale smelly socks - the cat I was playing with suddenly left me to rub itself against a guy's smelly feet. Not my feet since I am fastidious about foot hygiene and clean socks. I was already irritated because I had been seated on the ground petting the cat when the said guy invaded my personal space and almost sat on my cup of tea. It just got too crowded so I went back upstairs and left the cats before my hour was up. But it was enough for me. I had sufficient cat cuteness to brighten up my day. Also in my particular logic, if I pet a cat that was rubbing against a stranger's smelly feet just minutes before, wouldn't it be just like I was petting that person's smelly feet? Next time I'll try to visit on a sunny day and hope other visitors will be wearing clean socks. read more

I liked the layout of the space- there was an upstairs and downstairs area as well as a patio that was closed because it was cold. The rooms were also pretty cold so dress warm! We didn't get to try anything from the cafe, since we had dinner plans after, but we had lots of fun playing with kitties! The cat portion has three floors. They charge $20 per hour to be in an overcrowded space with an outdoor area and don't even give you the mass amount of slippers they have sitting in the shoe cubby. They let children in as young as 3 which makes the cats tired and exhausted so even coming around 11AM the cats were hiding/sleeping and perching up high to get away from people. Or, the cats were basically actively ignoring everyone who tried to interact with them and were looking at birds instead. When I emailed them inquiring about an adoption because their website has no info, I got no response. Meanwhile, I went to Meow Parlour the next day and adopted a new kitten within a week.
