It is made with a buttery hazelnut crust and currants. Not raspberries like I have always seen on the knock-offs. (Although admittedly, those are pretty good too....no harm, no foul......they just aren't really what linzer tortes really are.) Anyhow, it's a busy little shop and we had a private section upstairs to enjoy our coffee. Our guide told us to put the little chocolate in the coffee too. Even though I usually like my coffee black, I obliged. When in Rome..... My only regret is not buying one to take home with me. I heard they travel and keep very well.

Centrally located not far from the town center (Stadtplatz) in the pedestrian shopping thoroughfare Schmidtgasse. One side is the cafe/bakery side and next door is more of a bar and cigs atmosphere. So while my Dad is receiving treatment for cancer at the hospital, the hubs and I had to swing by for some coffee and cake! This place will always hold a special place in my heart. The pastries are all prepared fresh daily! They open at 8:30 so you can come by for a great breakfast of meat and bread/rolls or you can skip straight to a piece of Sacher or a cream Schnitte! Their prices are reasonable, especially considering it's location in a very popular part of old town Wels. The staff is friendly and more than willing to assist us with our broken German and their really good English so that's a huge plus! They are attached to the chill bar next door so if you need an early morning glass of wine with your cappuccino, you can get that here too!
