Globus is as close as you can get to an American-style grocery store. Actually, it's more like a Wal Mart, although the merchandise section is smaller, which it makes up for with a better grocery store selection. It has the cheapest prices around for groceries, so do yourself a favor and buy here if you want to save money.
Eat in the cafeteria if you're looking for a cheap meal. Granted, cafeteria-style food is never the best, but eating out on vacation can really break the bank. Their entrees are very reasonable, and some are a downright killer value. The best is the cheese tortellini with your choice of sauce. I think it's around 7 Euros and the serving is huge.
Having grown up in Bad Orb, I am in love with Lerberkäsebrötchen. Leberkäse is a type of meat load, literally meaning "liver cheese" - although it contains neither liver nor cheese. It's pork, beef, bacon, onions, and spices which are turned into an emulsion, and them steam-backed until it's cooked through. The standard way to eat it is warm on a fresh, crispy Brötchen (roll). These go for ONE EURO here, and the slice of Leberkäse is like 3/4" thick. I swear it weighs one pound. You can feed a family of four for about 5 Euros. Sitting back here in Texas, I'm salivating just thinking about it...
