I got the classics: short rib taco ($4) and blackjack quesadilla ($12). The taco is gloriously overflowing with meat and toppings - even the double tortilla is insufficient to keep it under control. I hadn't tried the quesadilla before and I couldn't believe I had gone this long without it. They make it quite large, filling it with spicy pork and melty cheese. My advice: order as much as you can, then go to town, making liberal use of the forks and napkins they provide. And enjoy! read more

My fiancé and I learned about this food truck not too long ago and finally had a chance to have one of their tacos. We were driving at night trying to find it so it was a little difficult to see the food truck at first, but we eventually found it. We parked, placed our order and then waited for our food to be made. No long line or long wait time for the food. The short rid tacos are the real deal. I could eat that for days. Even after driving home, the short ribs taco packed a lot of flavor. The chicken taco was okay. Again - I think it can be hard to judge food that you can't eat immediately from the restaurant or food truck. Eating here was a spicy flavor party in my mouth! Everything was so good. I got the kimchi quesadilla. Loved the sauce and seasoning on top. Kimchi was very good. Just delicious. The chicken taco was also excellent. Very filling for such a small package. Loved the cabbage and flavoring on it as well. Service was pretty quick, which was nice. Full disclosure, I came here looking for Roy Choi's new venture - Tacos Por Vida. It wasn't open because they had a soft opening and will re-open at a later date. No biggie. I was hungry so I stayed and ordered from the truck. I went to the brick and mortar a few times when it was open across the street as well. If you don't know by now, the Kogi trucks started a little over a decade ago and was fusion of Korean and Mexican flavors in classic taco truck items. On this particular trip, I ended up getting the Tofu Kogi burrito. I was trying to chill on the meat eating. Definitely tasty and with the Korean flavors really coming through on this. During my previous visits (in the Kogi Taqueria), I've had the sliders, kimchi quesadilla, World Famous Short Rib Burrito, Blue Moon Mulita, and carnitas taqueria style taco. All were pretty tasty, but my favorite item has to be the short rib burrito. The service was pretty standard in terms of taco trucks (in a good way). The chicken was flavorful but the toppings felt kind of basic compared to what I was hoping for. Service was quick and the staff was friendly, which I appreciated. However, we absolutely loved the Sweet Chili Chicken Quesadilla. The crispy wrap paired with the flavorful dipping sauce was amazing! Allen was pretty full from it for a few hours. I had 2 tacos and it felt like a chore to finish them...the salad dressing was wayyyy too strong, I couldn't even taste the short rib. Gotta love your LA fusions. This place is Korean/Mexican and they do an excellent job of merging two cuisines that one would not think would mesh well together into a lovely marriage of flavors. I had the kimchi quesadilla and it was a true chef's kiss. For just under $9 I received a large, steaming quesadilla filled with melty cheese and wonderfully favored kimchi. I used to love kogi, especially the blackjack quesadillas but for some reason it hasn't been the same. I recently ordered one and it was just too salty, I was only able to eat one piece of it. And this isn't usually a problem for me but there was just TOO much pork, it became too overwhelming since it wasn't balanced well with the onions and cheese. The sauce (which I'm usually a HUGE fan of) was also super salty so dipping the quesadilla into it wasn't really a solution. My friend and I came here prior to drinks at the Blind Barber, and ate our food in the car. If you do this, you may want to eat with the windows down since the smell is pretty strong. I got the loaded fries while my friend got the combo of tacos and a drink (no alcohol available. They have waters and sodas). The portions were generous and there was plenty of meat. The food here is absolutely amazing. The tacos cannot be beat for the price, and are guaranteed to blow your mind. Short Rib & Spicy Pork tacos are my favorite. Love to add kimchi as well. It's a food truck so there's not much to say about ambiance. Absolutely would recommend eating in the car or on your tailgate, while it's still hot. 4 stars because service can be pretty slow, there were 3 people waiting for their orders when we walked up around 10pm and it took about 5-10 minutes for someone to take our order. I just realized I've never reviewed one of the gems of my beloved Palms, our semi-permanent Kogi truck. Kogi helped kick off the food truck craze years ago with Chef Roy Choi's famous Korean inspired tacos and burritos. They opened a small restaurant on Overland at one point (you can see pics in some of the older reviews) but that has since closed, and now the truck itself can be found daily in the driveway of another building a block away. It's one of my go to weekend lunch spots! I almost always get tacos or a burrito, but I need to branch out and try their mulitas and quesadillas. The famous Kogi style taco has meat (short rib is their claim to fame) or tofu and is topped with a mountain of sweet and tangy lettuce-cabbage slaw. I love Korean flavors and their tacos always hit the spot. Recently, Chef Roy opened a more traditional street taco stand at night next to the truck, called Tacos Por Vida. I haven't eaten there yet since lines were wrapping around the block when he opened! Can't wait to try it soon, though. read more

This Kogi truck is located on Overland near De Leon Tailor Shop. It's my favorite informal dining experience in this area! The price is reasonable and comparable to other restaurants in the area and the flavor has never let us down. The menu is the perfect length of variety but not too much to overwhelm you. Remember that the later the day the longer the wait, but they move quickly with fulfilling orders. I highly suggest you try the short rib burritos ($8)- they're so full of flavor and each bite leaves you wanting more! Overall it was great. We got the 3 taco combo each and got the short rib taco along with spicy pork. They were all very good although I'm not a fan of cilantro the meat on the tacos were good. The wait wasn't super long we waited around I think maybe 10 minutes with a group in front of us. There is no seating that we could see in the area so we took our food back to our hotel. If I could eat that for the rest of my life, I would be completely content with my choice :) This was my first time eating at Kogi, and I was honestly confused with the parking situation. Do not pull into the small drive way where the food truck is parked. Park on the streets right in front of the food truck for easy "in and out" from this place. Now with a much convenient location and wait, this taco truck still dispenses blasts of delicious Korean and Mexican fusion food. Chef Roy Choi sure knows how to play across cultures and mash-up the flavors that work well together, and sweet sauce that marinates the short ribs blend well with the heavenly grilled flavors that's tasty all wrapped up for easy eating. Hubbers and I intended to go to another eatery, but we were a tad bit too early (they weren't open yet) so we decided to walk around. That is how we found this truck and since I was familiar with its name and reputation, we decided to get our "starters" of some sort here. The only thing I was curious about is their calamari tacos. Hubbers wanted that, too, so combo #1 (3 tacos and $2 drink for $9) was perfect. It was a bit of a wait, but it was no wonder: there were plenty of phoned-in/pick up orders. One lady came through and picked up 5 full bags worth of food. Another with 3. So, yeah, they're already busy at opening hour. The wait was worth it, though. They did not skimp in the amount of protein in each of the tacos. There weren't any fillers on my calamari tacos. The sauce was salty and sweet and perfect amount of heat. The calamari were cooked in perfect tenderness. I really liked it. Hubbers let me have a couple of bites of his spare rib tacos. There's a reason why this is one of their signature meats, it is out of bounds! The meat was tender and juicy and seasoned so well. I was impressed! FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 3. VALUE: 2. Hubbers and I discussed it after we ate and I wondered why he was charged $11 for the $9 combo. It didn't dawn on him until after he looked at his receipt which was after we left. Naturally, the overall cost was more with tip. No too thrilled about that. PARKING: N/A. It's a food truck, so street parking is the only option. OVERALL: 3.25 I suppose we need to double check our receipt if there were ever a next time. Overall good run, I must say. This is a frequent favorite treat for my husband and I, but when we went today we were extremely disappointed and unlikely to ever return. The truck isn't the one that's usually there. The guy working was rude. He let us know that pacman options were no longer available. My blackjack Quesadilla was not like it usually is. Everything was severely lacking.
