Well if you are the type of person who's favorite LOTR character is Legolas, or CW's Arrow is YOUR show, or even if Katniss Everdeen is your life peg. I'm pretty sure you think archery is pretty damn cool and it's something you've always wanted to try. Hidden away in the basement level of Makati Cinema Square you will find Kondanda Archery Range, where you can do just that. Definitely a fun activity to do with friends or even a nice unique date idea if you are looking to try something new. You get an hour of as many arrows as you can shoot! They hook you up with the equipment (bow, arrow, target, arm guard, etc.) and an instructor to help you out with the basic techniques and stuff. Then they just let you fire away and have as much fun as you can! I've already gone like three times this year. Oh man, I felt like the real life Katniss! Except I would forsure die, because I take way too long re-loading my arrow lol. The bows are dummy proof making it super easy to line up your arrow with appropriate markers. The instructor explained everything quite thoroughly and gave great advice for good stance and form. I was a bit confused on how many whistles meant what, but after a round or two you get the gist. It's a bit of a pain to have to keep re-racking your bow, but it makes sense as it's a safety issue. I will say that I think I got worse the longer we were there haha. After 30-40 minutes my arms also did cramp up a bit, but I'm terribly out of shape so that could just be me. My only gripe is that they kept playing slow jams which really doesn't jive with archery. It'd be cool if they played something more upbeat as if we were in an action movie or something. Then I could really get into character! In all I would definitely come back. Never thought I could live out my dream of becoming the next Katniss Everdeen right here in the city, and then I found this place. Okay, I didn't actually find it myself. Kodanda (Sanskrit for "he who has the bow") was the first stop on our honors class field trip in senior year because archery is a great way to see math and physics in action (proud nerd alert!). We may have discussed the basic concepts of the sport in our lectures, but man, it was so much more difficult to keep the theoretical stuff in mind when I was the one up to take the shot! Good thing the expert instructors were really patient when it came to teaching us how to properly load an arrow, angle the bow, and stay focused on the target. Even though I didn't hit the bullseye, the experience of learning a new sport was still incredible! But maybe I won't volunteer as tribute until I shoot a little straighter... read more

What a fun experience! I've never shot an arrow until I visited this place, It was a tiny bit hard to find but the staff were super helpful and friendly, they have a set of rules that prevent anyone from getting hurt while keeping it fun. The equipment is well maintained too, If I did have one complaint though is that they have only one comfort room, which makes a pretty bad experience for the next person if someone makes a mess. read more

Oh yes, you know you want to try this out and unleash your inner Katniss/Legolas/Hawkeye/Oliver Queen. Kodanda Archery Range teaches you the basics of archery and gives you about an hour-long lesson. They'll equip you with a practice bow, a quiver of plastic arrows and arm guards so that the bowstring doesn't hit your arm. You'll get a personal instructor, who'll show you how to stand, nock the arrow, draw, and shoot. Anyone can try archery at Kodanda, and you don't have to have prior background. Once you get the hang of it, the coaches will push the target back a few feet to give you a bit more of a challenge or give you a smaller target. You can keep the target paper at the end of your session, so that you can proudly show off your bullseye to your friends or keep it to record your progress and accuracy. I felt like I was unleashing my inner Katniss Everdeen (Well, I never hit the bullseye, but still). The rates are pretty reasonable at P550 per hour with unlimited arrows; they provide complete safety gear including an arm guard, a finger tab, a chest guard, a quiver and of course, the bow. For an additional P30, you can opt to bring home the target paper( Which I guess depends on how good your archery skills are). When we arrived there seemed to be many people, but we didn't have to wait that long. After we were strapped into our gear, the instructor gave us the basic archery know-how as well as some tips to hit as close to the bullseye as possible. After a few shaky rounds, I more or less got the hang of it, and really started to enjoy myself. My friend seemed to be a natural, and got much closer to the bullseye than I did; it didn't matter though, because I was just glad to be trying out something new.
