We had an incredible dinner at Knife back in November and still haven't been able to finish writing the review until today. We had our reservations for 9:30pm because we were coming in from a show. Thankfully they were able to seat us earlier than our time. One of my biggest highlights of the night aside from the food, ambience, and the service was seeing Chef John Tesar. I did not want to disturb him while he was interacting with other guests but I was elated to just be in the room while he was there LOL. The steak was amazing and the mashed potatoes were divine. The other sides were good but not too memorable. The steak was actually the absolute highlight of the evening. It was very nice of them to bring out a cake for our celebration. I was very impressed with the service and can't wait to return if I am back in the Dallas area to try out the rest of the menu.

Came here for an evening with some friends and we were seated at a booth in the far corner. Great serveice great ambiance albeit being at a hotel just around the lobby. This had exceptional steak with a good ambience to boot as well as great service, and a great wine list. I enjoyed particularly the steak and the high-quality of the meat as well as the accompaniments. In particular the steak was dry aged, and had a marbling as well as a very smoky taste to it. The cooking temperature was perfect. This was a very enjoyable experience. The tour if the meat cellar was educational I highly recommend this place

Knife is our favorite steakhouse in Dallas. It is a high price point but everything we have ordered has been incredible. What I love about Knife is how special I feel. I love the little after dinner treats that they serve with the knife mint and I also appreciate the pastry that they send to go to enjoy the next morning. This is the kind of place that I continue to tell all my friends about.

Ugh this was a very underwhelming meal. The interior is so beautiful and magnificent my expectations were so high. Our private room was so stately and spacious and even had a private lounge leading into it. But the food is just awful. The Caesar salads were tasteless (and I really can't remember ever having a Caesar salad I didn't like), the desserts were so odd and basically inedible. My pasta was alright, nothing to write home about. The steaks were meh. My friend's fish was decent at least

I've been to the Knife location in Plano on a couple of occasions and they've always been great! I wanted to try out this location because I absolutely love John Tesar and have even purchased his cookbook. The night started off great with wonderful drinks from the bar. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and we asked a few questions about the offerings. We ordered 45 day aged steak and wet aged bone in ribeye. We had roasted okra, Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes. All the sides were cooked well and were full of flavor. Unfortunately my steak was over cooked. I ordered medium rare and it came out more medium well. I thought maybe he didn't hear me well so I didn't say anything. But it was not only over cooked, it was full of gristle which made it so hard to eat. I wish I would have stuck with a regular steak and not the wet aged, because it might have tasted better or been easier to chew. The dessert were delicious and I always enjoy the special free items we get take home.

Really good food located inside a hotel. Not cheap by any means. But it's what you'd expect from a "Chef's restaurant" that is located in a busy area inside a Hilton. Drink menu is unique but overly priced. Steak was prefect!

Had to give this place a try after the article came out naming is one of the best in the county. Came on a weeknight and had no problem, surprisingly, getting a pretty last minute reservation for a party of 5. Our server was excellent. He gave plenty of recommendations and made it fun and entertaining to explore the menu options. Okay listen, some people obsess over bacon. They put it on everything and insist it's the worlds greatest creation. I, however, am not one of said people. I enjoy some good bacon with breakfast or occasionally a blt or a bacon burger, but that's about it. All that said, THE BACON FLIGHT HERE CONSISTS OF SOME OF, IF NOT THE, BEST BACON I'VE EVER HAD. Each of the flavors was uniquely delicious, and honestly it's tough to pick a favorite. I'll go with the cherry smoked, I suppose. Then let's talk about the bacon jam. I would spread some of this stuff on the floor and lick it off (I wouldn't). It's that good. If I wasn't traveling I would've bought a jar or 12. Next time, I will be purchasing some. Anyway, enough about the bacon. We got a couple steaks that we shared around the table, including one of the dry aged ones the server recommended. We got some from "old school" and some from "new school". All were good, but I wasn't blown away the way I would've expected to be at a steakhouse with this reputation and national ranking. We had a variety of sides as well, all of which were good. I also had a strawberry dessert with I believe white chocolate, which was really unique and absolutely delicious. I'll be making my way back here, if nothing else, for the bacon!

New school Grilled Big Short Rib
Vania B.

Definitely a "treat yourself" restaurant because it's expensive but good for a special night out. The "new school" short rib was my favorite. The meat was so soft and melted in my mouth. Others in my party got the "new school" ribeye which I thought was chewy, but my group said the texture was fine. The sides were just average for a fine dining restaurant. We didn't order the bacon tasting this time because we came here years ago and remembered it being underwhelming and hard to tell the difference in flavors. Overall, the short rib was amazing but I felt the other meats and sides were simply ok. I would only come back for the fancy ambiance on a special night.

Knife is in the Highland by Hilton hotel where I stay from time to time. First time I ordered their specialty, Bone in Dry Aged 44 Farms Ribeye (45 days). It was epic. Collards and frenchies on the side. Started with yellowtail sashimi as appetizer. Enjoyed this feast at the bar with my son. We were so impressed with the service and how knowledgeable the bartenders were about the entire menu. They taught us a lot about the dry age process and how unique it is. Drink wise Knife is on point. We enjoyed some cocktails and I had an excellent Argentine Malbec to wash down the beef. Enjoy!

Truffle pasta, green beans, "wild mushrooms"
Laura M.

Not a place to go if you're a foodie. Or vegetarian or vegan. The place looks modern and sleek but the food has an old school mom and pop steakhouse vibe. The waiter said he was dropping off garlic bread, but it was just bread. The service was attentive. I explained several times I was still eating the complimentary vegetable crudités, the waiters tried taking it away (sometimes, as I was reaching for more) four times. Ordered the salad, pasta and sides, everything was saturated in butter and over salted. The truffle pasta was undercooked and the truffles looked like shredded cardboard I couldn't taste the truffle. The "wild mushrooms" were shitaki and cremini. Mushrooms you can find in any grocery store. All of the food was less than mediocre. Obviously I didn't order a steak or any meat. Don't go here if you're looking for good food. That being said, there were several groups of eligible bachelors dining here if you are a single lady.

David S.

Yes, this restaurant is attached to a hotel, but let me tell you they make one of the best burgers in all of Dallas, called the Ozersky. It's simple, it doesn't look fancy but the taste is great! Seasoned well and it comes with cilantro fries, which are cooked perfectly. They are now open for lunch again. Covid really did them in, but they are BACK!

Roasted Heirloom Carrots, Creamed Spinach & Roasted Shallots, Pommes Pure, 90 Day Dry Aged Bone-In Rib Eye 32 oz
Chris H.

My go to steak place in Dallas. Their dry aged is amazing and the sides match in quality. I love the creamed spinach and potatoes au gratin. Solid wine list or cocktail like an old fashioned if that's your bent.

We love this place! Our go to restaurant when staying at The Highlands Hotel. Extremely chilly day - tomato soup and chamomile tea with honey, perfect for a day like today....

Are kids allowed? I want to take my wife for her Bday and we have an 8 and a 1 year old

Yes, but there is no kids' menu.

Do they still allow for half orders on all their pasta dishes?

Yes; upon request.

Does Knife offer creek stone beef options?

Not sure.

Is the meat creekstone?

No.

What's the ambiance like at lunch? Is it more casual--would jeans be out of place for a group coming from a casual office environment?

I think jeans would be fine at lunch. I saw people in jeans when I was there for dinner, and they did not look out of place.

How much are the entrees approximately?

Appetizers and salads around $15-$25, entry level steaks $20-$35, dry-aged cuts $35-$60, Pastas $20-$30, and the premium dry-aged steaks are $100-$200. If you want to splurge I highly suggest the 240-day dry-aged cut, Ox Tail Ravioli, and the Bacon… Read more

Is this a good place I can take my 14 year old son?

Eh...the food overall is great but it's more of an upscale, sophisticated, mature crowd. Wouldn't be my first choice to take a young teen.

I loved seeing the steaks and oysters beautifully displayed, and the open kitchen was such a nice touch -- watching the chefs in action added to the whole experience. Our waiter was phenomenal -- super accommodating, attentive, and made us feel like VIPs all night. We shared the cowboy steak ($72) sliced for two and WOW... perfectly cooked, juicy, and packed with flavor. Every bite was a moment. The sides to choose from ranged between $16-$18 We ordered the creamed spinach and it was rich and delicious. The wedge salad was fresh and satisfying. The corn brûlée? A crowd favorite -- everyone at the table was obsessed! The only miss for us was the mac and cheese -- good texture, but it didn't leave a lasting flavor impression. What truly made the night special was the energy -- the experience felt personal, warm, and inviting, making it the perfect place to celebrate my sister's 30th birthday. Wicked Butcher didn't just serve a meal... they created a memory. 10/10 would recommend for celebrations, date nights, or when you just want to feel fancy and fed.

Food - 4 Service - 3…read more Ambiance -4 Went on a Tuesday night while visiting from out of town and decided to give this place a try. The restaurant was practically empty, so we sat in the bar/lounge area. The host and other staff were friendly. Our waiter came off a little smug at first and barely cracked a smile. He honestly seemed a bit annoyed that he had to wait on us, which felt very unfriendly. My friend managed to get him to loosen up a bit as the night went on though, so maybe that's just his personality. To his credit, he was very informative when it came to the main course options. The lighting was dim and intimate. Ambiance was simple and modern. I ordered the sea bass and my friend ordered the beef Wellington. Honestly, after tasting my fish, he ended up enjoying my sea bass more than his own dish. The sea bass was like butter, just as the waiter described it. If fish could fall off the bone, this one would have. It came with rice, cashews, and a ginger miso sauce. The cashews added a really nice crunch and texture and the flavors worked really well together. I thoroughly enjoyed it as b the only downside was the portion size. Like a lot of nicer restaurants, you get one small piece of fish... about the size of my pinky finger. My friend's beef Wellington, on the other hand, was just okay. He didn't say it was bad, but it definitely didn't stand out, especially compared to the sea bass. We also ordered potatoes as a side and the white truffle Caesar salad. The salad was good and the truffle flavor wasn't overpowering, which I appreciated. The potatoes were solid too and paired well with the meal. Dessert, unfortunately, was not it! We ordered the Wicked Sundae. Our waiter had actually recommended the banana pudding or the chocolate tart, but we decided to try something else. We probably should've taken his advice. The sundae tasted mostly like ice cream and was missing the main part of the dish -- the brownie. Nothing to run home about, and it also happened to be the most expensive dessert on the menu. Definitely not worth it.

Thankfully, that is NOT the experience I had at Haywire! I ate here on August 9th, 2025 and enjoyed everything about it. I was with a large party but would love to return for a more intimate experience. On this Saturday, my younger cousin was graduating from Parker University so I was in town for the weekend. At around 1pm, I was one of the first to arrive at the restaurant. Unfortunately the parking is a bit confusing. There was construction being done on the same street when I went but there's a parking garage for customers that's difficult to navigate AND the elevator that connects wasn't operating at the time which was an issue for many (but not me, I got a good spot & walked). My party hadn't all arrived yet so I took a gander. Upon entering the tall doors, the space breathes southwestern elegance: wooden structure, leather seating, separate dining areas with highlighted ranch-style art. The abundance of space gives it an open-concept feel. The lighting fixtures are modern, the space was dim but not too low, with an option to utilize the large windows also. I was quiet impressed at the overall presentation. When my party did arrive, I wanted to keep it simple so I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad and a Hibiscus Haze with Vodka. The table shmoozed as we ate some of the appetizers: the Crab Dip & Green Tomatoes, both amazing. The food did take some time but, considering it was 10-12 of us, that's expected. The Hibiscus Haze was splendid: smooth & flavorful, a great concoction. Cobb salads are usually pretty thick but this one was HEARTY. It came in a large bowl stuffed with the all the toppings. The dressing it was tossed with was well balanced but could've used a tad bit more. With some pepper & a little ranch, I was set! I defeated the salad but it also left me stuffed to the gills. Satisfying meal that I would order again! There are tons of restaurants to dine at in Dallas & sometimes you never know which is worth your time. Despite the inconvenience of parking, I'd bet my bottom dollar that this is a good place to eat. Whether you want a fine dining experience, it's a special occasion or just want a good drink with a meal, Haywire has enough to satisfy all interests.

We were asked to wait. Waited maybe 5-10mins. No biggie, A lot of open tables were available for immediate sit down. Again that wasn't a big deal. I had asked for a booth & wanted to sit in front room. The hostess said no a problem. She handed us off to a younger hostess and she took us to a table. I told her I had requested a booth. In the front room only 3 tables were occupied. I pointed out the booth and she said that's for party of 6. However, we could have the 1/2 table/booth. Made absolutely no sense because that was for a party of 6 as well. I made this comment & she just stared at me without saying a word. I didn't want to seem difficult and took the table as she just walked away. Kev was confused as we were. No good communication skills. It was an awkward encounter. The restaurant wasn't busy at all & never was whole time there. Kev wasn't sure why she didn't move us a requested & was puzzled himself. However i apologized to him & explained I wasn't trying to be difficult, but prefer booth sitting and most times we will wait for one. We left at 1:45p and restaurant was no busier than when we arrived. Reservation/Booth or not! I guess saying all of this, your front staff need to have more people skills when dealing with your customers. They are the face and first point of contact. Again Kev was amazing & food was outstanding!

Pricey poisoning nightmare!…read more What was supposed to be a fancy celebratory night out ($725 with tip) at Drake's for my MIL's birthday ended with one of our family members in the ER and another 2 attached to the toilet (including my 72 MIL). This was roughly 6 hours after consuming seafood from this establishment. The frustrating part is we actually sent one of the 2 dishes back reporting to staff it had a strange odor/taste and was told we weren't familiar with lobster taste (being from NY this is untrue). My MIL was too embarrassed to send hers back so she ate her entire plate and my husband had about 1/4 of his before exchanging it for an alternate dish. As an emergency service provider I fully understand medical incidents like this can happen anywhere, but what prompted this review was way the situation was handled following my reporting. After reporting the incident to management we were met with what felt like an aggressive line of questioning about the members of our medical team and related details. I was told the incident would be escalated to upper management and the team would reach back out, but this never happened, even after a follow-up email. So, it's safe to say after spending a significant amount of money on what was supposed to be a special evening, the entire experience left a very bad taste in our mouths. At the very least, I would have expected some sort of gesture of goodwill or attempt to make the situation right -- even something as simple as a gift card or invitation to return for a better experience. Unfortunately, that never happened. Based on this experience, I would not choose to return and cannot recommend Drake's to others.
