The hospital was build in the 13th century (finished 1286). It consist of a hall church and a…read morehospital-hall. In the hospital they cared for paupers and sick persons. But the living was very hard because of severe rules (like rules in a convent). In 1820 the beds in the hall were removed and small rooms (approx. 6 qm) were built. Today the buildings belong to a residential home for the elderly. But the small rooms in the hall are empty since 1970. They are now used for special events e.g. the artisan market in the Advent season. In the cellar is a restaurant. Normaly there is a long waiting queue in the Advent season, so you should better start the visit early.

The cafetaria is part of the Museum of Modern Art that was built on the ruins of a burnt down…read moremonastery and church parts of which were beautifully integrated in the construction. It offers a limited card with light Mediterranean style lunches at very affordable prices. And this for outstanding quality. There was a notice that some of the staff are handicapped but I didn't notice anything unusual. Only pity is that their white wine list consisted of one Pinot Grigio
