Yes, call me crazy.
After many decades evolving and building my Silicon Valley career whilst living in the city and county of San Francisco, I decided to end the last chapter of my life in Milan, Italy (only because there was a role/job that allowed me to repartriate).
As such, I had to buy a condo or loft and yet again (I have been buying and selling properties in SF since the 1990's, hence, here we go AGAIN!), source vendors to style the place.
One of the vendors I was so lucky to have engaged with is GMD which specialise in particular aspects of home building like: doors, shades, curtains, windows and related security.
I found them in happenstance as I was walking to and fro between the M2 Piola station towards my new place, one day, I stopped by. I asked about shades and curtains and was impressed by the low key vibe of the showroom as well as the demeanour of the owners. Very quiet, subtle, straightforward, (I thought), yet seemed to be efficient.
After confiding with my next door neighbour who had fun hip shades that was to my liking, I spoke to Daniele at GMD, the son of the father and son team, to show him the look, the functional requirements (ability to see from the inside out, while outside peeps should be blackout looking inside), and pricing considerations. We spoke very quickly, efficiently, email, onsite measurements, quote, sign up, downpayment and installation.
Installation was fast, quick and efficient. Daniele and his father performed a very professional work yet reminded me of the old school artisan style of the Italy I knew of my youth. It is rare to find this kind of quality, service and family style sincere work in a big growing city like Milan. In a few hours, my shades were up and they are beautiful.
It was as I envisioned, same as, (if not even BEST), the installation shades I have done in my SF Dogpatch condo. It elicits that Industrial look yet provides a functional and pragmatic feature.
Thank you to Daniele and his Dad for the best service, product and giving me that old school Italian vibe, it reminded me of the way, my family and I used to be.
This is how business, service and quality should be delivered - warm family yet with an EFFICIENT execution, no compromises.
Wish more of Italy would do this, so that we can make this country a strong and relevant first world country again, by means of MERITOLOGY.
