It was pretty cheap for Finland. Still a lot more expensive than in the states, or in some other european countries, but it's Helsinki! Everything's expensive. Still, I found a nice vintage bathing suit for 12 euros, and a summer skirt for 7. That's about 1/10th of what things cost in the department stores, so I'd call it a wonderful bargain, and a fun place to poke around in the afternoon.

My greatest find was Guess jeans that I almost paid over $100 usd at the Guess store, except they didn't have my size, and I got them here in new condition for less than $20 usd. If you are on a cruise and looking for stops in Helsinki, find this on the map. When we went there was a parade for the Ex-President which pretty much closed down the town. All of the antique/collectible shops were CLOSED. Uff is a chain store and I believe there are more than one locations. Good chance they will be open while you are there. Definitely check them out. Akseli is an upscale flea market - people bring their wares in and sell them used for 1-2 week periods. They are all given 2 bookshelves (one with shelves, one with clothes hangers). The shelves and store are neat, orderly, clean, and very upscale. The items offered also tend to be better than what you find at the local low rent kirpputori. For buyers, you'll find great items at good prices. Come Saturday or Monday for best selection. They accept credit cards and there is a small changing room to try on clothes. For sellers, it's a good place to make money off used items. An average week sales for me (mostly childrens toys and clothes) would be around 800e. Be prepared for shrinkage, though, since they don't seem to be doing much about rampant shoplifting. Several times I saw people walk out with item unpaid - or trip the security alarm and the sales clerk just holds her hand out while the person takes out the stolen item from her purse and hands it to the clerk then leaves. That was depressing to see as a seller. Their seller rates are ok - though they will be charging a percentage of sales in November in addition to the weekly rate. For the extra money you'd make over the local swap meet, I think the extra cost is justified. 4 stars for cleanliness, decent customer service, and an upscale way to purchase used items. 1 star less for serious issues for sellers with items disappearing due to shoplifting.

However, there can be finds to be found and I dig the weird vibe. Not big on kid's things (kind of thankful for that), but a lot of vintage-y stuff for the creative at heart. I am not even a little creative, so I probably won't be frequenting the joint. Mom tip: Not stroller friendly, kid friendly, or even kid interesting. If you do want to pop in (and I strongly suggest you do - it's a weird little place), I'd hit it solo or with a kid attached to your person. It feels filled with wonder and history like a museum but cozy and inviting like someone's home. (There is even an adorable dog sleeping peacefully in shop). You will find women's clothing for all occasions and seasons and a wide array of accessories and underpinnings. There's even a men's section, which looked impressive too. Amazing selection aside, the owner is so knowledgeable and kind. She knows the origins of every piece in her shop. I stumbled upon the store by accident and ended up spending hours trying on wedding dresses and evening gowns, learning a lot about vintage clothing history in the process. There is an impressive amount of dead stock items too. I can't wait to return here, it was a really special place.
