I can not speak highly enough about Animal Hospital of Rye. I would recommend them over and over…read moreagain. We drove from Buffalo, NY to get a CT scan for our dog, since the waiting lists in Buffalo, and the prices, were astronomical. From my first phone call with Rye, I knew they were good hearted people who are in animal care for the right reasons. Every person I spoke to on the phone was SO kind, thoughtful, and understanding. It was very easy to get through to schedule, no run around. They were able to schedule us a week out (which was quick compared to what I'd found), but since it was urgent, I was put on a waiting list and they called me back to get me in two days later. I drove down with my dog and stayed overnight in a hotel and then went to rye first thing in the morning. We had a consult with the Dr (who was amazing) and left our dog Rocko for the day for his scans. They called me just over an hour later that he was finished already! He is 12, so sedation scares me, but they did not over sedate him and he was jumping around (and making quite the ruckus for them ) when we came to pick him up. The doctors and staff are AMAZING. They have also sent his reports over to multiple referrals for us, which I know can be time consuming, but have never once made us feel like we were inconveniencing them. The only issue I have with this place, is that every other Vet isn't just like them! THANK YOU to the team at Animal Hospital of Rye. For making a very tough situation, so much easier for us.

The tech lied to me about state requirements for vaccines telling me that more than rabies is required by the state. I believed her and allowed them to give my dog more than I wanted. The result was injury to his gut health that now a few later we are still dealing with. Why work with animals if you don't like them???

Not a single person acknowledged or apologized for the wait. That to me isn't always a deal breaker. With my background I do know it's just the way things go sometimes. It is nice for it to at least be acknowledged, though. Once the vet was finally in the room, I was expressing some of my concerns with my dogs. The vet was not listening to me at all. He was actually talking to the tech over me as I was talking. This was my first time taking my dogs here, so I figured he would be more interested in hearing about them. He couldn't have seemed to care less and seemed eager to get the exam over with so he could continue on with his evening. Then, it was time to get the dogs on the table for their exams. My dogs are anxious in new environments, but never aggressive. They responded how I assume most dogs do... they are a bit squirmy on the table when they are being poked and prodded. The vet had absolutely no patience with them and immediately told me they were too un-cooperative, and they would need "a fully sedated exam," in order for him to "be able to do anything with them." In my experience with other vets, they typically will give you a trazadone or other medication to help calm your animals... not jump straight to a $1,000+ visit by completely putting my big dogs under anesthesia. But again, he had no patience with my dogs. I had also discussed with the front desk over the phone that I wasn't sure about how much blood work I felt was necessary to get. She assured me when I scheduled the appointment that the vet would discuss all of the blood work with me and then I could decide. Fast forward to the appointment, when he has my dog held on the table when he decided to ask me about what blood work I wanted done... while he had the needle in his hand. Definitely a way to make you feel pressured into making a decision and not knowing how much the blood work would cost, either. Needless to say, I was not impressed at all by my experience here. I was disappointed, as this was a vet who was highly recommended by a family member of mine. I have been a nurse for six years and can say this vet had some of the worst bedside manner I have ever experienced.

From our first call to the clinic when we spoke with Laurie in the office to set up our initial wellness consultation to finally meeting the Doctor the process has been excellent. They asked us to download an app that can keep us in contact with their office and remind us of any upcoming appointments as well as ordering of food and medicine this is next level. Our first visit went well and the interaction that the Doctor had with us was great. He wasn't in a hurry, a just wanted to explain everything in detail making some suggestions for us to consider for our boy down the road. After the visit the Doctor called us to make sure everything was good and again he was in no hurry to get off the phone. This has been a great experience so far and we have complete confidence in them. We had a terrible experience with the vet prior to Carlisle Small Animal in Gettysburg, so we were concerned but unnecessarily as it turns out. Thank you Dr. Echenrode for all you do and your passion that you have shown. Lastly, they have just as good of an office staff!!!

My one cat was always terrified of the vet and yet no one mentioned that I could just pay for some gabapentin to give to her before she had to go and save both of us so much stress and trouble. I asked the doctor a lot of questions that I thought were valid such as taking fecal samples for my cats and discussing some digestive issues that my one cat was having and a cough that seemed concerning. My concerns were completely disregarded. Dr Hoefert said it was not necessary to take samples (even though the one cat had been living outside prior to being rescued) and the other cat probably just had "digestive problems, like humans do." I asked if my one cat could have crystals in his urine and that was also disregarded and never tested. I've since found out that my cat had a persistent UTI and also crystals in his urine. He is now being treated, thankfully. Both of my older cats died much too soon, and I truly feel that if I had been going to the right vet, their problems would've been caught quicker and I would've had them longer. I also want to mention that I observed Dr Hoefert being extremely rough with my one elderly cat when she needed a laxative. He shoved this enormous thing up her rear end and was not gentle about it at all. She immediately started vomiting, probably due to the pain. He could've been a lot gentler with her. I have since changed vets and I could not be happier to finally go to a clinic where they care about your pets and they listen to your concerns and they give you excellent advice. I live a block away from Northside and I would never recommend anyone go there. Instead, I prefer to drive further to go to a better vet.
