I had the opportunity to see an English movie with subtitles while in Zurich. Being that I had nothing to do that day, I leaped at the chance, especially when I heard it was Django Unchained. I miss my American blockbuster movies when traveling in Europe.
Here are my notes on the Abaton. First, they have a rather small lobby. At first glance, it doesn't appear small, but the lines getting tickets and the lines entering the theater section nearly abut each other. They do have a nice sitting area to the back of the lobby entrance. This is nice if you're waiting for friends. It would be great if they would let people filter into the theater section once they purchased their ticket instead of making everyone queue up and wait.
Once you enter, be quick about getting any snacks. You do have another chance at intermission. I forgot this occurs here. It's a foreign experience to me. If you have WC needs be really quick about getting to the nearest one. Otherwise, you'll be standing for a long time in line. However, trust there is another one available and run up many flights of stairs like I did. The payoff? No lines.
Overall, the Abaton provided a great cinematic experience. Things could have been done smoother. Also, beware the high ticket prices - 19 CHF. read more
