It's such a shame as myself and my family have been visiting for over 20 years. Sam Cook said "Bring it on home to me ....."…read more Much as I enjoy being in far distant lands, eating and drinking the stuff of travel programs, my heart and mind is always reminding me of places I call home and The Pheasant Inn encapsulates all that that entails. It is the Yin to my travelling Yang. Set into the rolling Cheshire hills in Englands green and pleasant land, is this real slice of coaching Inn in the villlage of Higher Burwardsley* Also close by are Peckforton & Beeston castles should you want to go rampant on the ramparts. With its Sandstone structure, open fires, Oak flooring and leafy beer garden with spectacular views over the Cheshire plain, the Pheasant is a true gem. They even have cobblestones out front and quite often people will roll up here on Horseback and tie the bridle reins to the wall. An Inn (Yes!! they also provide accommodation, see pix) for all seasons. They cater to all tastes and events and my family has used here for every occasion in the book and have yet to find fault but, it is not just a family place, No!! The way it is set out means that you can come here as a large group and pile in to the huge glass conservatory or arrive as a couple and get a table for two in one of the quiet nooks and crannies alongside a fireplace or just come alone and stand alongside the bar and chat with the regulars and meet their Labrador who will be lying at their feet. I have brought my Lab' "Dex" here multiple times, he likes to share a pint of Stout with me. The Pheasant always stocks four real ales (recognised for their well kept quality by CAMRA) plus a choice of mainstream beers and the wine list is always on point. They hold the AA Rossette & feature in the Michelin Good Pub and Egon RonayGuides. Important to me is that they use local produce in their kitchens and the menu is changed daily so look to the specials board at the bar. Even when it is not on the menu, just ask and they will rustle up a plate of thick locally cured Ham with a couple of poached eggs from the farm supported by thick crispy chips (fluffy on the inside) and garden peas. On Sundays I like to go here, fill my tank and then head off with Dex along The Sandstone Trail** or head down the hill to The Ice Cream Farm***. Dex, in tru Chocolate Labrador stylee always hits up the Choc chip. *Just as 'Worcesershire Sauce' is pronounced 'Wooster' in England so 'Burwardsley' is pronounced locally in Cheshire as 'Bosley'. Should you have difficult finding the Pheasant Inn then ask for 'The Pheasant @ Bosley' ** http://www.sandstonetrail.com/ *** http://www.cheshirefarmicecream.co.uk/about-the-ice-cream-farm/ , .

I start with an admission - it was not my idea to visit this hotel, Mrs G sought it out and opined…read morethat it was a the best hotel in Manchester. I was less keen because it was approaching London prices in Manchester where there are good hotels for substantially lower cost. But it was for one night and by booking a way ahead the prices wasn't too outrageous. However the package with prepaid car parking (an extra GBP40 or $50+) seemed absurd so I figured that I would park nearby for less. All my nightmares seemed to come true as we drove up late that evening (about 10pm) long after dark up some back alley into the hotel and parking structure. Why were we arriving so late? Because we called up at 1pm to reserve a table at their restaurant (the River) and found they could not (would not) accommodate us even as I explained that we were guests. I would have cancelled right then and there but I had prepaid so ....... One more negative strike was the off-hand way we were dealt with over the phone and "greeted" when we checked in (i.e. NO greeting, really manager - please train your staff in the basic skills of hospitality!!) It all ended up very different. The room itself, the bed, the bathroom were all 5 star. The location of the hotel was better than I had expected - right on the river and a short walk over the bridge and you were in the center of things. I still predict that you will be more than disappointed as you arrive at the front of the hotel - but once you are inside, you are embraced by the refinement indoors, by a couple of the staff, and by the spaciousness. How good was it? I called the front desk and booked for a second night, requesting the same room, and was lucky to get it at the standard rate of GBP198. Will we be back - yes please. Never done this before - so it MUST be good! However I just hope the manager reads this review and acts on the training of his frontline staff! How about the restaurant - what a disappointment - but that is a separate review... Two thumbs up! Review #105 2019

Poor service with a side of gas lighting. My biggest issue with this place was that the minibar…read morerestocker moved something off the mini bar in my room and somehow it was on my bill. I went to complain half way through my stay and they told me it must have been me because it's on a pressure sensor. Made me feel that I was either been scammed by the hotel or that someone else had access to my room, maybe a previous guest. Both are not good and made me feel very uncomfortable in the hotel. I couldn't get service at the hotel bar for some reason too. I went in for a quick drink before meeting a friend and waited for 20 minutes without service. I then tried to order at the bar and was told it's table service only. Weird. Was I dressed in flip flops without a shirt you might ask? No, chinos with a button down shirt. I also wasn't told about the breakfast arrangements at check in so left the hotel each morning for breakfast. On top of that the "king bed" was 2 thin mattresses pushed together with scratchy sheets. It's a little inconvenient in terms of location so it has to be very good to justify that extra walk. This place fell massively short. Would not stay here again.

Our room was well decorated and was fresh and comfortable. We were shown round when we arrived and given a pack of info relating to the area and stonecroft itself. The room had hot drink facilities and a shower ensuite with free shampoos, body wash, cotton wool etc. There was a TV and docking station, plus alarm clock and radio. The bed was comfortable and had great pillows. We woke to the smell of freshly baked bread. Fabulous! Food is excellent at stonecroft. Vegetarians and vegans are very well catered for,as are those on a gluten free diet. The cooked breakfasts are superb, as are cold breakfasts. I loved the jam choice especially. Nothing was too much trouble at stonecroft, we were treated very well indeed. Although there are more rooms, only 2 are ever let out at once, making it very exclusive at any time. We stayed in the UK for two weeks and visited about 10 hotels and this was the only one where we had a really good sized room. It was huge. We felt like royalty staying there. Beautiful. The only thing to be aware of is they lock the doors at night and if you lose your entry code and can't figure out how to make an international call on a US cellphone, you will have to wait for other guests who are out partying late to open the door for you. Don't ask how I know all of that. :-) Wonderful hotel. Definitely one of the best of our trip.
