Drive up the hill (just up 46th Avenue So)-like you're headed for the Veterans Home. On top of the hill is the Wabun Picnic Area & Disc Golf. It's not far from the bicycle trails! It offers clean bathrooms, beautiful mature trees, good views, nice playground & wading pool for the kiddos, ChargePoint Charging Station for electric vehicles, and disc golf. Yes, it is a walk to Minnehaha Falls (0.5 miles, about an 11 minute walk) but it's well worth it!

I was in the area the other day and decided to take advantage of the nice spring weather. I wasn't…read moreexpecting a $7 day fee to enter, but I decided to consider it a donation to the parks system, fed it my debit card and got a ticket to put on my dash. There were three parking lots to choose from, but I drove all the way down to the third and last one by the park office and playground. Decided to do the approximately six mile loop on the dirt path trails (also used for skiing when there's snow on the ground). It was nice hiking through the various groupings of pine trees. I could still hear the freeway noise, but it was mostly in the background. The prettiest part was definitely at the beginning beside the lake though (but perhaps in other seasons, like fall, it might be even prettier). Some mild elevation change, nothing too challenging by any means. There was also the option to walk on a paved path with many benches if you do need something less strenuous or you aren't hiking. The playground was really cute with relatively new equipment. Lots of climbing options, slides, and one large swing (very comfy to lean back in and admire the lake). There were picnic tables around along with barbecues and trash/recycling bins. There's a dock for fishing off of, and another (at the second parking lot) for canoe/kayak launching (which I'll have to come back and try when I have some free time this summer). There were two port-a-potties available for when the park office isn't open. The park office has many a toilet, all singletons so non-gendered, which was lovely. They were clean and well-stocked. The park office didn't have much going for it from what I could glean, but there was space in the lobby to sit and relax if desired, as well as a large backroom that seemed like it was probably for classes and such. It wasn't very busy while I was there; likely because the weather was predicting a storm, but I lucked out and it never came the two hours I was there. I came across a couple that had their dogs off leash, which the park rules state you're supposed to keep your dogs leashed... People, man.

The road up to this park (Asher) is a bit steep, but not too long. I noticed some tennis and basketball courts on the way in. The parking lot is a bit small (not many spots) if you needed to drive there, but perhaps this park doesn't get a lot of visitors. It was pretty quiet while I was there, which is nice. There's a play structure for the kids close to the parking lot, and further beyond a rudimentary baseball diamond. Personally, I was there to hike around. There was a map that showed the many trails available. All of them are unpaved and very winding, and I couldn't actually find them under all the snowpack. So I just kind of wandered the landscape and enjoyed the trees and lake for an hour. Nothing too strenuous, but there was some change in elevation. No formalized bathroom facilities that I saw, but they had a port-a-potty with hand sanitizer in it, so that was plenty sufficient for my needs.

Additionally, there have the cutest tree nursery where you can do so much fun stuff. They also have state-of-the-art biking trails! Though I haven't been on them for biking, my sneak peek was enough to make me vow to do it next time! Plenty of parking space too! Only downside to this park is there are no kid-friendly toilets. There's only one porta-potty which leaves a lot to be desired. Otherwise, great experiences all-around!

The park is beautiful. It has plenty of space for children to ride their bikes, rollerblade, and there's even a playground for the little ones. There's a nice beach area where guests can splash around in the water and rent kayaks and paddle boards. Towards the front of the park, there is a restaurant dining area, and I was a little bit surprised to see that they even serve some alcohol beverages. The park is kept very clean, easy to read signs and plenty of picnic areas to barbecue and spend the day with your family at. I wish we had more time to spend an entire afternoon here because the weather was perfect and it's a great way to get the family outside.

Because it is such a large park with a playground, it doesn't feel crowded though! There is street parking and an overflow lot as well. This place has a playground, clean indoor bathrooms, spots for fishing, food and drinks(including ice cream!) My favorite part was the fire pit! There are so many picnic tables and other pavilions! It is a fantastic area for kids. With playgrounds, a splash pad, and fishing allowed by the DNR it is a great place for first-time fishing experiences. The lake has crappies, bluegill, walleye, and largemouth bass. It is also ice-skating available in the winter months. The landscaping is beautiful. They have flower gardens and an awesome boardwalk that lights up at night. It's a stunning sight. The fun continues with a beach that has lifeguards on duty from 1 PM - 7 PM during the season in addition to your required supervision. The concession stand and restrooms are available from Memorial Day to October. a beach. Planning a party? The picnic shelters are available to rent for an affordable cost. You can rent a time block of 9 AM - 3 PM or 4 PM - 10 PM. Speaking of renting.. paddle boats and paddle boards are also available for 30 minutes at a time. There are many monuments around the park to teach about the brick-making in Chaska and the history of the local fire firefighters. It is so important to see brave heroes being memorialized and remembered here.
