I has been handling my family law case on my own for two years. For the last two hearings my father…read moredecided to pay a retainer for this lawyer that he had years previously for family members for criminal law minor in fractions. Sent my car file 4/27/2021 He confirmed that he received it opened it & said my evidence book "is a lot". He barely reached out. I did all the legwork for him prior to hiring. But he got paid to sit in a continuance hearing I had arranged. I got really nervous when two days before the final hearing he JUST started to look at my case while at home potty training his son. Then I got super nervous when the day before he tells me he can't open up the evidence files even though he already confirm back in April he could & it was "a lot " So I sent it to him every format I could & I heard nothing until 3 hours before the final hearing. Asking me to do 11 hours of work in 2 & get it to his assistant an hour prior to the trial. The Saturday b4 the trial I just did the work for him & emailed him the evidence pieces for the exceptions, where in evidence book, and what to say for each. While the Zoom Trial was going on, he said one piece of correction I said to save for the end, & then proceeded to look at his cell phone under his desk the entire hearing. The judge who was already mad with the father, waited for Mr. Rafuse to begin, but again cell phone, no concentration, & the judge assumed he STILL wasn't ready,the judge said " there will be no further continuances, I will take what I have I will try to find Miss Matthews his evidence book & I will go over what I have here again there will be no more continuances" RAFUSE HAD EVERYTHING HE NEEDED & I DID THE WORK FOR HIM! Instead of listening or even looking up from his phone he just said "Thank you for your time your honor." The judge was so angry by his behavior he terminated the zoom hearing before I got a chance to speak. On the day the final order came out, I was unaware as when you have an attorney in Duval all emails etc go to the attorney, he said "No I haven't gotten anything in yet." 2 hours later I have my daughters father showing papers he refused to show me, so I said I'm taking her to her doctors appointment. This turned ugly, him and his gf trying to run us off the road my calling 911, NO WARNING FROM RAFUSE! I called Otto Rafuse 16 times to his cell, 8 times to his office, text messages, emails, NO RESPONSE He got a nasty yet professional email some thing that I have learned to do over the years in corporate America, and then terminated and dismissed him as my attorney. As it states I needed to terminate him to dismiss him, ask for a itemized statement of the retainer, and can you believe with how little he actually did with my case he's still trying to say I owe him an additional $250 before I will get my case file. Seriously never ever ever use this attorney. His main concern is only criminal law and I don't know what he's gotten himself into to have to take on family law but to him losing a child in a case where I should have one 100% but he was too busy checking on his murder case because I guess he believes is more important. I know there's lots of jokes about attorneys, but as a man I find his moral judgment pitiful, & as a father with a young child, what kind of monster thinks murders should be being handled DURING a THE FINAL HEARING? Whatever you do, do NOT use him for family law!!

I provided the requested information, explained my situation. The information was passed onto a paralegal. I spoke with her on the phone and provided all my information and explained the situation and that I was requesting a TRO. She set me up with a Zoom consultation for $250. I was on the call for 5 minutes when I was asked if he had harmed me, or threatened to harm me in the last 6 months. This is a requirement for the TRO. Since it was over 6 months since the last incident, she told me the firm could not help. She then asked if I had any other questions as the consult was scheduled for 60 minutes and we had only used 8 minutes. I requested a pro-rated return of my consult fee as the call lasted less than 10 minutes. I also sent an email to Stephanie Sussman asking for a refund. I was clear in every conversation, that I was trying to obtain a TRO. If harm, or threat of harm within 6 months, is a requirement, that question should have been asked before a consult is scheduled. I find it unprofessional and I feel like I was scammed out of money
