I visited the salon yesterday for the first time for a balayage and cut with Kara and her assistant Ryan. The complex the salon was in had a ton of parking out front (which coming from LA is something I always pay attention to lol). As soon as you walk in, the first thing I noticed was the decor and waiting area. They have a fridge full of drinks and a cute little snack area. The decor was amazing - White with gold accents and fresh plants everywhere. It felt modern, understated but clearly well thought out. As a customer, when you're first walking into (and later spending hours) at a salon it's nice to feel comfortable and at ease - usually you can sense the type of energy (I.e. stressed vs relaxed) radiating off staff and that contributes to how you might be feeling while there. The whole time I was at Kindred I felt that sort of relaxed, comfortable (but always professional) ambiance from the all stylists and that was really refreshing. Kara was great to work with throughout the scheduling process and appointment. She schedules via text or follow ups in the salon. I had sent her a couple pictures of cuts and colors I liked and after talking through it in the salon she executed it perfectly. I spent about 2.5 hours there for my cut and color and enjoyed chatting with Kara and Ryan. Kara even mentioned that if I needed to get some work done in future appointments I could bring in my laptop and use their WiFi while I process, which is amazing! Chloe is phenomenal. I came to her after getting my hair highlighted a few weeks ago at a different new salon and not loving the result. Despite me not being able to pinpoint exactly what was off, she worked her magic and in short order my highlights look better than they ever have before. I have to say That this place is a great to get your hair done... IF YOU HAVE LIGHT HAIR. If you do NOT have blonde hair or anything somewhat light hair color. I suggest find another place that does. If you look at the pictures they look great, most of the customers are blonde haired. Which is not a bad thing, they do a GREAT job on them! BUT if I'm being honest it does not look the same on darker hair. Blending isn't as great, coloring as well. I've been here three times, helped by 3 different hair stylist. First time was great with Lindsey since it was my first time getting my hair professionally done, but the rest where not so great. Charging over $350 for a balayage with just streaks unblended. You may ask yourself, why did She go back, well First off, they are close to my home and second, I was lazy. All were my fault. But in hindsight. I realized this place needs to up there game when working with darker hair color, Because there are other salons that are Great with darker hair. IF you do decide to come here and have darker hair, I would say just ask for Lindsey. Overall, great place if you have light hair, but if you have dark hair look elsewhere or just ask if they have experience with darker colored hair. So not be afraid to ask:) and look at there work as well. read more

I was excited to have found a good salon in OC and have gone a few times but have been frustrated with my hair services at Kindred unfortunately. I dislike writing negative reviews but when it's bad and there's thousands of dollars involved I feel it's helpful for others to know and wish I did. Especially after spending $300+ for a partial, tipping 20% each time. Ryan initially colored my hair and did a good job but I found it confusing she charged me $30 for a quick bang trim during my color. It's always been complimentary my whole life in different states so I was really caught off guard but paid it anyway. I was told it's because it was half the cost of a haircut. I asked my other Hollywood stylist about this and he was shocked. There is no receptionist so communication can be frustrating and delayed depending on the stylist. I wouldn't hear responses from her about scheduling up to weeks at a time for three different sessions, which felt inconsiderate. I finally decided to try someone else there and when the first stylist finally responded to my question about availability (since it was taking weeks for her just to confirm a date) and I let her know I booked with someone else there since I needed to get in, I never got a response. Unfortunately this next experience with Kara actually affected the health of my hair drastically. It would've been good to know I was triple booked as I would've gone with someone else (I've been the only client in my decades of color appointments so I was surprised). I thought fine, but then I sat for over an hour and half being processed, and worried how damaged my hair was getting let alone was barely checked on by her assistant while she was tending to two other clients. I've been getting my hair highlighted for 20+ years by dozens of stylists and have never processed for more than 30-40 min max, especially when going darker than usual. I tried to brush it off and still tipped 20% but I had so much breakage in the weeks after, something that never happens even though I color my hair every few months, I'm really familiar with the process. Even a couple months later, I'm seeing how much damage has been done as hairs start to grow back. I have so many, even chunks, of baby hairs from breakage and flyaways, especially around my hairline and top of my head. It also looks receded on my hairline. My hair is so much less full and dry than usual that it's affected how I feel. The only other time was when I had hair loss from postpartum after my pregnancy and it took a long time for the hair to grow back. But to have it happen when you pay a lot of money and trust a stylist it's very frustrating. I reached out but didn't hear back (the stylist was sick). She had posted a story to IG she had gotten Covid, less than 24 hours after she did my hair for 5 hours. I'm not always on IG so if I didn't check it that day, I would've had no idea I could've caught it since she never reached out personally (other places will send an exposure notification). That was frustrating as well as it would've been a simple gesture to get a text or email. When I reached out again after a couple months when it was getting really noticeable, I did get a very apologetic and empathetic response and part compensation which I did appreciate. But it's frustrating as it'll take a long time to restore my hair back. Overall the girls were nice and I'm sure talented but there's definitely a lot of things lacking that could've otherwise made it a more successful business in terms of ethics and quality. With so many great salons in the area it's harder to overlook. It looks like someone else also had a very similar experience there according to reviews. read more

I was recommended by a gf of mine (that is extremely picky about her hair) after I got cocky and thought I could do my own hair and failed miserably (see picture below.) I almost cancelled Christmas BUT I scheduled with K ara and she fixed it BEAUTIFULLY, got it done in half the time I expected and it turned out so good; I will never let anyone other salon do my hair again!! Definitely do not come here if you are Asian or have any type of dark hair. I have naturally dark brunette hair and hadn't colored it in almost 10 years before coming to kindred, so it was entirely virgin. 4 hours and $500 later I walk out chunky streaks of platinum blond when I clearly stated that I wanted a natural look, one or 2 shades lighter at most. They didn't discuss what was happening at all during the process, so I was shocked at the end when they finished and my hair and it was in the condition that it was in. They also didn't do any type of conditioning treatment so my hair is completely fried now. They did promise me a take home olaplex treatment, which they forgot to give me. When I finally washed my hair at home I could barely get a comb through it without all my hair breaking off - that's how damaged it is. The best part - the right side of my head is much blonder than the left side because she processed the right side first, so it had bleach twice as long as the left side. As a professional hair stylist who teaches classes in bayalage and charges an arm and a leg wouldn't you know to plan for something like that? Giving 2 stars instead of 1 because they were gracious about seeing me back (although her assistant was the one to do all the work, she didn't speak to me at all) to tone my hair down more and give me the olaplex take home which they initially forgot, but sadly I'm still way too blonde and my hair is still fried. read more

I go to Lindsey for my cut and color. I've tried to go blonde with many other colorists before, and I was never fully satisfied until I tried Lindsey. She is amazing, and you really get your money's worth. You get the works with her (great cut, color, product, styling, and healthy hair). The salon is super cute, and always clean. I may be against the grain here, but I do NOT recommend this salon. I had a horrible experience and will never return here again, nor give my money to this salon. Not only was I lied to by the stylist via text, but if she is going to quote something that is either accurate or not, at least the pricing on your website should reflect what she states the pricing would be by ALL stylists. I told her what I wanted, she told me a price and I agreed. After a few appointments with her, I feel as though she was always trying to add more services onto the appointment for more money in her pocket, even though I told her what I wanted and how much I wanted to spend. Even though she texted me her pricing which were "set prices", after multiple appointments she then states that she is now hourly and to go somewhere else. Not only was this unprofessional, but she was not honest. I will take my money elsewhere and do no recommend. read more
